  1. OK well I'm not a noob at the tuba. I know how to play the Standard 3 valve C tuba. I have always wanted to try out for Blue Devils. Since they use BBb tuba's with 4 valves ive always wondered what the fingerings would be like. So if anybody could help me with the fingering I would really apreciate that. Thank you. Open Discussion if you want to.

The 4th valve can be used in place of 1/3 combination. It significantly helps tuning on those notes.

1-4 will be close, like always (pretty much a toss-up, all depends who shows up and who the judges want to win

5-6 These two could flip easily, esp in August with Bush

7-8 All depends on how the transition to Bb works for CorpsVets

9-10 Close all summer, with Brigs up top at first but Cru catching in the end

11-13 Kilties, Alliance, MCL Just a tough year to break into the top 10... Alliance feels the move

  3. You're referring to me? I'm hysterical? LOL

Tell you what .., why don't you ask these people graduating college this year - including many DCI people - if they have any job prospects lined up? To suggest the economy isn't in the toilet is simply ridiculous. There is nothing "hysterical" about that.

It is just life, I graduated with a degree in accounting in August 2008 - and I am still working Landscaping..

Economy sucks, I got over it - I will do anything to march

  4. Really? This sucks!

We have a crappy product and someone willing to make something better and DCA sticks with the crap stuff?

I Know there is more to it then just "BVP, you're fired" and "Jeff DeMello, you are hired", but still...

I would SO buy DVDs if they weren't made by BVP.

I second that, I dont buy the videos just because of the ridiculous price (not to mention the crappy quality). If someone could make better quality for less for the individuals to buy... why couldn't this happen.

Side note, HD would be AWESOME

    Just looking on Best Buy:

    3 pack of Blu-Ray is $28 (25GB, $9.33 each - .37 per GB )

    100 pack of DVD is $57 (4.7GB, $.57 each - .12 per GB)

Either way, Should easily be able to beat $30 for one performance, $40 for two (single corps) or $100 for a show!!

Prices are just out of hand... why cant someone else bid, someone should be able to answer this!

  5. Great to see some interest! Currently, we are building our line, and probably have 2 (?) snares. (Im just a visual guy, I have no clue what they are going to do - I just see people moving around alot.)

As for the drill, shouldnt be anything too demanding, I believe we are using a drill to enhance the music.. not be the focus.

If you have any questions, contact Ed Coleman V on the website (or me personally and I can get you more in depth information.) If you are interested, come check us out this Sunday.. 12-5 PM, Iroquois HS

  7. Like Shadow mentioned though isn't a kanstul powerbore in the wrong key? Wouldn't it be expensive too to buy a new horn just because it weighs more? I don't really know how much those go for though or much about it.

Not for us people still using them....:thumbup:

  8. I will chime in both aspects here...

1.) I believe a Kanstul Powerbore is only about 3.5 lbs. And I do find myself seeming to forget about horn angle sometimes just because I did play the larger horns. That being said, adding a weight (a heavier mouthpiece or heavy caps) made the horn just that much heavier that I thought about it (out of comfort normal zone)

2.) For euph, we added two 1 lbs weights (total 2 lbs) onto the horn. One around the bell(with a piece of cloth under it to avoid scratching) and one under the valve casing wrapt around all the tubes under there. We would use the for practice indoors. Then for the ensemble at the end of rehearsal we would take them off and be beasts with great horn angles.. because your holding 8 lbs instead of the 10 you were holding all day. Outside, we opted to only use the one under the valve casing, and would take it off for the final runthrough of the day. We did this till about early July (DCA) and by then, the horn was seemed "lighter" and like we werent holding a euph.

I know that some people may say that the added weight may make the horn play different.. and in some cases and physics it may just be true. But it is probably so small of difference on a larger horn that it practically plays the same anyway.

  9. PRESS RELEASE: April 1, 2009

The world renowned Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps announced today April 1st they will use electronics in the 2009 season.

The corps recently purchased a used Mattel "Mr. Microphone" at a local yard sale.

Mr. Scott Stewart, Corps Director of The Kilties and icon of the drum corps activity asked for a emergency meeting of the Board of the Directors of the organization to secure funding for the purchase.

The organization formed a world wide fundraising project and after a successful effort one alumumn can was found to offset the cost of the needed equipment.

Mr. Stewart explained the corps is performing the movie score from "Blazing Saddles" in 2009; and the electronic equipment addition will enhance and amp the noise effects being duplicated from the famous "camp fire" scene in said movie.

"The membership of The Kilties are very excitied about expanding the effects of the 2009 "Blazing Saddles" show," Stewart said. "We've already outlined a concise healthy corps meal program of baked beans and cheese to ready the membership for what should be a explosive season".

Had me going for a minute, but then I thought that you were just going to use it for the DCI shows to try to fit in (ducks).

Happy April Fools.. that was a good one! (Woulda been awesome if Bucs woulda done something like this or told us they were folding)
