Maybe those instructors should consider that there are waaaaaaaaaaay more corps members who are injured because of excessively intense rehearsals, and being expected to tough it out when there is an abnormal pain that needs to be addressed, than there are because of unaware field judges.

Or they could focus on both like they are doing at these meetings!

That is great to know that one of the 70 such corps we had back then found a way to make it work.  Which corps are we talking about?

I’m not posting names and I’m done discussing. The instrumentation change helped many more corps than the average fan knows. It added a revenue stream throughout the activity that didn’t exist before.

I agree (subject to a couple of clarifications).

No, not just the top. I was highly involved with a non-top 12 corps at the time that made money annually on their investment  2 years after the switch. That additional revenue stream kept them afloat.

The manufacturers also have the incentive to get their equipment into more and more schools.

For the top corps, there were economic incentives to switch.  For everyone else, pricing was cheaper for G brass.

"Any-key brass" was presented as "more options" that would supposedly co-exist with G brass, and perhaps even invite additional key choices.  Instead, it became a competitive mandate that drove G horns out of DCI.  Voices from the judging community said as much at off-season meetings, and later in their judging tapes.

(It is not my intent to wade off-topic with this... only to address the prior question about drum corps being "monolithic".)

I would rather not go off topic, but there are so many issues with this statement. Switching to any-key brass helped some corps continue to exist financially. Any Key brass has turned into a profit center for drum corps. After the initial investment, corps have been able to resell to schools and other organizations to MAKE money each year while also putting better instruments in the hands of the members. They were not getting that resell value with G Horns.

Your assertion that people are attacking the members is inaccurate and doesn't need to be addressed. Moving on. Using your logic, no one should be able to critique the performance of anyone in any position lest the critiquer is willing to assume the role. We vote out bad politicians who have volunteered for the job.  The current BOD and leadership in Madison volunteered for the job when they applied for a role within the organization. They put themselves in charge of an 80-year-old youth group that has thousands of former members who expect a certain level of excellence across the entire MS spectrum.

Just because someone is saying the show design is poor doesn't imply that they think they could do a better job. However, it is incumbent upon the leadership to hire the best designers available and either oversee the design process or trust that the person or people they hired will put a competitive product before the members. There are people who believe, perhaps incorrectly, that the philosophy of "scores don't matter" has been put on steroids as a way to justify being closer in scores to the Pioneer than SCV.

Just as sports' fans call for coaches to be fired, drum corps fans also have a particular passion about the way the corps they love or marched with, is run. This IS the forum for such talk. It's what social media is for. If everyone only posting positive and glowing tripe it would be disingenuous and useless. Some of the posters here are from a generation where they were taught to tell the truth, not something that sounds like the truth. If the Madison management team is spending time riding this they can take it or leave it.

It's my understanding from earlier Pages in this thread that a FB Alumni Page was archived in part because current leadership didn't like some of the content. Well, MS leadership can't shut DCP Pages down, and those who would have kept their thoughts in the family were kinda forced to shut up or post here.

If YOU  OR I don't like what is being posted, we can simply stop reading. Don't scold the messengers, they are exercising a right and opinion.

Wow, the level of negativity and arrogance of some of the Madison alumni is just ridiculous...

I hope all the members and staff of Madison have an incredible final week and that this negativity stays away from them.

I’m not understanding the comparisons to Bloo. Just because of the jazz and screamers?

Scouts alums would go equally as crazy if Madison dressed up in Bloo 2016-2017 type of uniforms

Bluecoats are staging masters, they don’t do any of the flashy things the Madison scouts used to do such as company fronts

If jazz and screamers is what people think is all it’s gonna take to get Madison competitive, they’re going to be disappointed.

Edit: forgot to add that one of the big appeals behind Bloo is their masterful use of technology and amplification. That kind of thing would not fly well with Scouts alums.

    Company fronts are flashy?

It isn’t live. There are clips. She can back off the mic and the volume doesn’t change but through repetition she has improved greatly. Think of it as singing with her own track.

Please don’t spread false information. That’s completely not true. She’s 100% live. The clips are Billie Holliday.

.....and we have no idea how hard it must be to get all the FE equipment onto a deserted island either after being shipwrecked or whatever and lost at sea, and washed on on a deserted island.. I suppose it helps to use our imaginations here with some artistic license understood granted with all of these shows/ themes/ instrumentation/ attire/' props, etc utilized now. All these production performances are afterall, on a football field. lest we forget, regarding the venue.

Just looks cheap and not well thought out.

Disappointed they closed rehearsal. I know so many that would love to cheer them on and hype it before the show.

Let them work out the kinks of trying the uniforms on for the very first time without being in the public eye. It's one closed rehearsal of the entire season!  I guarantee the members don't mind.
