  1. I debated with myself as to wether I should post this response or not. You guessed it....I decided to respond. :P

Being a huge drum corps fan of any stripe I like (Not love) the 1987 Garfield Cadets show. I even had the chance to see the show live twice that summer (One of the nights they faced SCV). I don't think their execution (Drill wise) was at a very high level compared to what we had seen from them just a year or two prior.

My favorite shows from them (In year order) are......

    1984, 1986 (An odd one yes), 1989, 1993, 1994, 1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003

I am one of the many who perferred SCV in 87 than the Garfield Cadets.

Its obvious we all like different things.......thats what makes the work go around..

    Triple Forte

Yeah but I asked you why you liked it, not why you prefered SCV that year.

  2. A little seperation from the neo-rebirth in the possible 2007 thread...

    1987 Garfield Cadets, Appalachian Spring...

Easily one of the most positively talked about and acclaimed shows in DCI's history.

Why do you love it so much?

Me? Yes this is corny and a little odd. However, watching this show makes me feel good. Have a bad day? Flip it on the DVD player and the mood immediately brightens. I feel as though every drum corps fan, member, judge etc... is required to watch it. It has an unfathomable explanation as to why this activity is good for the human mind and spirit. Hearing the first chord to the dissolving company front, the show is a spectacular celebration of all that is good in the world.

At least this is how I feel.

  3. Jersey Surf and raiders have established themselves very strongly in the area of the north east, They're very financially stable with incredibly saavy directors and partners.

From what I've followed since I live on the East Coast, Jersey Surf probably has more people show up to their wintercamps than a lot of division 1 corps out there. They're building something incredible over there. Disregarding the scoring, and everything, they put out possibly one of the most solid Division II/III seasons.

  4. Don't play.

I was rubbing my eyes watching that video after i came off tour. Rubbing my eyes cus, it was that clean.

2002 Cavaliers, no it wasn't the cleanest thing I've seen, the guard had quite a few drops finals night, it wasn't their strongest performance, a few phasing in the feet that became quite noticable.

  5. List some moments that you consider almost surreal because of cleanliness, texture, design etc... anything...

1998 The Cadets - Company front enough said

2002 The Cavaliers - Frameworks, intonation during that ballad

2003 Blue Devils - The opening turn around fast note runs.

2006 Carolina Crown - The chord from the spookies.

The Ultima of them all 2005, The Cadets, Dreamscapes in Four Parts with a Door. Oh my god, I've never seen an overal package that clean at finals night

  6. You know what I've noticed is that the Cadet's don't really have a championship consistency like other corps.

    1985-1st

    1986-4th

    1987-1st

    1989-5th

    1990-1st

    1991-6th

    1998 - 1st

    1999 - 4th

    2000 - 1st

    2004- 4th

    2005 -1st

    2006 -5th

they jump all over the place, no real "gradual" movement up or down. Just spots of years here and there dip and downs.

probably a lot of times, the most unpredictable championships, not during the season, but before.

  7. we had one rule too. You didn't have to sleep, but you had to be quiet so others could sleep. however if you chose not to sleep you better not be dragging ### the next day.

when I marched in coats the staff had done some research and they found that the average person cycles through REM sleep every 3 hours so when we got into housing they would base our gym time on 3 hour blocks. so if we got in at midnight, they'd probably give us 6 hours of gym time. but if we got in at 3 in the morning then we would only get 3 hours of gym time.

    really? that's pretty sweet info

  8. 1993 The Cadets

1996 The Cadets (The promise of living intro, technical ballad)

    1998 The Cadets

    1999 Blue Devils

    1999 The Cadets

    2000 Santa Clara Vanguard

    2001 The Cadets

    2002 Santa Clara Vanguard

    2003 Blue Devils

    2005 Carolina Crown

    2005 Bluecoats

    2005 The Cadets

    2006 The Cadets

    2006 Carolina Crown

    2006 Phantom Regiment

I gotta hand it to the cadets, they certainly do have a consistency of great ballads.

  9. Just as an aside, the conspiracy theorists have missed out on the big one....

    DCI relocates to Indy.

    Home also of BOA.

Management of a Div. I DCI corps is handed over to a BOA power.

    DCI remains silent.

BOA and USSBA have been married to consolidate power........

    You get the rest.

    Have fun b**bs

You realize that BOA and DCI share a majority of people in power. If not the BOA managers are very aware of the DCI entity.

Eventually I believe USSBA will grow beyond both soon, it offers an amazing number of events, great pay for judges, and excellent Venues all over the east coast for an incredibly cheap price, and very very qualified judges.

  10. ditto, but as usualy a change in dci will result in quite a few angry people~~ :ramd: :grouphug: :blah: ~~ <these fine icons here to the left certainly demonstrate some peoples feelings.

btw ive mentioned this before.. what ever happened to the 110 member rule, or the minimum score of 75.00 to remain in div 1 that DCI was toying with?? im not possitive but i thought the 110 member rule was passed ..no??

although i voted as div 2/3 as an introduction to the drum corps experience... its a mix of drum corps being a minor league system and it being based on #'s. Div 1 corps have cadet corps (farm systems under the major organization). and there are some corps that have the #'s to play with the big boys but indeed intend on ruling div 2/3. either way, both ways work and theyre playing the game of DCI.

dont like it?? then either recruit, fundraise more..get better staff?! ..either or.. youve forgotten or simply ignored the initial intentions of the corps to introduce kids into the activity with a MODERATELY** competitive aspect.

    thats all for now, adios

There are some division 1 corps that should not be in division 1.

  11. This is what I seem to think

    2006 - Phantom Regiment

    2005 - Phantom Regiment

    2004 - Santa Clara Vanguard

2003 - Phantom Regiment and Blue Devils

    2002 - The Cadets

2001 - Blue Devils and The Cadets

2000 - The Cadets tagged by The Cavaliers, Santa Clara Vanguard, Boston Crusaders (great year)

1999 - Madison Scouts and Santa Clara Vanguard

    1998 - Blue Devils

1997 - The Cadets and Madison Scouts

1996 - Phantom Regiment and Madison Scouts

    1994 - Blue Devils

1993 - Phantom Regiment tagged by The Cadets and Star of Indiana

1992 - The Cadets and Madison Scouts

    1991 - Phantom Regiment

    1990 - The Cadets

  12. not if you are holding it correctly.

you SHOULD be holding it all with your left hand.. your right hand (actually not even your hand.. just your fingertips) rest on the valves, pushing them down. your right hand should not be holding the horn at all. but that goes the same for a euph, bari, sop,.. i mean.. trumpet.. mello..

one thing about carrying a horn, versus a cymbal (of course i never played cymbals, and yes id agree with what you said about them) but.. having all that weight in front of you, where you dont move your arms at all.. really builds up the lactic acid... and that makes it even worse.

    Yep,

Holding a Euph is a #####, no lie, you hold it with your left hand, your right hand only presses the valves. If you try to hold it with both, you won't get correct pressure on the valves at correct angles.

I think during wintercamps in drum corps, or sectionals, the euphonium is possibly the most painful to hold.
