  1. I will say though, when I first saw the progress with my own eyes on the stadium when I got back from the summer, I about dropped my jaw. There is not a stadium that I have ever been too that is anywhere close to the size of Lucas Oil. It is massive.
  2. Living in Indiana, I know for fact that it is going to be an issue for corps to get "good" housing. School starts the following week after finals in most school systems. This means that bands are in band camp and that football is in football camp. This equals no fields or space to be used by outside organizations. There are going to be a lot of corps staying at middle schools.
  3. Cop, Thank you for your very personalized and energized response. 1. The designers indented for the vocals to be another part of the music, just like the mello line, or the quad line would be. There is only twice, if you actually pay attention to the show, that the voice actually goes on while the corps is playing or where both are important. The rest of the vocals take place in between. 2. I believe you have misread what I have written. I did not say that it was the BEST cadet show ever; I said it could have been the hardest cadet show ever. Where you got "best" cadet show ever, I am not sure. I did say that they marched and played like or if not better than some of the cadet shows of the past. 3. "not that entertaining of a show" I respect your opinion. 4. I stated above that the cadets did tie for first place in G.E. but were mixed 2-5 in the other performance captions. IMHO the cadet’s show was at a higher difficulty level than the rest and the judges this year produced a tick tape for each of the performance captions, while in the past, cadets received credit for their level of difficulty even though some aspects may not have been as clean as other corps behind them. I do understand the argument that perfection should win. 5. I do give credit to the other shows and their designers, but this topic is about the cadets. 6. To answer your question, I would still have started this thread because people would have still be negative about the cadets whether they won or lost and this thread isn't about whether the cadets won or lost, it is about what we want from the cadets in the future. The intro was my opinion as stated. Thanks, ROUNDER
  4. The thing is that, and this is an old topic, that narration and amplification is THIS activity. What I mean by that is, DCI allows the use of narration and amplification, which means that it is a part of THIS activity. Yes, hopkins may have began the voting process, but it takes a majority of directors to pass the rule. So all of these "changing dci into boa" stuff doesn't work because the rules say that it is allowed. I still have to say that the visual and music of the cadets this year WERE kick ###.
  5. With the end of the 2007 season over, I personally feel that the Cadets should have been #1, narration or not. After being away from drum corps for the 3 or 4 weeks since finals, it was fun to sit down and watch all of the shows last night. Am I the only one that feels that the cadet’s show was at a much higher difficulty level AND performance level than the corps before. I also don't mean by a little, I mean a substantial difference. Obviously they did place ahead of the corps before them and I get that. Then they showed the best 5 minutes of the Blue Devils show and I still think that the cadet’s show was even more exciting. Again, my opinion. SO, to the topic: What do we want the cadets to be? Everybody on here has some sort of opinion on what the cadets are doing now. A majority of you dislike the narration and want the cadets to go back to what they used to be (1983-2000) or so. Though if you take out the narration and just listen and watch the show, I think it was probably the hardest cadet show to date and they looked and sounded like the cadets of the past and even better. Also, during the years listed above, the cadets were the cadets because of how they pushed the envelope in this activity. Aren't they still accomplishing that? DO we want the cadets to stop pushing the activity and conform to what the other corps are doing? If they were to do that, would they be like the past cadet corps? It also seems like the judges are not giving the cadets credit for the level of difficulty of their show. I believe the cadets tied overall G.E. on finals, but were scattered from 2-5, mainly placing in the middle of the all performance captions. Are the judges saying that perfection is better than trying to do something that other corps do not attempt and if the cadets want to win, they need to do what everybody else does and not move as fast. I believe that the cadets used to get credit for the level of difficulty of the show. So again, is that like the cadets of the past? So, what do we (you) want from the cadets?
  6. Cadets this year. I find it interesting how BD went from being in the 4th to 5th range in brass all season long (Behind cadets and Bluecoats in Stanford the week before) to all of a sudden winning brass the last week. As far as Bluecoats go, they sounded great, but whenever they played anything challenging it was standing still.
  7. That's funny, I have heard all of the narration that is in their show so far at the last camp, there was not any singing and there was no hint that singing would even be added.
  8. There is a Rock Bottom in Indy as well. It is very close to the new stadium. Few Blocks walk.
  9. Oh my gosh, drum corps is evolving. As much as you all would hate to admit, The Cadets are a major reason why Drum Corps is what it is today. If it wasn’t for George, there would still marching timpani on the field as members march from straight line to straight line. And if George didn’t bring his ideas and get the staff to develop the marching techniques that make drum corps what it is today, somebody else would have. If George didn’t push to get amplification/voice, somebody else would have. As it was already discussed it takes more than just Mr. Hopkin's vote to get something passed. So get over it and realize that Drum Corps is evolving and changing just like everything else on this planet. I swear reading some your opinions almost makes me ashamed of being a part of drum corps. This is about the members that work their tails off all summer for their chance to feel great. You owe it to the members of every corps to sit and watch the hard work of the members throughout the season. I marched for the fans (most of you), I marched for the appreciation at the end of the show that brought the crowd to their feet. If there are any present cadets reading this thread, best of luck this summer and show these people just what it means to be a Cadet. "Thank you, you have a very nice drum corps" Not my opinion, just facts of life.
