  1. This thread is funny......especially coming from a guy that has an avatar of the ONE corps whose best and most exciting moment this year is created by a synthesizer and not actual musicians.

Don't like ballet? Blame Cadets 87.

Don't like Neon colors? Blame the 80's

Don't like Trampolines? Ok you got us there. (didn't Star use them though?)

Don't like laying on the ground? I guess you hate Bridgemen

Change is good HockeyDad SAME is bad Same is boring Same is why wives cheat on their husbands Same is what keeps Pioneer in 22nd

You're right about the Bluecoats this year, and there are many other corps who are doing similar things to Crown as well. Just because they're doing stuff I don't like doesn't mean I'll ever stop being a fan. All the corps, including Crown, have great moments in their shows...which makes the synthesized stuff even more distracting. You're also correct in that corps have done goofy stuff going all the way back to the 70's and 80's. However, Crown has taken it to a whole new level and just happens to be leading the way right now.

  2. A couple quick follow up comments:

-Obviously, I don't claim to speak for everyone. These are my opinions and nothing more. No one should have to qualify every statement they make with pointing that out. Yes, it's blunt and meant to incite conversation. No one need to get indignant or offended here.

-We all know Crown is is good...I'm speaking purely from a production standpoint.

-Everything I've listed in my original post is stuff I've seen in shows this year and last year. I'm not using hyperbole.

  3. For the last few years, I've been extremely disappointed in the direction DCI is going in terms of show production and artistry. It started in 2004 when they allowed electronics. We were told it would help us hear the pit and could be used in tasteful ways to enhance the show. Those of us who knew it would be abused also knew that that was a specious argument. No one ever had problems hearing the pit. So here we are a decade later and what we are seeing on the field is not drum corps in my opinion. What we now have is Cirque du Soleil meets interpretive dancing at its worst. In my opinion, Carolina Crown has been the worst abuser of this new style of drum corps. They have been dominating DCI for the past several years, and it seems all the competition has collectively decided they must imitate them in order to stay competitive.

And so I say to Carolina Crown and all other Corps who are becoming Carolina Crown: STOP IT. PLEASE. You're killing me. I can't take it anymore. What you are doing is the antithesis of drum corps. It's almost as if you are now TRYING to make the traditionalists angry. Just to give you an idea, here's a quick list of what nobody needs to see in a drum corps show:

-Props. They only stifle drill writing and are extremely distracting.

    -Quasi-political or subliminal thought-provoking messages

-Narrations telling the audience what's going on (btw, it still doesn't make sense)

    -Singing or gregorian chant

    -jumping on trampolines

    -lying on the field

    -Neon colored body suits

    -Pre-recorded saxophone drops

    -Trombones

-Squatting, pleats, dancing, or any variation of a ballet move

Is there anyone out there who was a fan of DCI and what it stood for pre-2004 who is actually excited about the direction it is now headed?

  4. Very surprised to see everyone's thoughts on the Cavaliers thus far. I realize there is no right answer to this question...but let's be honest...Cavaliers 05 & 07-13 is not even in the same pantheon as 00-04, 06. Not even close. Someone please back me up on this, there's just no way I'm in the minority here!

    My Cavaliers ranking:

    1) 2002 Frameworks

    2) 2003 Spin Cycle

    3) 2004 007

    4) 2000 Niagra Falls

    5) 2001 Four Corners

    6) 2006 Machine

Everything else up to this year has been a let down for me, considering where the Cavaliers once were. Just my personal opinion so no one get too offended or try to crucify me!

  5. Return of G bugles so I can hear and feel the sound of the horn line and the music.

    No more electronics.

No more dancing, Pilate's, yoga horn lines....that's what the color guard is for.

No more instrument or sticks thrown down at the side of your body, shoulder in my direction, head up and legs apart as the universal band geek sign of bad ### and squatting like you need to go and right now.

I wanted to get a thread and 1 sentence to get clarity of as to what people are wanting to change. Hope you will participate.

Well said. The squatting has gotten out of control.

  6. Excellent replies from everyone!

Just a couple things to follow up on my original post...

    1) I realize that the previous generation always craps on the younger and current generation, that's always going to exist. Someone metioned earlier that it is worth looking at who is actually to blame for perpetuating some of this nonsense. The show designers, music arrangers, judges, board members, aka: the "good idea fairies".....Dare I say, the previous generation??!! Can't prove it, but an interesting point nonetheless.

