  1. A long time ago (80's maybe?) during the finals broadcast they would show a collage of videos taken on tour of various corps day to day activities. From bus shots to sleeping in the gym, eating, packing, and practicing, all backed by Willie Nelson singing "On the road again". It made you appreciate what these kids go through and if you went through it brought back pleasant memories.

  2. I was just reading the new on my android table (google play newsstand) and came across an article about a young woman named Sara Mutschlechner who was killed in a road rage incident. The picture accompanying the article shows her standing next to an orange traffic cone on which the DCI logo is prominently displayed. Does anyone have more info on her?

  3. As far as having fun and spreading the word, i live 45 mins south of reading (and i'm getting married in guess where....ABERDEEN! on saturday), yet i still drive to empire, along with folks from the eastern shore, frederick, and columbia MD....and we're all going back next year

Congratulations Nick and best wishes to you and your bride to be. (PS Is she aware of your Drum Corps commitment?). I took a date to a drum corps show. She sat there totally in awe all evening. Her comment after the first corps, "This is amazing, where has this been all my life." We married 4 months later. That was 42 years ago. Kids marched, wife toured as a volunteer. I hope you find the same happiness.

  4. I don't live in the north east and did not see you guys and gals until Rochester. When the season opened and I read of the problems you both were experiencing I was dismayed and frankly did not expect much from either of you at finals. I'm writing this to thank you both for not giving up, for confronting the problems and dealing with them, and mostly to once again show this old guy that the spirit of drum corps lives in all of you. Thank you both for giving us an entertaining and enjoyable set of shows. Good luck to the both of you going forward..

  5. Some very important history being made here tonight.

8 out of the 14 corps in finals were from areas outside the NE. Both the Class A champion and the open class Champion are from areas outside the north east.

Surely after this season some people are going to have to recognize that DCA is no longer primarly a NE based activity.

I think the point that you're missing (and I say this respectfully), is that DCA is a NE SUPPORTED activity.

  6. I have to agree with most of the above posts. I feel that the mini-corps show should remain "un-ticketed" although I could certainly see where the competing units would benefit from a buck or two in contributions.

More important, however, is the noise level coming from the back of the room. I missed several of the mini-corps because I just had to get away from all that noise for a few minutes.

We'd criticize people openly and severely if they chattered away during a corps' field performance (as was done on another thread regarding some staff members), so should we treat mini-corps with any less respect?

I mentioned the ticket with 2 thoughts in mind:

    1. With an attendance in the thousands the money from a nominal ticket fee (say $5.00) would go a long way to helping these minicorps with their limited resources.

    2. We would probably loose a percentage of the audience who just come to socialize in the back. A good thing IMHO, and those folks would probably very quickly find a new venue for their reunion.

    My flame suit is on..

however I hope that everyone realizes I mean no ill will towards anyone.

  7. Seriously?

    A. How long have you been in / around Drum Corps?

    2. Have you never experienced the "catch up" on camaraderie time of DCA weekend for so many folks?

    C. Have you no clue about the present day economy?

Oh, I could build on this list... but, why bother.... you didn't seem to put a whole lot of thought into this topic to begin with....

    A. Since 1955

    2. Yes

    3. Yes, retired and living on SS.

Oh, I could build on this list... but, why bother.... you didn't seem to put a whole lot of thought into this topic to begin with....

Please explain. Not about A an C, but why it's important for 2 to occur during a corps performance and not for example outside in the hallway?

  8. I've watched the attendance at the mini corps show in Rochester continuously rise. There seems to be a split in the type of attendees. One group appears to be there to watch all corps and enjoy/evaluate their performance. The other group appears to watch one or two corps then congregate towards the rear of the hall and actively socialize to the point where it is at times the background din is so loud it becomes disruptive. What group do you fall into? Should we seperate the social area from the performance area? Should they charge a fee (tickets) for attendance?

  9. Greetings all,

Due to a major dissapointment I have 2 complete ticket sets to DCA finals for sale. I'm not willing at present to break them up. These premium tickets are in section 307 Row I seats 23 and 24. Offered at face value and includes 2 coupons redeemable for the DCA Yearbook. The financial breakdown is Prelims 2 * $37, Alumi Spectacular 2 * $27, Finals 2 * $82 for a total of $292. Please PM me with any questions.

  10. I'm not from Omaha either, but do you know where you're staying? Do you need to check in at a hotel first? Are you going to the Countdown first, then getting a late check-in?...

    Good luck!

    Garry in Vegas

    Thanks for the reply Garry...

I do have a rental and planned on checking into the hotel after the show. I actually have to be in Sioux Falls the next afternoon so, depending on how I feel may just drive part or all the way up after the show.

  11. i think they're all starting at 7:30p?

you can choose from either of these two theaters in Omaha:

AMC Oakview 24 or Marcus Village Pointe Cinemas

Since I'm not familiar with Omaha traffic do you have a suggestion as to which theater might be the quickest to get to?

  12. Yes. I thought Bb was a bad idea until the benefits were explained. It turns out that some of those "benefits" were crap, but in the end, the sound hasn't changed noticeably. The importance was in keeping the all-brass concept, and from then on, I thought it was indeed the most important thing to use the best instruments above all.

That's exactly what prompted me to ask this question. When I first heard Bb I thought "No". But, I'm a drummer what do I know. Like you, after hearing the arguments my heart still said "No", but my head said "Give it a chance". Thanks for responding.
