  1. The concert in the park was tonight, did anyone get a chance to see it?? I know the guest trombonist wasn't able to make it out there since the concert was rescheduled from Tuesday but PR usually does a musical run of the show at this concert. It would be great to hear some input from anyone who might have heard it....do share!!

  2. For those of you that have seen the change in this activity over time this would mainly apply to you.

I was a drum corps participant 16 years ago. After that I have been behind the scenes for several corps working in many capacities. Having seen what these kids go through now a days, (i.e. the corps fees, extensive travel, show demands) if i had the opportunity, I am not sure if I would do it again.

Call it being 35 years old and lazy but i think it is like night and day compared to 15+ years ago. I am not saying it was easy 15 years ago. Maybe if I was 15 years younger I would have a different mindset.

So would you march again today?

Oh man, I would do ANYTHING to march again...I was soo lucky to have marched at all since I had to teach myself how to play a brass instrument over two years before I was good enough to join so I rooked out after a year with PR...oh but what a year! If only I had known how to play the euph growing up lol, instead I started on the alto sax, but I was determined to march...and I worked until I could.

  3. The Blue Devils become so innovative they get the placement of 0th. No score can be found to explain how perfect they are.

Cadets learn to fly, making 2-D drum corps a thing of the past.

Cavaliers "WOW" audiences with the best visual production ever seen by human beings. The only thing that surpasses its aesthetic beauty is the actual show shirt.

Carolina Crown gets 1st place, but since the Blue Devils transcended the former boundary of 1st place, the victory for Crown is bitter sweet.

Vanguard brings a symphony orchestra on tour.

Bluecoats show up, but do not perform, and take 6th place anyway.

Phantom Regiment leaves DCI to create its own Soap Net.

BAC's guard uses very similar outfits to 09, and everyone is happy.

The Blue Stars are bought by the Dallas Cowboys, because Jerry Jones can do whatever he wants.

Glassmen go back to 11th place for another few years, they missed it.

Academy, Troopers, the Colts and Madison all tie for 12th place because nobody can decide which corps is actually better.

...alas! My tea leaves are all used up. Good night.

    :bleah:

LMAO that was the funniest thing ive read in a while

  4. How are you determining that these corps contribute to increased PAID attendance? As far as I know, there isn't currently any way to quantify what portion of the fans in attendance are attributable to specific corps. If anything, the most well attended events are regionals and finals, which are consequently the best marketed events to begin with. And from my experience, the bleachers tend to be filled with former marching members of a variety of corps, parents, family and friends of current members, legacy fans, current members, etc.

So exactly what statistics support these claims?

There are no statistics but lets be real here. Everyone cheers louder, gets more excited and as a whole (the crowd) express very clearly their greater interest in those corps that are in G7. Its outragous to claim otherwise. The top corps also bring the top audiences. If you look at the size of the event based on quantity of G7 corps in attendance there is a definite corolation.

Now, with that being said this policy or "G7" proposal is an utter waste of future potential. Crown is the perfect example of a corps that was once restricted financially and artistically smothered by YEA and Hoppy. Once they realized they could be more outside the confines of being the bottom feeder for audition candidates at cadets and crossmen, they are now competing hard for a world title...never thought possibile in the 90's and early 2000's cause of their "class" status at YEA.

Who could truly say that DCI would have been better off If crown stayed at YEA?? They would be crazy to say that as we all now have another show to listen to on our CD's every year! This proposal does nothing more that create a national YEA with the talent and the money funneled to the "right" corps as choosen. Just like YEA controlled the talent and money that benefted the cadets and robbed Crown of potential eliteness. So, in conclusion imagine 5 years from now a return of the scouts, or Blue Stars comming up with an innovative idea to win, or the Crossmen returning in force after breaking from YEA....and then forget about it all. Sucks right? There would be little to no hope for this to happen after G7 but without G7 these things and more are possible.