    2) I also recall there being some serious discussion (in my day) of allowing woodwind instruments to be included in DCI and therefore blurring the lines between marching band and Drum Corps. Let's count our blessings that THAT horrific idea never came to fruition.

    3) I personally will not stop buying tickets and attending DCI shows just because I do not like everything I see on the field. I continue to be amazed at the quality of musicianship and precision displayed by the marching members. I think that overtime things will correct themselves if it gets to the point where fans aren't buying tickets and corps members aren't returning to march. It is refreshing however, to hear from some like-minded people who want to stop this waterwheel of punishment in the form of new age/ultra-modern show desingns.

  7. are you aware that dissonant harmonies have multiple "correct" intonations?

Bad intonation from drum corps hornlines comes from player-to-player non-matching on the same notes. If you get 8 players to play concert C in tune together, and then get 8 other players to play concert B together, and then put the 16 players at the same time, you could take that minor second from equal temperament (RATIO of 2 / 2^11/12, or 1.0595), to just intonation (RATIO of 16 / 15, or 1.0667 [wider by approx 12 cents]), and others (ex, meantone temperaments), and the listener WILL HEAR IT AS IN TUNE.

Soooo...bad intonation is almost ALWAYS a function of players not matching within UNISONS. It has nothing to do with "perceived dissonance."

In fact, it's "common knowledge" in professional musical experience that says "the more people you put on the same notes [choirs, strings], the more likely it is to be perceived as in tune." This is called the "chorus effect." [look it up on wiki] Conversely, if you spread the players across more notes, it's easier to discern bad intonation, not to mention harder to play loud! This is what makes Blue Devils' brass trophies all the more remarkable, since they usually play much fuller harmonies (Jazz influence/Wayne's fancy) than the simple Western Classical Music or easy Pop Music played by almost everyone else. (Caveat: No one plays more unions and 5ths than Blue Devils...they know how to simplify for immediate effect! )

Phantom and Crown almost always sound "more in tune" than everyone else in the early season precisely because they sit on major/minor 1-3-5, super simple harmony all day/summer/winter/inception long. Have you heard Bluecoats this year? I think there's ONE loud 1-3-5 major chord in the entire show: hit in the ballad. Everything else is 7ths, 9ths, 11ths, 13ths or Mackey! That's called exposure, folks! No one in that hornline can hide! As soon as the judges figure all of this out, look out for Bloo.

I'm aware of the skill it takes to truly play a dissonant chord in tune. My main point is that it would not kill some of these corps to play a song with a melody once and a while. Sometimes I think corps these days are SO focused on technique that they forget that most people just want to hear something that is recognizable and audience accessible. Sure, you can spend all day referencing various performances from the past that disprove my point...but by and large I think most people would rather see a show that is somewhat familiar and memorable.

  8. Triple Forte- I get where you're coming from. I can pretty much guarantee you that drum corps composers use dissonant chords to cover up tuning issues and bad musicianship in general. I think this trend really picked up around '07 and has only gotten worse. Frankly, I'm sick of it and can barely stand to watch drum corps shows these days. I've always been a music first guy myself and a traditionalist overall. There is so much great music out there that hasn't even been touched in the past that has the potential to make great drum corps shows, but year after year every show sounds basically the same. It got so bad for me that I don't even go to drum corps shows anymore. Every once and a while I'll look up some clips of recent shows on youtube, but that's about it. Seems like more of the same this year as well.

  9. I don't normally say many things on the DCP message boards because I mainly just read other peoples opinions and thoughts. I think it's about time we just accept some things how they are. Stating 2008 is the worst Drum Corps year ever is just plain rediculous! I understand that alomost everyone hates narration. I personally hate it too but corps directors have the right to put what they want on the field no matter how much YOU and I hate it. Certain groups are going to use props...in some cases they are useless and add nothing to a show and in others they make it amazing! Every corps is going to make changes and try new things or else we will just get stuck in a boring rut! How would feel if the Blue Devils 2009 show was entitled "Sousa" and all they did was march in a block and play through 3 marches while the guard span 1000 drop spins in a row and then the show ends. Thats what drum corps might be if things never evolved and corps directors and drill designers never tried writing anything new. The day we start making RULES for corps that confine them into a simple box of choices we limit ourselves in what this activity can become. My point...sometimes WE are not going to like when certain corps put QUESTIONABLE ideas onto the field. It may be terrible...like the Cadets narration this year...or it may be pretty cool...like crown putting on a show about horses (in description it sounds stupid...but in real life it was one of the best shows in 2007). Drum Corps is an evolving activity that will continue to put wierd, stupid, amazing, perfect, terrible, quiet, loud, boring, exciting, slow, fast, relentless, terrific, new ideas onto the field each and every year. You can either decide to go with the flow and watch the different ways shows are put into play or you can complain about it and wish drum corps locked itself into a box of rules that make for the "ONLY" way YOU think drum corps should be. Drum Corps is not just for YOU...it is for everyone...and EVERYONE doesn't like all the same things...hence a world where many facets of shows will always exist.

