  1. From the Holy Name Cadets history website (www.theholynamecadets.org) posted JUNE 24, 2009

I have a little story I’d like to share. Last year in Bloomington at the DCI Compeitions, I happened to be outside the stadium as the ageouts from all the DCI corps were assembling by their entry gate for the ceremony that was about to be held to honor them. Something immediately drew my attention. Most of the members of the various corps were clustered together; Cavaliers here, Blue Devils there,..same for Phantom, Blue Coats…in fact, it was that way for almost every corps, with one exception: The Cadets and Crown were in a mixed cluster, all intermingled; laughing, talking, exchanging cell phone numbers... It kind of blew my mind. Not that corps-to-corps friendships are all that unusual, nor is staying in a tight group with other members of your corps who you had just spent some very important years of your life with, but I thought that the interaction I was observing between the Cadets and Crown was kind of special. If you recall, at the beginning of the 2008 season the Cadets were beating Crown pretty regularly, then the tide turned and Crown took the lead right up to and including the championships. Both corps left it on the field however. I was truly impressed. This year, once again, both corps are at each other on the field , but I’m told, and I hope I was given good information (which I believe I was) that both corps are still leaving it on the field, and that they respect and sincerely like each other both as corps and as individuals. When you go on DCP it’s very easy to get just the opposite idea. Some (repeat some...not all) of the fans, and parents, and alumni. on both sides of the fence, understandably are very partisan in their comments, sometimes with an anti-the-other- corps bite to them. I’m a Cadet. Alumnus. Of course my loyalty and support is 100% maroon. But like our 2008 and 2009 Holy Name Cadets, I have nothing but respect and admiration for Crown. I believe most Cadets and Cadet Alumni feel that way. I hope they know that. FHNSAB…

    :worthy: Thanks for posting this!

  2. Root Beer Floats.

My wife, daughter and I served RB floats for Crown after the Warrenton show. A big hit! Since we live not too far we brought in what we needed and packed it out again so we didn't put much of a burden on the food truck. The parking attendants let us park close to the corps so we could deliver our almost 6 gallons of ice cream and 20+ 2 liter bottles of root beer.

Thank goodness our local Safeway sells dry ice or we would have had vanilla soup.

But as other posters mentioned, call the corps ahead of time and coordinate with the food manager to make sure you're not conflicting with their plans.

  4. I might disagree on bit on this, in that I don't see Crown beating the Cadets again this year. But who really knows. Time will tell.

...and down the stretch they come... Garfield coming up on the outside…Crown with a late surge… it’s going to be a photo finish!

    Time will tell... :offtopic:

  5. Almost all members of Rhythm X are from DCI lines.

    ...

Rhythm X's show was called " Behind the Velvet Rope" and was about the lifestyles of celebrities.

There's a short video on the WGI website about Rhythm X's show and how they adapted the show for the championships, including adding over 120 people standing behind the velvet rope.

  6. EXCELLENT news!!!

Link to article on Crossmen website.

Look for more information about the CAA's Member Sponsorship Program to be posted later today on www.crossmenalumni.net.

    :)

I also noticed in the press releases they are considering running shuttles from Houston, which will help with the costs of flying from the east coast to the weekend camps.

All good signs that they want the continuity of the vets!

  7. I've had mixed feelings about the announcement. While on one hand, I hope this change will help the Crossmen. I do business in San Antonio, and it's an area that is growing, and fast. I hope that Mr. Chambers and his staff will be able to bring the XMen back to the ranks of finalists.

I worry about the vets. The reality is that many/most were able to drive to the weekend rehearsal camps when they were on the east coast. I wonder if anyone has stats on the ratio of members who drove versus flew to weekend camps in NJ this past season? The vets (and alum) provide the continuity, including the intangibles of what it means to be a member of the Crossmen. I wonder what the retention rate will be.

We may see two eras of the Crossmen, with yesterday's announcement being the dividing point. I hope many of the traditions that make up the Crossmen will follow them to Texas. I hope we don't end up with a Corps that only has its name in common with the pre-2007 Crossmen.

    Respectfully,

  8. Cool Logistically:

How well the City of Madison organized transportation to and from the Alliant Centre. I was amazed at how efficiently they moved people.

The bus driver told us they do the shuttle busses to the Alliant Energy Center for the Badger games, so they have a good system that's well tested. When I got onto the line after the finals I thought it would take about an hour to get to a bus from behind the apartment building, but within 10 minutes I was on a bus.

Our driver was cool, making announcements on the PA to remind us to take our personal belongings -- purses, backpack, children, etc. He kept it light while we made our way to Alliant. A very good representative for the City of Madison.
