Yes in its entirety.   The allegations with 5 of them were employees working in the office - not members of the corps.  3 made claims from when they were marching members in the early 1980's, and the 9th isn't identified.

I'm not excusing any of the behavior.  Just being clear that it was more of a workplace sexual harassment issue, and not a case of young children being left alone with a predator in situations like showers or exam rooms.  That comparison is not accurate.

It’s a situation where a man in power exerts his power over those below him.

I’d say there are certainly parallels.

  2. Sorry to harp on this, but the silence from Allentown is deafening to me.

    Three.  ****ing.  Months.

Regardless of how valid they perceive these allegations to be, the BoD had three months to ready a response.  I simply cannot fathom that the legal advice was "Let's just wait and see what the reaction is" in this day and age.  You need not have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night to know that simply trying to wait this out was NOT the right strategy.

They're not defending the report.  They're not refuting the report.

No suspension.  No "put on paid leave".

    Nothing.

    Pure incompetence.

I think very high.. In fact, I think there is a good chance that The Cadets do not weather this storm at all for 2018.. and possibly forever.

I am an absolute believer in due process. Nobody is guilty of a crime unless they admit their crime, or are found guilty by a jury of their peers. If this ends up there (which I will be highly surprised if it does not), then whatever the outcome is.. so be it.

    That said...

If I am a parent with a kid in this corps right now.. with this current corps leadership.. and I am talking from the YEA board all the way down the chain.. there is NO WAY in a million years I let MY kid anywhere NEAR this corps. I think they will pretty quickish lose any and all members under the age of 18. If my kid is over 18, and I am funding their drum corps career... and let's face it, a LOT of mm's use the trusty old First National Bank of Mom and Dad... again, I wouldn't let my kids near this corps. If I am an advertiser, I want NOTHING to do with YEA, The Cadets or USSBA. If I am a sponsor with a worldwide brand recognition, say.. I dunno... YAMAHA... again, I want nothing to do with this corps. Once this corps loses sponsors.. it's game over.

Yeah.... it's quite possible George Hopkins just financially crippled (and therefore, killed) The Cadets.

YEA is in a tough spot no doubt. Probably wanting to do the right thing but being held back by several factors. Lawyers for one being the biggest. Secondly they are probably trying to get advice from some of the biggest names in the industry that can help advise them on how to get out in front of this correctly. One misstep could be tragic. I feel for them.

    I don't.

They've known since January that this was coming.  If you can't formulate a response in three months, you obviously don't have a grasp on the seriousness of the situation.  Either that or they're content to turn a blind eye.  It's clear that YEA is Hopkins and Hopkins is YEA.  Their BOD is nothing more than a figure head put in place to simply look official.

ETA: There is no getting in front of this for them now.  It's strictly damage control from here on out and seeing what organizations under the umbrella get taken down with them.

I won'g go so far as to say Cadets are done or YEA are done. Hopkins no doubt is done with the Cadets and YEA IMHO. No way can the organization let him stay on.

YEA and The Cadets have to get out on front of this and be aggressive. Start with firing Hopkins and appointing a independent counsel to investigate everyone top to bottom within the organization and let the chips fall where they may. Gaining the parents and public trust in the organization starting NOW will depend on the long term survival of the organization. Its going to take some short term hits. If the investigation finds that the allegations are unfounded and or that No one at YEA or The Cadets were aware of the allegations then as they say..the show can go on.

They’ve had at least 3 months to get out in front of this.

That they’ve done nothing is not a good sign for YEA.

    What's in a name?

Why is the name such a big deal anyway? That's less important than how they execute/design their show anyways.

Generally, I'd agree with you.  But when these titles get long winded, it has a tendency to box the concept in because it's more specific than say... "Machine", or "Tilt".  It can set expectations from both an audience and adjudicating perspective.

    IMO, of course.

Hey that's what you get when you want the "uniform" to be modernized.

Actually, I was with you in wanting to see an update like JonWoody (I think) had as his avatar a while back.

But yeah... the traditional uniform wouldn't lend itself to this theme.  I'm not really sure I see that this one does, either.  But the staff seemed a bit muddled in trying to convey exactly how the theme would be portrayed, so we'll see if this look ties things together more on the field when all is said and done.

The Slenderman fingers are creepy af though.

I've also heard from on site sources that SOS (ironic isn't that) is but a cover story to keep the DCP and DCA neigh-saying folk busy in the off season less their negative skill set gets rusty. This thread is meeting that challenge.

I'm hoping this was meant as a joke.

The thought of Hopkins and the Cadets' staff engaged in some sort of deep-state, false-flag attempt at throwing DCPers off the scent of a drum corps show is ridiculous, even by GH's standards.

what are your sources for these generalizations or are you making conjectures? Do you have facts and figures or just rumors and hear say?  Cadets used a very different method of auditions for them this year including video. January and after will tell.

Crown is still to be considered the current contemporary standard of the East until proven on the field otherwise.

One season by an upstart is not the definition of a legacy no matter how much bitter baggage you carry.

We just hosted one of the Cadet camps and their staff mentioned to us about how they will get an influx of brass auditionees after the first round or two of Crown cuts.  But that's just the nature of the beast.  Crown has been more consistent from a placement standpoint and much more consistent from a brass perspective.  Most brass players are going to want to try their luck there first.

It's not a dig.  Things are always in flux and it's just the way things are currently.  Hoping Cadets quickly turn back into being the 'it' corps for the East.

I'm still debating yes or no on this one. In general, I'm for this idea but I don't like this specific implementation of it. As you said, the judge's job is to rank and rate the performances. The first thing judges have to do, basically their primary goal, is to make sure the best corps wins their caption, period. The ordinal system keeps that intact. The rating part has always been something I've had an issue with through the years. First off is how the score itself changes throughout the season. Every season starts with the 1st place corps starting around 70-75 and ending the season between 97-100. The first corps to break 90 is around the San Antonio regional and the first to break 95 is around Allentown. It's pretty formulaic really. The other issue I have is the fact that the caption numbers matter but don't at the same time. By that I mean, getting a 20 in a caption doesn't necessarily mean you had a perfect caption. Let's say that the second place corps had a 19.8 so it just means you were 0.2 pts or more better than that second place corps. You got a "perfect score" just because of number management, not because you necessarily had a perfect performance. Obviously judge training tries to combat getting in that situation in the first place but sometimes it just can't get avoided.

Just for arguments sake, let's say it's a really good year in guard where the 12th place corps is performing at the level to receive a 19.3 or so. But due to the fact that they are the 12th place corps in guard, they can't possibly get a 19.3 and instead will go down to a 18.5 or so just to make room for the other corps. That 18.5 helps to come up with a score sure, but it's artificially low compared to their actual performance level. From a competitive aspect, all we care about is they are in 12th in guard. From an educational aspect, we care we are scoring a 19.3.

I would like ordinals to take over as the primary competitive score but corps still receive scores from each judge, however each corps can only see their own specific scores.

Hop should've commissioned you to make the argument.  This at least makes a little more sense.
