And did this member talk about how the next day Jon would redo a lot of the previous  day’s drill because he thought of something better?

Yes. He would occasionally update overnight in Pyware and load in UDB if something wasn’t working.

Have you ever watched Jon Vanderkolff write drill? He does it pretty much the same way.

Talked to a member. He wrote 10-15 sets a day on Pyware, uploaded to UDB each morning and they learned 90% of the show that way. The only part that was more organic on the field was their ballad .

The best word I heard about BDs movement was said by Rondo and Lindsay Vento and that is "strategic". Do they move a lot? Yes, and much much more than in previous years, but less than 10% of their movement is in form to form drill. They actually do not even write drill and everything is 100% staged. I guess the days of a 200 dot book are gone.

Some people love that they are shattering the drill paradigm, I for one hate it, and I hate even more that the judging community seems to love it. To me it is such a departure that it's like brass judges giving a group super high scores for playing only woodwind instruments, because that is an outside of the box element.

Got it. No drill. I guess I just watched the wrong show then.

saw it live,  know what I saw and heard.  they do perform the hell out of what they are given,  but random running (yes everyone runs some, but most do it in form), horn sections playing the hard part standing while the rest of the hornline moves playing simpler parts.  I've seen them do it all, and say it this year as well.  I loved when they were taking risks, doing things noone else was doing, most hated the absurdity and glass darkly shows, but I loved them cause they were doing new and exciting things.  now their shows bore me cause it's a lot of nothing.  take a risk, try something new, experiment with multi meters while moving.  something to excite the crowd other then two different color sleeves so you can hold one up then the other and wow what a cool color change.

As a major Bluecoat fan, that's just not true.  Go watch them back-to-back. I just did.  I rarely love the Blue Devils, but they moved a lot.  BD was not as visually clean as I expected, and I feel like Bluecoats definitely have a significantly greater amount of choreography and dance responsibilities for their brass.  With that said, that's a really great Blue Devils show and they run to spots no more than anyone else at this point and play on the move.

It probably won’t matter as I don’t think this will happen but, this is what I heard:

If a corps wins all captions at finals, they are given a Black Championship ring to designate the accomplishment. If a corps goes undefeated through the season and also wins every caption at finals they are given a white championship ring.

So, tonight’s score is in play. Though the likelihood of winning all captions is very low.  But if by some miracle BD runs the table (of head to heads), and wins all captions but loses this competition on a technicality, then this would be discussed in more places than DCP.  All hypothetical at this point. Haha

DCI has nothing to do with Championship rings and there’s no design rules.  Each corps designs their own after the season through services like Jolesh and members typically pay for them (usually $150-250) on average.  Blue Devils can design a black or white ring no matter what the final recap shows.

Having a constant hole in their opening rifle and then flag work on the cubes has to be hurting.

Why water some parts down?  Because whilst they had a 92 for content they had an 87 for achievement. And somehow they have to close the gap between the WHAT and the HOW. There has to be some compromise and their overall dirtiness is going to hurt visual and GE scores.

They don’t seem to be cleaning at the same rate as others. Maybe it’s too much demand yet again.
