  1. That's really cool wasn't aware that Gold has necklaces. Back in 05 and 06 when I was involved with the corps, we received membership pins, not necklaces. Do you know when the corps started doing this?

The necklaces began in 2010. Each new necklace comes with a gold ring and a show bead for that season. Subsequent show beads are earned as you march each season. As was mentioned before, gold and silver beads are earned if you stick around a while. Section beads are thrown in the mix as well. The yearly membership pins are still a tradition.

  2. Looks like only 4 of the 21 corps not getting scores this weekend includes:

Scouts - will get a couple scores next weekend

Renegades - no more scores this season before prelims

Sabers - will get a score next weekend

Excelcior - will get a score next weekend

Gold should be on the list above

Gold will get its next score next weekend in Reading.

  3. How do we get in? :)

    Hi Holly!

Gold was somehow already in the "list of charities" on the Chase Community Giving Facebook page. We are listed by our "official" name as known to the IRS. I imagine that's how everyone is listed.

.....But, I did find this in the rules:

    - be recognized as a 501©(3) public charity in the Guidestar database as of 12/31/10 and be available for selection through the Chase Community Giving application as of 10/26/11;

If you are not already listed, I don't know how to make your group "available for selection." I'm hoping someone can shed a little more light on this for you.

  4. Granted, I haven't marched in 20 years, but is it now customary to charge money for an 'Open House'? I don't get it. Why would an all-ages corps limit themselves by making an interested potential member pay to learn about the corps? And auditions for an all-ages corps? When did this start?

    Hi Dreu,

You will find that a lot of corps now charge for Open House. For us, it's simply a way to help offset the administrative costs it takes to run the event. If prospective members stay on with us, money paid goes towards their dues.

We use "auditions" as a way to help place people on parts, particularly in the horn line. For percussion and guard, it is more like a true audition. Auditions also provide a way for members to really take ownership of their spot. There's a bigger sense of pride when members know they had to "work" for it. I do want to emphasize that no one is ever cut from the corps. We find a place for anyone who really wants to be there. As you know, opportunity lies around every corner.

  7. Raleigh, NC (May 9th, 2010):

Platinum Drum and Bugle Corps is thrilled to announce its DCI debut for the 2010 season in Open Class competition. This comes after much awaited news from our DCI evaluation that took place in April. Things were looking good for Platinum as we just got the word in from DCI that we have been accepted! The drum and bugle corps will participate in DCI events throughout the summer, and will feature a full horn line, percussion section, and colorguard. A more tentative tour schedule is now being completed and will be up soon so that all of our fans (or soon to be fans ;)) can come see what we are all about this summer.

With evaluation completed, staff and members continue to chart ahead, memorizing the the rest of the show and continuing to put drill on the field. Platinum's next camp will be held on May 28-30, 2010.

For possible members who were still interested in possibly marching with Platinum, time has not run out for you yet! During the month of May, Platinum is still accepting membership applications from qualified musicians, especially those who have any experience in Mellophone. Simply email us at Platinum.indoor@gmail.com for more information. Then bring a completed packet to any of our scheduled rehearsals, and we will show you what Platinum can offer you. (See Website for details)

We here at Platinum recognize that the challenges to march in a competitive drum corps are difficult, and we know you are just as concerned about your wallet as you are about the quality of your Drum Corps experience. That is why we have put together a top-quality program at the lowest possible prices.

Be on the lookout for any further announcements, such as the revealing of our show concept for the 2010 season.

From Carolina Gold Drum and Bugle Corps:

Congratulations on your evaluation for DCI Open Class Competition! Gold wishes you all the best for this season and beyond. The hard work the Platinum Family has put in thus far will pay huge dividends down the road.

Once again, CONGRATULATIONS and we look forward to seeing you on the field!

    With Warmest Regards,

    Shedrick J. Samuels
