  1. Hey, I'm wondering which of the corps are using some of the new technology rules for this year. Has anyone heard of any corps that are using electronic instruments? And that new rule allowing use of water on the field--any corps planning something wet??

  5. How can a drum corps survive today? That's the question I set out to answer, as the number of corps seems to continue in its decline. The ever popular statistic "DCI had 442 corps in 1972 and last year fielded just 53” seems to provide evidence that drum corps is a dying activity, but all it takes is one look at the traffic through this forum to see that drum corps is alive and well. What do you guys think it takes for a corps to survive today? I tried to answer that question in an article in Halftime Magazine. You can read it here.
  6. Everyone seems to like to cite that statistic, "there were 442 corps in 1972 and now there are only 53." What is it that's made for such a dramatic drop in the number of DCI corps? With so many corps that have folded, what is it that has made the remaining ones so successful? I'm writing an article for Halftime Magazine on new drum corps, and how they can survive and thrive in today's DCI climate, so I'd love any input you give.
  7. Win cash and prizes for you and your band. Halftime Magazine is sponsoring the first annual "Nominate Your Band" competition. Visit http://halftimemag.com/articles/nominate-your-band-2007.html for more details.

  9. yeah sorry guys, this wasn't meant to be an all-inclusive article. i got a chance to see part of the first couple groups, but then we went to the parking lot to meet up with some friends and watch warmups. we got back just in time for Mandarins to play.
  10. Hey everyone, I've been in marching band for six years now, and I'd never experienced drum corps until a couple weeks ago at the DCI Riverside show. I write for Halftime Magazine, so we got press passes to cover the event, and I have to say it was amazing. I'm trying to see if I can change my flight home to Seattle so I can find a way to be there for the finals in Pasadena... Anyway, I wrote an article about my experience, which you can read here: http://halftimemag.com/articles/web-exclus...ps-groupie.html Also, make sure to check out www.halftimemag.com. The first issue comes out in July, but my editor always loves getting story ideas and suggestions.