Remember when we would have laughed if someone said Crown would take 2nd and have the loudest, best brass in dci? Remember when a newcommer star of Indianna went from nobody to world class in a few years? Great moments like these in the future would never happen under an unbalanced and controlled competitive environment. Period.

  5. I just put my votes in- Regiment was at 1290 or so, Cavaliers 1330 or so and Crown was just over 1200. I checked some of the other charities to see how the corps were stackin up:

Eyes on Africa along with about 6 other main stream charities only had 200- 400 votes already! Not to talk badly about these other charities but wow- DCI really has the leg up in the running so far! GO REGIMENT!

  6. This may sound repetitive and overused but there are no words that I feel can truly depict a state that phans and alumni all over the world feel. So, in trying to describe these indescribable joys we say words like "PROUD, FINALLY, PERFECTION, MODEL DRUM CORPS for the FUTURE, PHAMILY and HAPPINESS." To most who have a passing interest, these words may sound empty of true meaning. However, those few who love this corps beyond description share in an event fortold, but never begotten. Just yesterday, there was a time when a future tense was the default way to speak on a PR victory in DCI alone to hold. A gold medal? Nothing but a mythological event on parrallel to the second comming of the savior himself!

Not Tonight...and thats what I am trying to get you to imagine so that you can see what we mean when we express deep emotion in these hours. A final score tonight of 98.125 means that our second in time and frozen still photo for history gaurentees an eternity from which we can recall a memory and shed a happy tear for knowing life is more than a moment. Life is a challenge that can be accomplished through true and faithful devotion. Life is an instrument with each one of us playing a pitch that is trying to find its other to create some harmony that makes sense. Life is about faith- and out of our faith as Regiment Alum, phans and friends have been rewarded today....never forget.

  7. I disagree, the spread to Phantom is only due to start time placement. Without that they would be at or above the other corps (IMO)

This is Phantoms to lose. The way I see it...

    Semi...Cavies, Phantom, BD

    Finals...Phantom, BD, Cavies

I couldnt agree more with your semi finals/finals predictions! PR has a good shot and the spread is very doable with the time that they go on tonight as compared to quarters. The flip side to this is that if Cavies take Devils in Semi's it will make them the favorite to win it all as every corp that places first in semi's *almost always wins finals.

*1 or 2 exceptions (Regiment '96 being one of them)

  8. This Championships week, we could have another DCI first. There is a very high possibility that the Blue Devils could win/sweep both the world and open class titles. Currently, both corps are in prime position to win. This would be the first time that a world class corps would win, with it's feeder corps also winning (BDB could win the Open Class title) in the same year.

I just think that would be neat, if it did happen. If nothing else, it just goes to show you why the Blue Devils are always in the hunt in world class. Even if they don't pull it off, it is still pretty amazing.

There has never been a question as a DCI fan that the Devils contend each year- a testament to their staff and design team for sure. But, with that being said....

This has got to be Regiments year, the stars are aligned for a championship. Devils won't sweep. BDB will in open class.

  9. QUOTE (dbc03 @ Aug 3 2008, 12:01 PM)

I honestly thought that this show was kinda boring. However, I think they will probably win on Saturday

You have every right to your opinion, and I respect it.

However, I also have a right to my opinion that your opinion is THE WORST OPINION EVAR!!!!!!!!

LOL!!! You sir are correct...that was the worst opinion ever!

  10. I wish Bluecoats and SCV could make enough headway to knock Cadets out of the Top 6. Maybe that would be a strong enough message to Hoppy about all the narration....

If there was a year that it would be possible, this year may be it! But I can't even remember off hand the last time the Casts have placed below 5th....seems like a pretty rare event....

  11. Oh my god...

    I actually ###### myself....

Not like a total soaked but more like a dribble- yea....thats right a piddled in my pants, WATCHING PHANTOM REGIEMENTS SHOW TONIGHT!!!

This is the best overall production PR has EVER put to field and they can actually win....

    They will actually win!
