2006 Blue Devils, hands down
-
I picked BD '04, and yes I do believe it should have won. It was ridiculously clean.
i second that. there were a lot of ticks in cavies that year, and summertrain was one of the cleanest shows i've seen. not really sure why BD didn't win.
-
the head drum major was on side one on the 35 yard line, then there was another on the side two 35 yard line, and then the third "mobile" drum major started on side one, conducting some of the opener, before moving back field in the ballad
-
BD/Phantom Tie, debatably my two favorite shows of all time... I love BD's Score, and Phantom's Emotion was absolutely phenomenal
SCV- had another great show. a nice come back after what happened in 05
Crown- good hornline, what else is new
Glassmen
-
for the record, the 3 drum major "candidates" are the same 3 from last year, and they aren't auditioning, they all have already made it
-
i think its cuba. they are going to play cumbanchero
just kidding. although it really does look like cuba

2005 Academy (Div II)
1987 SCV
2005 Madison Scouts, minus the two seconds of malaguena
1985 Madison Scouts
1989 Phantom Regiment
-
2002 The Cavaliers, Frameworks... ONLY 99.150, are you kidding me?!?
2006 Madison Scouts, Primal Forces... NOT IN THE TOP FIVE......... gotta be the weird drill
is this even to be taken seriously? "ONLY" a 99.150. HAH! need i say more? i think not. It was by far the best of the Cavaliers Championship's since 2001, but it was not THAT good of a show, come on now
-
good show, but others come to mind. Madison 03, SCV 05, Crossmen 91, I would put above.
ditto on SCV 05
-

If I were to get a gift for one other, would the 2005 Classic Countdown be my best choice or 2006?
2006, hands down... the top 3 shows will go down as some of the greatest in history, while in 2005 there weren't any shows that i would regard as highly.
-
can somebody explain the SCV bottle dance to those of us who are clueless, like me, since i really only listen to shows from 87 and after
-
"The Best of Holsinger"
selections would include:
The Spirit of Orpheus,
Abrams Pursuit, and
At the Strongholds of En Gedi
some people dislike holsinger and say that he's played out and everything sounds the same. whatever, Cadets rock the #### out of it.
if your show is the best of holsinger, for a ballad you might consider the beginning of liturgical dances, which is probably the most beautiful of holsinger's works
-
1. Bottle Dance in '74
2. Cavaliers step over in '80
3. Fight Club in '02
4. Bridgemen's full corps collapse in '76
5. Z-pull in '83 and '84
what happened with the bridgemen in 76?
-
your top 5, not THE top 5... just the top 5 in your opinion,
1.) 2003 Phantom Regiment- Cannon in D reprise
2.) 2006 Blue Devils- The main theme reprise
3.) 1991 Star of Indiana- The Crosses (enough said)
4.) 1989 Santa Clara- The company front at the end
5.) 1996 Phantom Regiment- The chord build
-
There has to be a minimum. If you make it no minimum, then the traditional corps are going to keep it around 135, and then the others are going to lower to around 100 members because they can clean up their visual package more easily. It's not fair and there is no reason to change it.
-
I'd have to say the Blue Devils. I understand that this isn't about the winningest, but still, correct me if i'm wrong, they haven't placed below fifth since they won their first championship. They haven't put out a single show that didn't have some amazing moments, at least from what i can remember.
Santa Clara Vanguard a close second.
With Phantom, BC, Cadets, Cavaliers, and Scouts all mixed in after.
Also give Star some consideration. They made finals every year of their existence.
Div II- The Academy, sure they've only been around 4 years, but they're undefeated.
-
blue devils closer. by far. when they do the reprise... holy crap... especially when they changed it towards the end, i think in allentown.
-
lets not kid ourselves their bicycle step + black pants = covered up visual dirt. :P
yeah pretty much. i love everything about PR. but that is definitely true, although there are certain shows that the black just wouldn't work for, harmonic journey, apasionada 874, etc... this year would have been good though.
-
I'm usually doom and gloom when it comes to staff changes, but I think Phantom will do fine this year. I don't see them winning though.
off topic, but if they had the black uniforms, i think they would have won this year. the white shoes just magnify ANY and ALL foot problems, black would have covered up a lot of that... not to mention they look so sweet in the all black.
-
Since when does a corps move up 4 places purely because of their brassline?
i wasn't saying that based solely on their brassline... i think visually they were about 6 or 7, and musically about 2 or 3... so i had them fourth. i was really impressed, their show was a lot cleaner than i was expecting visually.
-
how do you guys think the loss of seidling will affect PR... will they have a tough time adjusting to Rick Valenzuela? what are your thoughts, will PR keep climbing, and perhaps win a second title next year?
-
I don't believe that saying "Crown got hosed" has anything to do with BK. Sure, BK may happen to be the corps that "overtook" them, but overall I feel that Crown's placement was low, as I personally would have liked to see them 6th or so. Oh well.
Crown has absolutely one of the best brass sounds EVER! and the guard is truly amazing. The guard is well-known, but not enough IMO. If you want to talk about innovation, it's unreal. It makes you want to pick up a broom and go at it. I watch 05 over and over and wish that somehow they would have made the 3rd CD so that I could focus in on them.
Excellent work Crown members and staff, and I'm looking forward to seeing you next year in Pasadena!
Based on what i saw in quarterfinals, i would say crown probably should have gotten 4th, IMO. The sound they produce was phenomenal, so warm. i spoke to a couple people who were able to actually go to finals, and they said crown was amazing. so regardless of their placement, they had a great year, and i think they'll continue moving up in the next year or so.