And why do you think everyone liked the Crown's show about horses? If I remember correctly, the high point of their show was when they played the William Tell Overture (audience accessible music). So thanks for further proving my point. And yes, I know there were also props in that show...they didn't need them. Just like you thought I was too extreme by saying 2008 is "the worst year ever", I think you went to another extreme to suggest that I think all corps should play Sousa marches. There is so much great music out there that has never been used by DCI. In fact, I think it is MORE innovative to turn songs that we all recognize (and that we would never think to do on the field) into drum corps shows. As far as the rules go...we definately need them or else we are going to wake up one day and see saxophones in DCI which will be the end of the activity as we know it. The problem is that people have forgotten how much outrage there was going into the 2004 season when they allowed amps. People have gotten so used to it that they just sort of shrug it off now. Well, I and a few others on here still haven't forgotten. Frankly, I am insulted when ego maniacs like George Hopkins continue to shove this narration crap down our throats year after year when he KNOWS 90 percent of the fans want the old Cadets back. I think he's just doing it for attention to be honest.

  10. Thank you to everyone who made thoughtful replies. To everyone else: I can think of smart-### comments on my own. I'm looking for real input here.

To respond to some good points that were brought up:

-I believe that to a certain degree show designers have forgotten that the main purpose of drum corps is to entertain, not to necessarily to win. Drum corps has become more of a competitive sport in recent years (and there's nothing wrong with that) but I think at the end of the day, most people just want to go to a show and be able to hear some great music. They don't necessarily care who has the most sophisticated show or the most difficult music.

-To those who think I'm a grumpy old man stuck in the "good ol' days" of drum corps: I'm not that old.

  11. Is it just me or has the quality of DCI declined significantly in the past two years? To me it doesn't seem to be the level of talent among the members of the corps that is lacking, but in the the designs of the shows themselves. It is especially apparent this year in the top 6 or 7 corps (Cavaliers, Blue Devils, Cadets, etc...). The narration in the Cadets' show is an unmitigated disaster, the level of sophistication in the BD and Cavalier shows is that of a high school marching band. The only two shows I saw with any sort of potential were SCV and Bluecoats, but even their shows have significant design flaws.

Here are a few specific things that I think need to be done in order to reverse this trend of vapidity and save DCI from destroying itself:

    - NO MORE AMPS. period. Yes, there have been corps that have used them tastefully, but this narration crap has to end NOW.

    - NO MORE MEDLEYS. This is something that only the music arrangers can fix. For once I would like to hear a complete song. Nothing sucks the life out of me more than listening to medleys. A perfect example is the Bluecoats' show this year. There was absolutely no reason in the world to mix in clips of "On The Waterfront" between the Rocky music. Very difficult to listen to and it makes no sense thematically.

    - MORE MEMORABLE MUSIC. No more of this arcane and abstract crap that seems to go on forever. Maybe it will impress a bunch of highs choolers, but it's growing old on me. Also, no more shot notes every 5 bars, and no more drum breaks that last forever while the horn line is off in the back corner doing choreography just for the sake of doing choreography. If you pick music that people are familiar with, the will be able to relate to it more. You can still do a lot of crowd pleasing stuff without sacrificing difficulty.

    - NO MORE PROPS. They're distracting to look at and they take up too much space on the field that could be used for drill. I have never seen a show where I thought the props enhanced the show in ANY way. If you need props (and narration for that matter) to help the audience understand the theme of your show, it's probably going to be a bad show anyway.

I hope there is someone out there who understands what I'm talking about here. With the exception of one or two shows, I felt 2007 was a bad year for DCI and I didn't think it could get any worse until I saw this year's shows. I know this whole post sounds very negative and pessimistic, and I know there's a whole brigade of pollyannas out there who will disagree with me, but I feel DCI is slowly metastasizing in to some sort of nightmare out of a BOA contest.

    What does everyone else think?

  12. Here's some of my thoughts on the the evening show (from what I remember). I saw and heard a lot of things that I totally didn't expect after reading these reviews all summer....

