  1. I'm a big fan of the 2003 Z-Pull. Classic. But 2007, 2000 and 1998 have to be some of my favorite. I LOVE watching/hearing the crowd react to the 1998 ending. 2007 is just insane and the guard work is amazing, I haven't really had a chance to see the ending from this year. I really ought to. I love the Cadets marching style and they fly in their endings. Always something to look forward to.

  2. lol well I really don't know what to say to this but here's my two cents: 06 Cadets singing. Not really a "mistake" but more of a "unnecessary component" because it seemed like it was just kind of there and they really, really, really could have done well without the singing. I didn't mind it but felt like it was overlapping the music. I loved the show (especially the opener) but the ballad... meh.

  3. LOL! I am usually one of the last people on earth to heap praise on Phantom, but this show moves me, and has from my first viewing. It is the whole package without any of their past hangups. Sure, the visual may not be as clean as Cavs and Devs but the difference here is difficulty and taking chances with the design. . .playing and moving at the same time, velocity in the drill, getting the crowd. . .the entire crowd. The small amount of dirt left (not that there is much) should be easily overcome by the difficulty in design, the emotion in the music, the strength of the music performance, and the crowd simply eating this show up.

    Phantom FTW!

Like I said either here or a different post. Screw scores. Emotion should be the judge of if a show wins or not. And they're show having dirt? No way, I don't see any. This show reminds me of Chuck Norris. That color guard member dropped their rifle? Oh, it was intentional. half the horn line falls? They did it on purpose. They cannot lose. It's impossible.

  4. A shaking up at the top could be a good thing, if it was deserved. To put Phantom at the top as a sympathy job(like 96), not good.

Crown is deserving more than Phantom this year by far, from what I have seen. And their guard is getting royally banged. Their guard is FAR SUPERIOR to Phantom, not even in the same league. Phantom should be down at least 6 tenths to Crown in the guard caption.

I think DCI is worried if they don't place Phantom in the top 2, they may lose them, as financially they are a wreck. The people on the board and the director don't have the common sense of a moth. Thus the lawsuit against them in the last 2 years for defaulting on their loan. Phantom means big bucks to DCI, especially with alot of Phantom alumni in the midwest, where finals will be held 7 of the next 9 years. So Phantom in 2nd means $$ to DCI. DCI, although a non-proft, is still nothing short of a business.

I was talking with a good friend the other day who marched Phantom in the 90's. He said he didn't think it was right that Carolina Crown was using Phantoms old music. He also said the same thing when Colts and Pacific Crest used music in years past from an old Phantom show. Like he or Phantom owns the music or something. They pay for the copyrights just like any other corps.

Are you serious? Like seriously? You actually believe that? And that sympathy job in 1996? That is, by far, one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen. It's all emotions in that performance, and to say that it was a sympathy job means you have no idea what a Drum Corps show should be. And that load of crock about money? Please, if that were the case Phantom would have been out long ago my friend.

You can't copyright everything. Someone is always going to play the same song as someone else. It's like trying to put a copyright on the original composition of Flight of the Bumblebee. You may have an arrangement that sounds similar but it doesn't mean it's the same. Just change the key and it's a completely different piece of music.

  5. Robert Solomon. . .this is neither an advantage or disadvantage, he'll probably be pretty close on where they should actually be placing. I would say 8th. I think the Blue Stars does in fact have a much more demanding guard book and it's executed better.

Yay, I like Robert Solomon actually. Blue Stars are definitely over Bluecoats (too much blue this year) and they look really good for getting back into finals after 29 years. I love their guard this year.

  6. I remember sitting in the theater for quarterfinals the other day and watching Phantom and them getting a standing ovation in the theater from EVERYONE and then Cavies came on and one by one people started leaving to go get snacks and stuff for the last stretch of the show.

It killed them to go on after Phantom. You just can't beat that. I don't understand how they're not dominating. Are the judges heartless and don't feel the power and emotion that thousands of other people feel? Screw points. Most emotional and grabbing show wins!*

*Cadets are exempt from this btw

  7. I don't pay attention to who's judging who and all but, I was talking about their performance in general. It's just not that good. I don't get that Bluecoat feel to their performance this season. I don't know if it's the way they programmed their show or what, but it's just not there this season. I'm not surprised at the scores they're getting (look at Blue Stars guard placement @ 7th) because all the other guards performances were so great. I just don't feel it this year for the guard. Maybe it was staff changes, that often happens with caption head changes.
