  1. Ok, so maybe respect isn't the right word to use...(since everyone should get respect for marching). I guess what I am getting at is someone who marched say BD, Cavies, Cadets, SCV, etc. going to be viewed differently than someone who marched an open class corps? I know people who have never done corps will obviously have that level of being "star struck" when they see someone who wears their gears or whatever....but what about people who have been around the activity for 5, 10 , 20, 30 years?

  2. So I was thinking the other day...When you meet someone who has marched, what do you respect about their career the most? Where they marched? How many years they marched? What instrument they played? I think everyone gets respect who has marched, but I was wondering if you see someone in say a Cavies jacket who has a '00, '01, and '02 patch on their sleeve versus someone who has marched somewhere like Spirit for 6 years....(and there is no disrespect to Spirit here. Only using them as an example...). What do you guys think?

  3. As a trumpet I can say it all depends on where you audition. I had been playing 5+ years when I first auditioned at a lower finalist corps and BARELY got a spot. I mean barely (and it was more because of my marching audition). When I moved to the top corps, only playing for a few months isn't going to cut it on trumpet. I'd def say go for baritone. I know most corps are ALWAYS looking for baritone players, even a lot of the top corps...

  4. Dont forget THE CADETS have been around for 75 years, but have only been championship caliber since around 81 or 82. A little over 25 years!

Crown has had a meteoric flight to the upper tier in the activity. The excitement for Crown is at an all time high. If you enjoy the corps enjoy the corps.

    GO CROWN GO!!!!

Anyone else like the stab at Cadets in there? My thing about Crown is that the fans feel it necessary to always compare the corps to another corps. I think it has been proven over the last few years especially that you don't need to compare. You are your own corps and should not have to make correlations between corps to make yourself look better. Now I could fully understand the OP being turned away from Crown by watching how they react to certain wins they have....

  5. Well yeah, I understand that too. I was a little upset I wasn't going to get any footage for myself, but the kicker was how they went about the rest. I also overheard them talking about me several times throughout the night. One of them was pointing me out to other staff for sure because they said "Yeah, thats the YouTube kid." This is especially where the final statement on my previous post comes in. If any of the staff were to read this, an apology would be nice but I'm not really expecting it. I just would like everything to be cleared up and all the facts straight. I am 20 years old and I feel like I should have at least a certain kind of respect when I am being talked to. I respected them by shutting off my camera. I feel like they could have respected me a little more. I don't want to be treated like a little child. I felt like the staff was baby sitting me when they had much more to worry about. Sorry if I'm taking this rant too far.....its just how upset I am about this.

Maybe you should shoot George an email. I'm sure he'll be able to explain things better than we can. I agree they did go about this the wrong way. It seems interesting because I have never experienced anything like that in my time marching....

  6. Crown 2007 was on to something that I was hoping they would go after again this year. They had humor, story and very creative drill. I know you can't always reproduce that kind of thing every year, but I miss that fun and surprise that made their 2007 show so entertaining and a joy to watch each time. They earned the Disney Award that year, miles ahead of everyone else. It will always be one of my favorites.

Buuuuuuut.....doing a show like 2007 isn't going to win a championship. Which is sad to say because I did enjoy the 2007 show. But I know a lot of people would rather see crown take a title now, and then go back to a show like 07 later.

    Thanks for the review!

  7. Great review!

Sounds like it's going to be a good battle between Crown and Cadets again this year! Crown has a lot of cleaning to do visually, but will get there! I can't wait to see how things shake up in late July into finals week!

I really don't think it is....Cadets have just too strong a program this year. Sure Crown may beat them MAYBE once, but I highly doubt it. I guess we'll see. All I can hope for is some great drum corps this season!

  8. it seems everyone is scoring cadets higher than crown... for what reason?

Well probably because in the 20 years Crown has been in existence they have beaten The Cadets all of 11 times. I think the odds are in their favor

For me it looks like this:

    1)Holy Name - 72.65

    2) Crown - 72.5

    3) BAC - 66.7

    4) Glassmen - 63.5

    5) Colts - 63.2

  9. The first 2 minutes of this is "Pre-Show". not judged etc. The show starts officially when the battery comes in and the brass fades out.

The first 2 min i was really sitting here thinking why everyone was going so crazy about it. I thought it just didn't go anywhere (for me), but the last 2 min were actually pretty cool. Still early, but sounds good! Can't wait to see em! (Just hope the rest of the show is better than the first 2 min  )

  10. I went to the Spirit picnic. Brass line was actually pretty solid. Pretty full sound. Drumline and what I saw of the guard needs work. The most shocking thing for me was the fact that Spirit using a piano/synth in their show....and I caught wind that they are going to use amped voice.....

  11. Then what is a harder show on Bflats?
    Than 08 Crown?

    BD 2000, Cadets 2000, Cavaliers 2000, BD 2001, Cadets 2001, SCV 2001, BD 2002, Cadets 2002, BD 2003, Cadets 2003, SCV 2003, BD 2004, Cadets 2004, BD 2005, Cadets 2005, BD 2006, Cadets 2006, Phantom 2006, BD 2007, Phantom 2007, Cadets 2007, SCV 2007, Bluecoats 2007, BD 2008, Phantom 2008.

Just a few off the top of my head. There are more.

These...plus some more. Just FYI, sometimes it's better not to show your marching history in situations like this....b/c you marched crown '08, you obviously have an unrealistic bias to your show.

Anyways, back on topic, I'd say mine are:

    Cadets 93, 97, 00, 05, 07

    Star 92, 93

Many more, but those are just a few....

  12. Nah, Cadets were too far behind in music and visual. Their GE was holding them up so high. But, if they took the narration out and played that show exactly the same, their GE would have shot up a lot closer to the full 40. All of the marching during silence would have been dripping with GE! Granted, that wouldn't have put them in first, but I still say that narration held them back a bit.

Music yes. They trailed BD in music ensemble and percussion all year, but traded off brass every now and then. Visual on the other hand.....if you can get a copy of the semi's breakdown, check it out again. Cadets were .1 behind Cavies in guard while BD was something like .7 semi's, but on finals Cadets were like .5 behind BD. Cadets won Vis ensemble thurs and fri by .4 (or .5...can't remember) both nights and lost finals by .4. Vis perf was BD all season long...I think Cadets were .1 behind finals. So by my calculations, BD wins music by a good bit (b/c of drums), while Cadets win visual (if judging was consistent). So maybe Cadets DON'T win.....but it would be a he** of a lot closer than 1 point.....

  13. I was there for Finals night in 2007, when during the Cadet's show. Right before the third movement when the baritone player begins to talk about his experience with music, a member of the crowd yells, "Shut up!" Anyone who was there heard it. It's difficult (but not impossible) to hear it on the finals DVD's. If you listen closely, you can hear someone shout something and then a few people laugh. It happened, and I was there.

Check out my response a few pages back.....oh and I was there too, though I couldn't exactly hear that since I was performing for you and whoever yelled that.

  14. Cadets - 15 (poster thinks that might just be hornline)

If I remember right there were like 7 trumpets, no mellos (not quite sure, it may be 1), 7 or 8 baritones, 1 or 2 tubas, pretty much all of the battery (I think there was 1 tenor, 2 bass, and maybe 3 or 4 snare left), and like 15 guard (maybe not that much). So all in all like 45 age outs for The Cadets. Lot of people able to come back. Should be a lot like 07....