Vanguard- still not back to where they were pre-04, but they are significantly better than last year and if they continue to improve at this rate over the next couple years they will get back to where they want to be. Don't remember a whole lot about the show, but the crowd seemed to dig it. Not a very memorable show in my opinion, but whatever, it's been great to see them improve these last couple years. Keep it up guys.

Carolina Crown- They have a very mature sounding hornline and honestly they were the only ones to kinda give me goose bumps. Their brass sound is so rich and well balanced. This was also the first corps in my opinion to carry out the theme of their show well. The show was very well written and it's very audience accessible. The crowd reaction was great.

Phantom- Not quite sure I understood the theme. Hornline was certainly good, but I don't think they were "showcased" well enough. Also, it seemed like all their soloists were having problems tonight (a lot of cracked notes). There was also a little too much ballet and prancing around for my taste. I know that is kind of their trademark, but it's growing old on me and I think it makes them look kind of sissy. I was hoping for a lot more "in your face" kind of stuff. I don't really know what else to say about them, I kind of zoned out during their show...not too memorable.

Bluecoats- This show was fantastic and seemed more like a show I would expect from the Cavaliers (more on that later...). The "Criminal" show is by FAR the most entertaining and most audience accessible. It was honestly the only show that kept my attention the entire time. Much like the Cavaliers, I thought all their choreography actually had a PURPOSE and actually ENHANCED the show. I see so many corps out there who do the same old choreography that all corps do every year and it starts to seem after a while that their just doing it for the sake of doing it. Also, the "narration" (or whatever you want to call it), fit the show perfectly. This show is so well designed that I just can't see it placing any lower than 4th on finals night. Oh, btw, I was skeptical about the new uniforms, but they look GREAT live and I think they are good for the new direction that this corps is headed in. Having said that, I do really miss the white pants and helmet. That was one thing I always loved about the Bluecoats was their uniform. It was always so refreshing to see them enter the stadium after seeing a million corps with black pants. Now they just sort of look like everyone else, but whatever, I can live with it. The new ones look really sharp.

Cadets- I'll start with the good stuff....Music is awesome, I can really appreciate them putting Symphonic Mvmt. on the field because I've played it sitting down and it was hard enough to stay together like that! The hornline was AMAZING as usual. They march well, they play well, yada, yada, yada.....Now to the bad stuff....That's right, the narration. Yes it's pointless and distracting and doesn't help get the point of the show across. We could bash it all day so I'll try to keep that to a minimum. However, there are a few things I just have to get off my chest here....was it just me or did the guy's voice sound EXACTLY like Napoleon Dynamite!!?? It just made the narration sound THAT much more ridiculous. And come on...."When I play my trumpet, something MAGICAL happens!!!" Can it get anymore cheesy?? Anyway, not a very good theme which made for a mediocre show. What was the show called again? "This I Believe"? What does that even mean? The Cadets have been trying to get a little too philosophical on us the last few years and I think we're all getting sick of it.

Blue Devils- eh, it was sorta cool I guess. By the middle of the show I was pretty much zoned out though. What was the theme of their show again? Who knows....and I really don't care. We all know these guys can march and play like nobody's business, but I think the people who have been designing their shows the last couple of year need to get it together.

Cavaliers- The show itself was good, but certainly not what you would expect from the Cavaliers. Like I said earlier, it seemed like the Bluecoats had the kind of show the Cavaliers needed this year. To be completely honest....No, they're not as good as they have been the past few years. They don't play as well, and they don't march as well. That is not to say they were bad, it's just that they don't stand out among the other corps the way they usually do. When I saw them up close during the encore, it looked like it was a REALLY young group of guys, and probably not a lot of vets. (but I don't know for sure). Any way, like others have said before me, the ending will probably get revised a little more before finals. As a matter of fact, I would say that this corps has the MOST room to improve between now and the end of the season, which is good I guess.

My overall impression of tonight was that most of these corps didn't have very well designed shows. Bluecoats and Crown were the only two (in my opinion) that had excellent designs and I think they will be rewarded for that on finals night. As far as talent goes, these corps are pretty neck and neck. No one really stood out in that respect. That's why I think it's all going to come down to SHOW DESIGN. So, here's my predictions of the top 7 corps at finals this year...

    1st- Cavaliers

    2nd- Blue Devils

    3rd- Bluecoats

    4th- Cadets

    5th- Crown

    6th- Phantom

    7th- Vanguard

Sorry if I sounded too negative here, but I really don't like to "sugar-coat" anything when I write these reviews and feed you the same old lines that everyone else writes and wants to hear. So take it for what it's worth I guess, it's just one man's opinion.

