  1. Been away for the past couple of seasons, but came back this year.   I have watched the Cadets on 3 videos and am thrilled with what they put on the field this year.   Very much jazzier than past shows but I like it the more I see it.    Bravo!!

  2. Intellectual property theft is just wrong-- period.  Just because it is intangible doesn't mean people should be able to take it whenever they want it.

IP takes time, effort, skill, energy and will.  Just like producing goods.

Fight to change the laws if you think they are wrong.

As for me, I'll cheer whenever someone gets busted stealing it.

If the tables were turned the thieves would want payment.

On a site whose participants understand the value of music and art, this shouldn't have to be said.

If the YEA board is so disconnected and disinterested that they don't even bother reading this board, why would anyone waste their time writing them? It's like 2000cadet said, it's not as if the frustration is unknown or limited to a few disgruntled alums. It's even among those who simply love the activity and have no direct connection with Cadets.

I'm very willing to bet the YEA board members are not scrolling through 984 pages of posts on this board to determine the content of DCP'ers with GH.  That's my point that something more direct is required.

My point here is that people are typically willing to complain on social media about things, but never take the next step.

  4. So if they're in for Bernstein the next two years.....what I'd like to see:

Fancy Free/On the Town--On the town was based on the Fancy Free ballet about Sailors who come to NYC on leave.   Could be a great show with no narration and a fun story to tell. Plus the music is totally kick ###.  Quite a bit of it has been played before but only a few times and most quite a few years ago.

Chichister Psalms-- Actually quite a bit of it is very similar to Mass and I prefer Chichister over it.  I was really hoping that was going to be the repertoire this year.   If they use it, there are going to be complaints its too similar to this year.

Jeremiah/Age of Anxiety--- Lots of good stuff in these two symphonies and plenty that hasn't been played before.

Will be interesting to see what happens.  I haven't given up on them.

  5. YEA is run by a non-profit board.    George is the CEO.   George works for the board.   If you want to see a change in leadership then you need to get the board to see the need.   Complaining about him on here will do nothing.

All of their names are listed here on this page.   Get your pencil and paper and put your effort where you typing fingers are.

  6. It's really a shame to see all the nay-saying in here.  Are the Cadets only worthwhile if they are in the top 3?   I've never felt that.   Thank goodness for the alums and supporters of corps like Madison and Phantom who didn't dis them and throw in the towel when they aren't a top contender.   Disappointing.

Funny you say that. I disliked that show so much at the time but it's grown on me as time passed.

I was going to say that folks bashed the crap out of the Christmas show at the time.   They also did that to 2005 (drumspeak = sacrilege), 2007, 2011, etc.

Perhaps 2017 will be added to that list in time?

Has anyone been able to get into the live stream? I didn't receive an email today and tried using the previous password and it does not work. If you have tonights password can you please PM me.

Yes.  Sorry I didn't see this sooner I'd have given you the PW.

Overall I think they show can work.   And the uniforms are fine, although I think the skirts are going to make footwork hard to clean.   Tonights audio was so muddy I couldn't make much of the quality.

While I disliked last year's theme from the first time I saw it, the reality is it's all in the execution of a story. That said, Cadets have struggled to move beyond the "faster and louder" era. There seems to almost be a stubbornness to their show concepts, we will give you what we want, not what you want...and then when people don't like it, they go into panic mode, which results in someone dragging mannequins onto the field.

The overall quality of the top 10 corps now, in every respect, means you have to put a cohesive fun show on the field...and march fast and play loud...or you won't have a chance to medal. I am very confident that Cadets will figure it out, they just have too much history and talent on their side.

There have been many BD shows that I wouldn't consider remotely "fun" that have won.  Cabaret Voltaire is at the top of that list.
