  1. I voted other. IMO, I didn't really like Pioneer.

Just curious, do you not like the whole uni or is it the hats. I personally loved their look when they had the current unis and the aussie style hats. I am not a big fan of it now though either.

  2. Corps "mom" to Corps Mom.. let me just say (and this is in NO WAY my attempt to make excuses for Trey -- I think that's his name -- and his comments to you), please don't let this change your impression of volunteering with drum corps.

99% of the kids on the field really don't ever see the things we (especially those of us on cook crew) do to make sure that their day is seamless. All they see is that they wake up, stumble outside, there's food on the plate.. they go practice.. come back.. there's food on the plate.. they go practice, perform.. come back.. there's food on the plate. They don't (and probably don't NEED to) see that the cooks are typically first up, last down on tour. They just need to know there's food on their plate when they need to refuel to support the activity they're putting their bodies through.

No one who has ever volunteered will EVER doubt the hard work you did.. we all do.. we've all been there. Seems when you're at your most exhausted.. scraping the bottom of the barrel of inspiration to keep going, some sweet kid comes along randomly and gives you a hug or a big genuine toothy-grinned thank you for something as simple as a cheese stick. Then all the hard stuff disappears. I don't doubt that Trey and every other kid who walked through your food line fully and thoroughly appreciated every morsel of food -- even if they didn't like everything you served.. but here's the part that -- if you weren't there to witness -- it's easy to miss from their perspective.

While you were on tour, those kids got three squares and a snack most days.. and even you mentioned there were times when the meals served while you were there weren't "ideal."

Now imagine you're a marathon runner. Every day you have to train as hard as you can for 8 - 10hrs a day.. in the hot sun.. in the humidity... the rain.. the wind.. keep training.. keep pushing..

If you miss even ONE full, balanced meal you feel it in the most awful way. Your body gets panicky. Your blood pressure goes wacky. Your systems start to perform at lower than their peak capacity.. and when you're training for that marathon, you need to be and stay at peak capacity. If you miss more than one full, balanced meal over the course of your intense training, your body responds more aggressively and you can experience all kinds of extreme symptoms.. even requiring hospitalization.

When we ask these kids to go out and practice for 4 and 5hr blocks while they're on tour without giving them the opportunity to fill themselves with some level of proper nutrition, these are the things they experience. And being asked to do it even just a few times -- because of the extreme response your body has to it -- that tends to be the prevailing memory of the overall experience.

I know YOU did your job.. and you obviously did it well.. but you couldn't be there the whole time. If something like these reports was happening -- even infrequently -- it can't go unaddressed. Please don't feel it's a personal affront to you. You couldn't be there the whole time. This is a larger issue.

I promise you.. PROMISE YOU you were and are appreciated for the work you did this summer.

Totally agree, from experience I have worked with corps that one member will tell you that they didn't get fed well, while another member will tell you that some of the best food (and largest quantities of food) they had in their lives were while on tour. So while a some may not appreciate there are others that do, you cannot please them all. And sadly enough, we all remember the bad times and good times more than the normal times, having food for them was the normal times that kids will probably not fully remember, yet they will remember the times they did not have food. So as Steff said, even though they may not say it to you, you were and are appreciated and don't let this ruin your feelings about Drum Corps.

  3. How is that a strange rule? This is a rule at my corps too, but it's generally accepted as common sense. Not to mention it's rude..

I used to feel the same until I worked with a drum corps who encouraged their kids to go out and purchase merchandise from other corps. The director told the kids that corps rely on the sale of their merchandise to help pay for things and that they need to support all corps not just their own. I totally changed my opinion and thought it was very noble of that director to encourage that attitude.

  4. Once again: this is a discussion forum. The purpose is for people to share their opinions. Within the rules, everyone has the right to express their opinion as many times as they want to. If you don't like it, don't read it, but you're starting to remind me of the kid that would stand by the drinking fountain and try to keep everyone from drinking more than three seconds.

Hang on a second Dave, my original post to all of this was to the person wondering why everyone was getting ticked off for posting his or her opinions. I do not have any problems with anyone posting opinions, what I have a problem with is people posting time and time again like they are the only ones correct and after anyone else post their opinions, these same people get on here and tell that person why they are wrong (NUMEROUS TIMES) and then wonder why some people are getting ticked off at them. That is all, case closed. I am really not listening to myself by posting this and to keep it going, just proves my point.

  5. That's not necessarily true...I said many times that I disliked the 1998 Phantom Regiment show...back in the days of RAMD. I said it quite often...did that make me a basher of my own corps?

I don't think so. I just really disliked their production that year.

What about the opposite? What about someone that gets on here with post after post about how great a show is? What does that become then?

Did you HAVE to say it so many times? Why? That is my point. I can understand stating you hate a show once or maybe twice, but numerous times. Do you like to read your own writting or something? Not to be mean but come on. And yes you may not be bashing your own corps, but you were bashing that show if you stated it numerous times.

And the opposite is a problem too, I will not deny that. But does the opposite hurt the kids that worked hard on that show, no I don't think so, so most of the time it is overlooked. I am not saying that is right, but you usually do not tick a lot of people off if you state numerous times that you love something.

  6. You know what I'm getting sick of? People getting ###### off because I don't like the Cadets show. See, right there, after stating that, 95% of DCP is going to say I'm a Cadet's basher and tell me to get over it. What the #### is wrong with you people? No where in any rule book does it say I have to enjoy every show put on the field. Also no where does it say I should just say, "Well, they're gonna keep doing it... oh well." I mean, what kind of pissy attitude is that? Oh, and I shudder to think that being a person that dislikes narration is a minority. I've said it once I'll say it again: Narration sounds BAD. It's a really simple concept.

So you know what? Sod off. You can love the Cadets show all you want. I don't. Quite frankly, I hate it. So you can take your "fed up" and your "you're just a troll" and shove it. I don't really give a flying rip if you're sick of hearing bad things about the Cadets show. That should be a clue: some of us don't like what they are doing. Again, you would have everyone just enjoy WHATEVER is put on the field. I mean, good thing the film industry isn't that way... to think I should sit back and enjoy a movie like... Resident Evil. *shudder* Same concept - I don't like the movie, I don't like the Cadets show. Why should I just "accept" either?

I'm sick and tired of all this bashing going on against people that don't like the Cadets show. <**>

From my point of view, I do not think you are a basher for not liking the show, that is fine. I for one love the show this year and that is my opinion.

What I am getting tired of and getting ticked off about, is the same post over and over about hating the Cadets show. That is the major problem and each post seems to be a lot of the same people saying it.

I am not aiming this at you, I just choose to use your post as a reference. When someone gets on here with post after post about hating the show, then that becomes bashing. (I am not saying you are doing this)

This goes out to all of the haters on here, if you do not like the show, fine, post that you do not like the show, but please keep it to a minimum, one or two post is ok, more then that are you are just out to tick people off.