  13. Here's my take on all this...

I know there are people out there that pay much more attention to this stuff than I do and who analyze it to death, but at the end of the day your opinion as to why a corps placed the way they did at finals doesn't matter. If the Bluecoats got 5th place in '05, then they deserved it. End of discussion. All that matters is what happens on finals night. This time of the summer is always unpredictable because many corps have tons of changes going on in their shows. ONLY THE BLUECOATS know for sure what is going on right now with their show and I guarantee you they're not worried about placement. Plus, I'd rather see them in a slump NOW than in August. For now everyone just needs to chill out and let the time take care of things. The Bluecoats will get what they deserve on finals night, and I guarantee you they're not going to let this get in their way.

  14. yeah, i stopped reading this review when you said "I'm only reviewing the top six corps because honestly, that's all I can really remember, and all I really care about" HOW RUDE?!?!? There are some VERY good corps who didnt make the top 6 you know. And also the fact that you had the crappiest seats and don't know much about percussion or color guard didn't make me want to read any of your review either, because honestly you sound like you don't have a clue about drum corps period!

I suppose I could have re-phrased "all I really care about". I have respect for all corps...it's just that at this point in the season, people tend to focus on the more elite corps. I didn't mean to come off as a jerk. As far as my knowledge of drum corps, I'm a brass player so that's naturally what my attention is drawn to during a show. I have two years of experience, so I do know a thing or two. While this doesn't make me an expert, I think I made at least a few comments that would be worth considering. In fact, I don't think you necessarily have to have any drum corps experience, or much knowledge of the activity at all to make intellegent comments. Sometimes it can be just as interesting to hear an "outsider's" opinion.

Again, didn't mean to offend anyone....please don't take this stuff too seriously guys, it's just for fun. Let's just stick to constructive criticism :)

  15. A few things to keep in mind before I before I begin...

My seat was at the press box level but also on the 5yd line, so I can't really make too many comments regarding drill. Also, my knowledge of percussion and colorguard is somewhat limited, so I probably wont make too many observations on that. I'll be commenting mostly on brass, GE, and just the overall package. I'm only reviewing the top six corps because honestly, that's all I can really remember, and all I really care about. I remember more details in certain corps than others, but I'll try to write as much as possible for each one.

SCV: Don’t remember too much. It was a good solid show, nothing that blew me away, but I can tell that these guys are on their way back to where they were pre-2005. I've never been a huge SCV fan, but I have no complaints about their show this year. Everyone seemed to like when they exited the field while the show was still going. I think they did a great job of making their show concept obvious and audience accessible. This was also the first hornline of the night to give me goose bumps! Great job!!

Cadets: Didn't like it at all. I've been doing a lot of thinking about it to figure out why, because I've always been a Cadets fan. Here's what I think the problem is...When you make the whole show about ONE girl in the colorguard, It's hard to pay attention to the rest of the show. It seemed like the whole show revolved around the colorguard and that stupid rabbit. Also, I didn't understand why they had to have a singer. It didn't really add anything in my opinion, and you couldn't really hear her that well (maybe b/c of the dome?). Bottom line, their was just TOO MUCH CRAP going on…and WAY too many arbitrary props. When I saw them rolling that door onto the field, it made me want to punch a baby. It's a shame too, b/c technically every section of the corps was outstanding! The audience response was not that great either. People were sort of like, "uhhh…what is this supposed to be?". Both Bluecoats and Phantom beat them tonight, and I don't think that will change for the rest of the season. Cadets need to go back to the stuff they were doing pre-2004. I don’t really care about corps using amplification anymore, b/c I’ve seen a lot of corps use it in the right way, and it doesn’t really seem to be a big deal to anyone anymore. I think the Cadets abuse the privilege. I’m all for new ideas and innovation, but this show was just a joke and very embarrassing to watch.

Phantom: Nothing too memorable about this show, but it was executed VERY well. The main thing I remember was their slow movement and how beautiful the brass sounded! Phantom also gave me goose bumps and a chill down my spine during their ballad! Phantom always has a very rich, dark sounding hornline, which I love! Are they still playing on Kings? Whatever they are, they sound great on them. Again, I don’t remember too much, but their biggest strength is definitely their hornline!

