I think DCI’s statement can be read between the lines to say the current director has to go. Will fan response be negative to the corps this summer? These accusations are based on actions that happened in many cases before the marching members were born. Any fan who would not support the kids on the field as a way of blaming them for the director’s behavior would be ignorant. My guess is that if the Cadets is able to field a corps, they will well received if for no other reason, they are beleaguered. My hope is that the many good and talented Cadets alums who have wanted the corps, and there’s a slew of them, will work together to keep the corps alive, and that could happen. Cadets alums are a formidable group, and while GH had his supporters, the loyalty was to the corps first. Since so many are educators, they already know what is expected regarding the safety of young people, this could reassure parents. I hope they are able to group and keep the corps together.

I agree, and I totally understand from the Fan aspect.

I hope the fans don’t treat the corps any different, it’s hard to know, considering this is really uncharted territory.

The corps are all their own independent organizations what can DCI do except remove the corps as a member if they don’t hold up their end of the mission statement?

DCI isn’t responsible for this. YEA is responsible for this.

But DCI can very easily remove them from all shows/regionals. Remove all money they get from those events.

And in an extreme circumstance wipe them from the history books. (Which for the record I doubt will actually happen)

I'm wondering if there might be a wholesale name change to the org as a means of completely cutting away from the issue once all is said and done.

No matter how it settles out, no matter if Hop and the entire BoD and instructional staff leave, even with everything gone but thee equipment and a new group of leaders top to bottom, the name of the Cadets is tainted...possibly beyond repair.

A new BoD, director, staff, etc, might choose to rename the org to get a fresh start.   Might be easier than trying to rehab the name.

I hate saying this but they might actually have to “burn it all down and start over”

I hate that, I don’t want that. I don’t there to be an * next to The Cadets for the rest of history.

But, at this point, with the allegations and the way the Board of Directors are acting, this might have to happen. I just hope DCI (if and when) they have to make the decision do it.

  4. Two thoughts that are running through my head.

    1) Will DCI make a decision regarding The Cadets before season starts? (Doubtful)

    2) Will the Fan response be negative with them if they field this year?

I believe that no one is guilty unless evidence is proven and produced. However, these are major allegations and if the paper has more accusations and is releasing those on Sunday, then DCI might have to work faster than they anticipated

I don’t want the Cadets to go away, however a change in leadership might be needed sooner rather than later.

  5. I don't thinking THEY have to win back the fans. (The twice I saw them live, people really liked that show).

I was not a huge fan of it. I just didn't like their closer, and I don't think the field manipulation worked as well as it could of IMO.

I still like 75% of the show. I just felt the show kinda just ended and stopped.

I am curious on what they are going to do next year, I will always be interested in what Crown does.

  6. Wow, There are a surprisingly high amount of offensive comments and just general assumption in some of the posts in this thread, which is surprising since there was none of this in the Broken Arrow thread last week, considering both shows took place in the same state.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Anyway, moving onto the show.

Cascades: I like the new uniforms, they made some changes to the opener I am assuming. The back half of that show is really good. I do love the Shostakovich Tenth that is being played. And I will never say no to 1000 Airplanes on the Roof.

Academy: This show is the definition of taking a fun idea and running with it. It's a great show and good god can they play. I liked it quite a bit. I love the carmen mixed in with Hungarian Rhapsody. It all works really well. Also, the Red on the uniforms pops well.

Santa Clara Vanguard: This show is Insane. There is so much going on. There are cool little drill moves within other forms that you miss when you sit low. The soloists are playing SO MANY NOTES, and the percussion is the best this season, I am confident in saying. Vanguard is on a tear this year, I am still convinced they can catch BD come finals. This show is a championship show from first step to last.

Cadets: The new ending is really good. This show just makes me feel eh. I dunno if it looses steam after the opening few minutes or what, but I just kinda get disinterested, which is a shame because I know that this show is difficult as hell, and I don't feel like the crowd feeds off of it well, But there are moments of just beautiful writing the opening statement is one of those, as is the end. I feel like the jazzy sequence is a mixed bag sometimes. Overall, I like the changes I just don't know if its enough this year.

Carolina Crown: Crown, Oh Crown. I have a very interesting relationship to this show. First off, the opening Little Fugue in G Minor is virtually liquid music. (Hey, did you all know that crown brass line is Insane.) I also like the Crown Imperial portion and how its mixed with I think Giannini Third symphony. (Let me know if I am wrong, I don't know that piece super well). I changed on the ballad as well, and I don't mind the singer, the ballad is beautifully arranged, and the big moment in the ballad is so good, and the reverb it gets in a outside stadium is worth that moment. After that... the show doesn't work for me. I guess its the narration part of it, I dunno. The show has grown on me quite a bit, I just... I dunno..

By the way, I don't mind the "bandos" coming to these shows, if it means the activity grows and gets bigger.

  7. So I saw the show Tuesday night at the TOC Broken Arrow show (Which was awesome, I hope they do one there again).

This show is an absolute monster. Just completely insane, in the best way possible. I am hopeful they don't change the ending because the Psychopop reprise at the end is pure joy. Between that unison statement on the 50 (I was sitting second row on the 45, and I was just about blasted out of my seat), and the #### contras running full speed down that ramp the ending is just awesome.

But more than that, you can tell the kids and having fun and the show is just a joy. The ballad and the Prelude work really well in person than on stream. Plus the new effects work really well, during the solos.

The whole show is great. This is a medalist show, its my favorite show of the year.

Whatever they are doing in Canton, they need to keep doing it.

I nearly spit out my water in my mouth when I first saw this at Denison. I was right on the 50, about 5 yards back (basically underneath the staff). I've never seen anything like this attempted before. I hope the judges award them for this, because it is definitely serious (risky) business.

EDIT: You really have to be field level to see this in its raw power form. Unbelievable really.

I have low level seats for the broken arrow show this season (which is a TOC show).

I just saw that video of the run-through on YouTube, and I love that closer even more, but that ending is just insane is the best way possible.

  9. I feel like I say this every year.

This bluecoats show feels like a championship show (Moreso than tilt, and I LOVE Tilt).

    The design, and the uniforms.

They were on another level last night. If the peak, watch out.. But I know we need to wait to see what Blue Devils and SCV is doing.

But I felt as if the bluecoats were better than cadets, and crown even. They are doing stuff that is different, I just hope the judges and the crowd buys in.

EDIT: another thing, this fels like something that The Blue Devils would be doing, and maybe thats a good thing.
