A wonderful interview. I thought the interviewer was thoughtful and understood his subject and I thought that Dan really does a great job at "fronting" our activity.
BRAVO DAN!

no way that scv brass is .6 ahead of cavaliers. dont know that judge is smoking. and cavalier guard should not be scoring that low in guard they have had better scores and havent lost to crown in that really that much at all all season.
oh well. lol
Welcome back Debbie Torchia to the world of drum corps. We've missed you......well, maybe not!

Didn't George play snare in the Crossmen?

I can't wait to see where cadets lie in a 9 judge system.
I heard some kids were getting sick? I hope that's not true, but if it is, I really wish everyone good health.
It's 8 judges now. They discontinued the second percussion judge at major regionals.

I'll hold off speculating until:
Shows east of the Mississippi have full judge panel (8) shows and
All the "top" corps are in the same show.

I personally haven't seen the show, but I believe that someone mentioned in the official Scouts thread that they DO remove the head mask at some point in the show.
They do pull it back for a bit, then they put it back on. I saw it in Des Moines.

Wow guys, the answer is simple. Regionals have full panels. DCI West was a regional. Normal was not.
Therefore, but the Duh's Law:
DCI West -> Full panel
Normal -> Not a full panel
</thread>
The panel for the Stockton show
Brass Performance Mark Petrash
Guard Curtis Costanza
Music Ensemble John Bell
Ensemble Visual Dan Smith
Music Effect Jay Webb
Percussion Dan Bryan
Visual Effect Scott Pizani
Visual Performance Ed Warren
Is Stockton a regional for DCI too?

The last few shows in California had full judge panels (8.) Is there a reason why this isn't the case in the rest of the country?

Complex, more in-depth programs take longer to develop. I doubt they are selling the equipment and buses just yet.

The show just lacks something.
Croutons?

Especially with 2 minutes still to add.

Actually, they are in Goshen, IN.
And I'm pretty sure Bruno likes to keep things close to his vest.

I like the patch, btw...
So does DC comics. Do you think they got permission to use it before they incorporated it into their uniforms?

I think at times, it's easier to blame something/someone else (in this case the judges) for the shortcomings of our favorite corps. Every year, corps make choices. In the long run, those choices turn out to be correct or incorrect depending on the end of the season outcome. Some corps don't care, some do care and some say they don't care, but they really do. The bottom line is you live or die by the choices you make.
The judges are an easy target, but I doubt they care what happens outside of a contest. They have a vested interest in the activity, but in one particular corps....I don't think they'd expend the energy needed to target a particular corps for failure.
Food for thought.

For what it's worth, not until I saw Phantom's show last night did I fully comprehend the story (being unfamiliar with Spartacus). I saw the show live and from my perspective, unless you know what to look for, it's not as clear as many think it is. I didn't even notice the drum major getting killed until after the fact, as I was watching the corps proper instead. Last night the cameras highlighted the most important elements of the storyline, which made it much easier to understand.
That said, I don't think it's possible to tell a clear story through a corps performance to an unfamiliar audience on the first read. Cadets' 08 story was very clear because they literally told you what it was. Even Crown 07 I didn't make the connection about the photo finish until they added the amplified voice. I'm not saying that amplified voice should be used to tell a story, just that it's the only guaranteed effective way to do so. Otherwise, corps need to rely on nuances and detail throughout the production and hope they get noticed. DCP even plays a role here where one fan notices something and tells the masses to look for it, which increases the effectiveness of the show from a fan's standpoint. What separated Phantom's show was that so much of it was over the top, turning it into a borderline theatrical production. It made for a great drum corps show don't get me wrong, but I don't think I would be pleased if the majority of corps started putting faux musicals on the field.
Lastly, I just want to say that I would rather watch a show without vocals and not fully understand it until seeing the video or until I listened to the director's commentary than listen to a very obvious show with vocals. But hey, that's my personal preference.
I am familiar with the story and am still wondering why they killed the conductor....it wasn't in the story I read. Was he rushing the tempo?

I think that practice died along with DCM.
Personal Opinion: Having been brought up Catholic, prayer is nothing new to me, however, making a big deal about it on the 50 yd. line, kind of defeats the purpose. If you want to pray with your friends, do it by the buses where it is a private time between you, your friends and The Lord.

I'd be interested to see who they will have judging.

Not going. Don't care much for the lineup. School still in session. Will get my fix in a month or so.

WGI only awards HOF status to living individuals. Some may have passed since, but none posthumously. They have honored those that have passed by naming divisions at the World Championships such as Brubaker, Brazalle and Zingali.

It's called "added" or "multiple" responsibilities on the performer. It gets more credit than just standing and playing.