Bluecoats: First of all, I marched here for two years, so they’re obviously my favorite. It is always exciting for me to see them get better and better every year! Once again, the Bluecoats blew me away, and were even better than last year. I think they had the first great soloists of the night. I think they’ve had that trumpet soloist for a couple of years now, and he’s fantastic! The baritone soloist was also excellent. One thing that I think the Bluecoats are finally developing is their own distinct marching style. If you look at Cadets, BD, Cavies, SCV, you’ll notice they all have a VERY distinct marching style that is the same every year. You look at these guys march and EVERY person is the same! In the Bluecoats you used to be able to always find a few weak marchers…but not this year!! This was the first corps of the night to get a few “oooohhhs” and “aaaahhhs”. However, as good as their show was, it was just no match for Cavies and BD…which brings me to my next point….The Bluceoats are at a point now where they can pretty much march and play just as well as any other top 5 corps. I think all they need now is a REALLY good show. Don’t get me wrong, the Bluecoats always have great shows, but they have never had a show that absolutely blows you away…and that is what they’ll need if they ever want to win a championship. However, they are definitely headed in the right direction…every year they get more innovative and more mature looking/sounding. My only complaint of their show is that they always tend to do a lot of “ballet” type stuff for their choreography, which is okay….they execute it superbly, but honestly it gets a little old after a while. I remember I hated doing it when I marched, and I hate watching it. No big deal though, it’s just that I prefer the more athletic/masculine choreography like the Cavaliers do. Anyways, excellent job Blue! Keep up the good work!!

Cavaliers: I have always been a huge Cavies fan, and I think this show was perfect for them! As good as all the other corps were, they are just no match for these guys (regardless of what they scores say). This show probably the most innovative show I have ever seen, and I think whoever is on their design team is a genius….seriously!! I have been thinking a lot lately about what makes the Cavaliers so much more entertaining than everyone else, and here’s the conclusion I’ve reached: Their shows are based on ‘concepts’ or ‘ideas’ rather than trying to tell a story that no one can understand (Cadets). They take that concept and present it in a way that is always accessible to the audience. You could have no idea what their show is about and easily figure it out only seconds into the show (which is how I think all shows should be). I don’t like stuff you have to think about too much. This show literally had the entire audience on the edge of their seats the entire show. It seemed like every 10 seconds there was some sort of gimmick that either made you laugh or made you jaw drop. I also notice every year that their colorguard is very well integrated to the drill. Some shows you feel like the guard is just kind of there off to the side of the hornline. With the Cavies, it’s all one package. There is also something about their marching technique that makes everything they do look effortless. I think it’s b/c of the exaggerated bend in the knees on the forward and backward marching, and also the relaxed upper body position. As good as some other corps are at the straight leg technique, they still look a little more tense than the Cavaliers. My only complaint for this show is the ending. From what I’ve heard, the final ending hasn’t gone in yet, so it doesn’t worry me at all. The current ending wasn’t bad at all, but a new ending would make this show an absolute masterpiece!! Anyway, this would have to be one of my all time favorite Cavalier shows, I think I will always like 2002 the best, but “Machine” is definitely a close second! Great job guys!!

Blue Devils: Absolutely loved it!!! Again, a very audience accessible show. I have never been a BD fan however. The only other BD show I have ever liked was 2002, but I also loved this one. I usually find their shows to be very choppy, and to not flow very well. Their drill is usually pretty boring as well. This year it was a lot better though! Someone else on these forums mentioned earlier that this was the first time in several years that BD hasn’t done the “Daaaah, Daaaah, Dah-Dah, Daaaah, Daaaah” thing in their music. Anyone else know what I’m talking about here? Hehe, anyway it was such a relief not to hear that this year! BD always has great trumpet solos, and this year was no exception. The opening trumpet solo was absolutely gorgeous! Blue Devils did the encore after the show and it was GREAT!! Loud as CRAP!!! I moved down to the lower section of the stadium centered right in front of them. Being on the 5yd line sucked a lot b/c you feel like all the sound is going right past you. This was driving me absolutely CRAZY, so it was nice to finally hear some sound. Plus, a lot of the sound gets lost when you’re in a dome anyway. Again, great year for BD! Keep it up!!

I think this is turning out to be a great year for DCI and it’s going to be a blood bath for these top five corps all the way until the end! I know it’s stupid and immature to make predictions for finals, but here’s what I think will happen:

    1. Cavaliers

    2. Blue Devils

    3. Bluecoats

    4. Phantom

    5. Cadets

    6. SCV

….or maybe that’s just what I would like to see happen, I don’t know….I’m sticking with that, so we’ll see!
