  1. WOWWW! JD Shaw is a masterclass at arranging for drum corps! First impressions: 1st Movement: what a beautiful entrance. I love how the sound builds and grows into those almost haunting chords. That would sound good starting backfield and turning right as the final chord hits! Can't wait to see how they stage this. Awesome opening and definitely a Regiment sound. Gives me a sense of longing and emotion right from the start. 2nd Movement: Ok...I know I'm not speaking on my own here when I say that this piece is my favorite! Some of the best drum corps arranging I've heard in a LONG time. Right now this is my favorite piece! That might change as the season goes on...but how could you not love this?! It gives me an ET or Star Wars vibe right up front. Such a positive and uplifting piece with tons of great brass licks. I've already got it stuck in my head. 3rd Movement: The soloist and the effects from Bari to trumpet echoing in the distance is such a cool effect! Very ambient and way cool. That feature leads into a much more jazzy/neo-classical piece with a lot of percussion features. This piece was cool and will demonstrate the corps range of musical proficiency. I'll need to listen to it a bunch more times to get into it, but I'm hoping it matures. I do not like how it ends. They all hit a unison note really loud but then it kind of dies out with little effect to start the ballad. Hopefully they rewrite that for more effect. 4th Movement: The Ballad. BEAUTIFUL chords. It builds up twice after soloists play and will be nice to see how this progresses. Very beautiful but short ballad for Regiment this year. Great showcase for brass...percussion play throughout as well which is interesting. They play a lot of notes this year! 5th Movement: A very bright and happy piece to end! It's classical at it's best...I can see a company front in there about halfway through as the tempo slows down. My favorite part is the ending. You hear those Bari and Mello rips in the end?! Classic JD Shaw. Definitely love the ending. I'm sure they will add to it for that extra show boost in the end. I really hope we see a Top 5 finish this year! The competition is so tough these days. It will take a lot of cleaning and some visual surprises. The Music effect is there though and I'm so happy to see that back. The uniforms look amazing as well!
  2. Can someone tell me where Regiment’s rehearsal site is for Indy?
  3. I need Matt Harloff to come to my job and start motivating my coworkers....
  4. Blair Witch Crusaders? Looks like that first person cam...lost in the woods kind of feel.
  5. The next corps that decides to use the Game of Thrones soundtrack will definitely medal. And, the medieval themes and possibilities for storytelling and visual support would be perfect.
  6. Thanks for the heads up; I appreciate it.
  7. I paid the $69.00 early this season for the Fan Network. I just logged in this morning and saw that the finals shows are posted on the video stream on demand, but when I click the video it says: "You do not have access to view this content". I am signed in, and my membership is supposed to last through till next year. Also, I can view the shows from Allentown, but not finals. Can someone help? Cw
  8. I think the best Top 4 of all time is a Tie between the year 2000 and 2008.
  9. Can someone post the corp line up for tonight with times? I just bought tickets for Big, Loud, and Live but I'm not going to be able to make it to the theatre at 6:30 due to work. I just want to know what corps I'll be able to see by the time I get there. I'll be going to the Easton theatre in Columbus, Ohio. Thanks! CW
  10. I completely agree with Granny. These organizations, the leaders of those organizations, and the kids who are performing in the corps represent the highest level possible in the marching activity. They're professionals. They should be prepared for boos and cheers depending on what they put out on the field. They are, after all, artists and professionals. By saying "they're just kids", you are undermining their talent and skill. Kids have to learn that there are winners and losers. They also have to learn people will like them, or they won't. That's the reality of life! This should be distinguished though from WHOM we are booing. It is my feeling that when people boo because of the scores, they're booing the judges for having a perception vastly different from those watching the show-- not the corp who usurped the crowd's expectations. We are also booing DCI for installing and maintaining these judges and permitting their judging sheets the leeway to allow for the discrepancy in judging and crowd expectation. So I propose that the real problem is one of perception and back bone. The Judges feel differently than the majority of DCI fans about what makes an impressive show, but the judges get the final say. This is unjust because we feel that the better shows (in our majority consensus)should be rewarded because that will encourage all corps to strive to become what we as a majority really want (shows like SCV and Crown and Cadets and PR etc..)that level of achievement we desire in our first place corps. Conversely, we oppose sending the message to all corps that we will reward abstract and unattractive shows with higher placement. After all, we don't want more corps doing this "crap". Some will say that they rest outside of the majority, and will find the way I've characterized the Blue Devils offensive. I don't care. This has nothing to do with me, and everything to do with why we have this conflict. The answer is simple. If DCI wants to change the way the activity is viewed; and wants to make sure all corps don't start moving to this abstract form as part of a desire to win on the judges sheets, DCI needs to make a change. They should completely replace the judging panel and install a new one. Or, recreate the judging sheet to further regard emotional GE and crowd response without compromising quality of performance in any way.
  11. This hornline, live, puts be in a constant state of awe. Loud yet somehow not painful on the ears. One word: glorious.
  12. **Bump! Anyone know the music that Regiment is playing this year? Any experience with other arrangements of these pieces that anyone has had a chance to hear--whether by a DCI show or marching band? I'm curious to learn about the show's music and how it may come off to the listener (whether dark, jubilant, complex, or other?) CW
  13. Does anyone know if they'll release the semi-final mp3's for 2012 on FN? If so, when would that happen? Same question goes for the streaming video performances from Semi's. They going to upload those?
  14. Ugghhhh....I am so jealous of all you guys. I was pumped for the theatre experience, but the show was cancelled in Columbus, Ohio because of a massive thunderstorm that rolled in literally 20 minutes before the show was to start. As ticked off as I was at God's timing, I did atleast get to see three live shows this year.
  15. I just bought a $40 membership to the FN, does anybody know if Allentown will be posted anytime? The most recent show I have in 2012 is Atlanta...
