  1. What an ignorant statement. I freakin' learned how to teach from watching my drum corps instructors, many of whom are respected music educators in their day jobs. No education in drum corps? Whatever, dude.
  2. Yup, definitely some impressive drum corps moments in the 70s that make me proud to be an alum!
  3. Not gonna lie, I laughed the first time I ever heard them called the Masculine Doubts.
  4. I don't think that is why we were the envy of the drum corps world. Back when we were on top of all the standings, we were marching circles around everyone and doing new, innovative stuff (ex. the Sunburst). I'm sure it was really nice to have all of the kids from Casper, but I don't think they were the reason everyone loved the Troopers.
  5. Could also be that no matter what someone posts on DCP, someone has something stupid to say that will drag the topic down.
  6. We used them to develop balance and blend. Unison, tone cluster, unison, tone cluster, etc. Step out of the balance of the ensemble and then get back in it upon resolution. Not necessarily space chords as the staff didn't necessarily agree with how they are taught and used in some groups, but more tone clusters. Favorite staff quote in regards to space chords (which may need to be edited): "Space chords are musical m**********n. They simply exist to get the guy in front of you off."
  7. I'm pretty sure that was 2008. That place was HUGE!
  8. But the question is, why would a group do it? As far as rules go, I haven't the slightest on if it is legal or not. I can see the purpose of a pre-show to sort of set up the whole idea of a particular production, but it seems pointless to me to do even more show after the judging has stopped. Maybe I'm just silly though.
  9. Whenever I felt my shoulders creep up, I forced them back down and made myself stand as well as I could. Eventually my shoulders just went numb, and then I was a happy camper. After a few days, strength started to build up, and it was a non-issue from then on.
  10. This is what . . . the 38475202934th thread on this? Congratulations. Chances are, you weren't supporting the activity that much anyway. Good riddance.
