I would amend the promotion proposal to the following. The top 3 from each class are automatically promoted. Any guard that places in the top 5 two consecutive years for open would be promoted to world. Any guard that places in the top 10 two consecutive years for A would be promoted to open. I like the idea of the appeal process for guards that experience large membership turnover. I also like that WGI took a more aggressive stance on mid season promotions this past year to make sure guards were in the correct classes.

Last years proposals were much more fun....the elimination of all rules for world class (with the exception of fire and live animals).....unlimited membership for world class guards.....this years proposals seem boring in comparison.

I would have wording that mentions education and creativity all while maintaining the traditions of colorugard (the manipulation of standard equipment).

If the move down is not correct WGI will bump them back up next year....I think it was proven this year that the new system of bumping during the season and not based on the previous year was a positive improvement.

The funny thing is that while it was happening I thought Onyx was being really rude.....and then I was looking at some old photos of retreat and realized that not so long ago it was the norm for all guards to stand at attention.
I think what made people uncomfortable with Onyx at retreat was not that they were at attention....it was the smug disgusted looks on their faces.

I fully admit that I am part of the US Sonnor fan club!!!!

I once spoke to a highly recognized technician who explained technique in the following manner. Good technique is when all members are uniform. If a guard dips different or catches different than your definition of good technique it does not make it bad technique.

Onyx made much more sense once I put on my 3D glasses.....

Scholastic World is always super competitive....more so than any other class. The guards in this class are in this class for a reason. They are the most talented and have the best design teams in the business. Many of the guards in this class have been consistent finalists for over 25 years.
Scholastic World also always seems to have a surprise every year.....just because you are ranked out of finals in March does not mean anything at this point of the game. Guards like Kennesaw Mountain a few years ago were so far out of finals that no one thought twice about them....and then in Dayton they were in the upper half of finals.

Can someone please provide a review that tells us what people are actually performing......instead of just so and so is great and so and so is going to win WGI.

I agree with Dugg! I would much rather see a quad or a five caught solid with good free hands and solid technique than a higher toss that is not properly executed.

batteries included!
a few groups are using battery powered lights and several are considering the idea.it should be interesting to see how clever, creative and smart our designers can be.
Blessed Sac A uses them to create some really cool effects!

No...what I meant was that in a high school gym it may take a few reads. In the UD arena it will read just fine.

I had the pleasure of viewing the first show of the 2011 Blessed Sacrament. The show is based on the experimental Black Box theater. Set on four individual square black floors the show opens with a very unique and creative movement sequence that includes electrical cords as if to symbolize plugging into your creative outlet. Sac is marching 38 performers....the show is very densely staged with many risky sequences throughout. One particular section features 30 performers on weapon tossing in a very confined space. This is a show that will definitely take several reads to fully appreciate all that is happening on the floor. I can't wait to see where the show goes as the season progresses.
Thank you Blessed Sacrament for continuing to push the creative envelope year after year!

I also found another new i-phone app that is really cool. Check out rifle toss....a fun little game for all of us guard folks...I can't put it down.

Not sure which model of King sabre you are using, however I have had mine for over 9 years and spin it pretty much daily. It has never shown any signs of looseness or a rattle.

My guard has used these non wood rifles for the last two years. We have not had any issues with them being any more slippery than a wooden rifle. After years of replacing rifles on a regular basis it has been great to be able to use our budget for other items that we could not afford in the past.
I would encourage any program with beginner to intermediate weapon skills to use these rifles.

In Boston groups like St Ann's start them as young as 4 years old!!

I couldn't agree more.....30 people barely fit on the floor. The only way I can see this working is if not all members are performing at once....or if the 10 additional members never touch equipment.

The issue is that this is not a casting for an entertainer....it is a job posting for a colorguard educator. I would never supply a headshot on an application for a teaching position....I would also never apply for a position in a school that allows open discrimination.

I would have to agree with Dugg on the best Emerald shows.
1992 Amazing Grace - I just watched this the other day and feel it would still hold up in today's world class.
1994 The Four Sections - Simplay amazing staging and drill.
1999 The Great Divide - Stunning....truly one of the best written and performed shows ever.
I would also add 1998 to the list.....intellectual....interpretive and oh so musical.

For most of this week we have had partial judging panels with some judging scoring captions that they do not specialize in.....until we get full panels the scores are not relevant. I feel that once a full panel is in effect the Blue Stars will jump in score and ranking.
