Yup, definitely some impressive drum corps moments in the 70s that make me proud to be an alum!
-
Madison Scouts: Men of Madison. Most guys in the corps love this name.
(I've known some haters who call us the Masculine Doubts)
Not gonna lie, I laughed the first time I ever heard them called the Masculine Doubts.
-
When that corps marched local kids, they were the envy of the drum corps world.
I don't think that is why we were the envy of the drum corps world. Back when we were on top of all the standings, we were marching circles around everyone and doing new, innovative stuff (ex. the Sunburst). I'm sure it was really nice to have all of the kids from Casper, but I don't think they were the reason everyone loved the Troopers.

Why would you need to edit out the word "Mastication"?
D'oh! I guess you're right!
-
Could also be that no matter what someone posts on DCP, someone has something stupid to say that will drag the topic down.
-
We used them to develop balance and blend. Unison, tone cluster, unison, tone cluster, etc. Step out of the balance of the ensemble and then get back in it upon resolution. Not necessarily space chords as the staff didn't necessarily agree with how they are taught and used in some groups, but more tone clusters.
Favorite staff quote in regards to space chords (which may need to be edited):
"Space chords are musical m**********n. They simply exist to get the guy in front of you off."

I remember a truck-stop in Iowa in 2007. It was like 3 in the morning or something (i really have no clue), we got off the bus just like any truck-stop. We walked in, and litereally everyone was like holy ****! It took me almost 5 min just to get to the bathroom, and the Wendy's was still serving food that late! I couldn't remember what the name of it was (I was half asleep), but a few months after tour I saw a Travel channel show (Top 10 Truck-stops) and it was the #1 truck-stop. The place is called Iowa 80. Their website is HERE.
I'm pretty sure that was 2008. That place was HUGE!

But the question is, why would a group do it? As far as rules go, I haven't the slightest on if it is legal or not. I can see the purpose of a pre-show to sort of set up the whole idea of a particular production, but it seems pointless to me to do even more show after the judging has stopped. Maybe I'm just silly though.

Whenever I felt my shoulders creep up, I forced them back down and made myself stand as well as I could. Eventually my shoulders just went numb, and then I was a happy camper. After a few days, strength started to build up, and it was a non-issue from then on.

Here's my Windows upgrade:
Sorry, I just had to!

This is what . . . the 38475202934th thread on this? Congratulations. Chances are, you weren't supporting the activity that much anyway. Good riddance.
-
How could we forget this? The corps used to go by this name.
Ghetto Romance.
-
had it. tastes like pine trees.
Doesn't all gin?
-
Especially when everyone should know that 2+2=ottoman.
Hahaha, true!
-
Why have a limit on age when we're removing the limit on instruments?
This "argument" is like saying 2+2=chair. It just doesn't make sense!
I will say it again. I don't care about quality of performance and whether it would go up or down with older members. The fact is, young adults 21 and up have NO BUSINESS in the same activity as 14-15 year olds. If the age limit were to be removed, then we need to make a rule adjustment saying something like World Class is 18+ only, whereas Open Class is for the 14-17 year olds. Or something like that, I am by no means an expert on creating or removing rules.
-
No, no, no. 21 and 22 year olds have no business marching with 14 year olds, let alone 23 and 24 year olds! If you really want to march when you're that old, go march DCA.

Crown = Boise State/Utah. Lots of talent in a program that's been growing for the last few years and can mix it up with the big boys but haven't won the big one yet. Both also have a VERY vocal fanbase that carries a pretty big chip on their shoulder, thrives off their "outsider" status and believes they're never getting the respect they're due.
As a proud Bronco, I fully endorse this statement!

Does anyone have any info as to who will be working with the Madison Scouts this next season? I haven't been able to find any information anywhere? Thanks!!!
Oh, I see what you did there!

Cadets: Stonehenge Volume II: Woodhenge (2011 will be Strawhenge)
lulz for teh Eddie Izzard quote.

So if video of the Troopers coming back to the field for retreat happens to make it to the site that shall not be named, they should let us know. By not naming the site they are on. But still telling me so I can see it.
I'm just sayin'!

For the record, I loved your show last year as well!
Thanks! I loved marching it! I'm just uber stoked I had the opportunity to come back for this season and vis. tech for a couple of weeks. What a fantastic time. I had missed them all so much. They deserve their place in finals!

Get drunk on Friday night and sleep in Saturday. 21 and over, of course.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the great Scott Atchison;
(After a member was gone for a considerably long time in the bathroom) - "(Name) YOU BETTER GET YOUR ### OVER HERE OR I'M GONNA S**T ON YOUR HEAD!!!"
also:
"NO STOP! STOP! STOP RIGHT THERE! WHEN ARE YOU GUYS GONNA PLAY RELEASES CORRECTLY? WHEN ARE YOU GONNA DO IT? YOU AND YOU ALONE! PUT THE HORNS DOWN! YOU NOTICE THERE'S NO DRUM MAJOR UP THERE? THAT'S ON PURPOSE!... MISSED RELEASES IS LIKE STEPPING IN DOG CRAP!"
And finally, from Brian Stevens, upon realizing some of the members of the snare line aren't paying as much attention as they should, while there happened to be several preteen girls walking behind the scaffolding
"Snares you need to-... Dude, A.J.... She's like 12, man, stop lookin'."
I think I almost died laughing when I heard all of these. Great memories!
As long as we're stirring pots...Why so many camps?

What an ignorant statement. I freakin' learned how to teach from watching my drum corps instructors, many of whom are respected music educators in their day jobs. No education in drum corps? Whatever, dude.
