  1. Yeah I totally agree. I could care less about what number someone gets because to me all that matters is the placement and the subsequent spread between corps in each caption.
  2. Then the judges are screwed...I know that and so do the judges. That is why we have these kinds of situations. A judge is going to save those numbers for later in the night...especially when it is a show that is based off of a seeding like a regional or finals week.
  3. Yes they do. It is the performance order. Finals week is based of a seeding and the judges know just by that order who is scoring where and how much room to leave. If a corps goes on with 6 corps left and has a great show the judge knows that they shouldn't pop them a 19.8 because they know they are in danger of running out of room. If the next 6 corps that go on after them are better than the judge is screwed. So, they low ball the number to cover their rear end and then 15 minutes later they forget the whole thing and they are lucky if they can even spell Bluecoats. The farther down the corps is from the top people care less and less. The judges know that, so they spend most of their energy getting the top teir corps right and the rest of the time is a numbers management game to get there.
  4. So your examples come from 16 years ago and 26 years ago. So, in the past 26 years we can say that this has happened only a handful of times when we know for a fact that there have been numerous examples of groups that were outside the top three that should have won. This year is a perfect example. Crown and Bluecoats both should have beaten BD in Brass. Crown's brass line was unreal and they were no where close to even being in the hunt (same thing happened to them last year too). Phantom's drum line should have won this year too. So, there are four example example in the past 2 years of groups that should have been far higher in their caption placement than they were, but were brought down by the overall placement, I gave you 4 examples in the last 2 years.....you gave me 2 examples in the past 26 Does that show you that the judges just might be a little bit weak?
  5. I disagree with the statement saying that they did not march well. Did you see them live this season? What are you basing that statement on? I've never been a big fan of theirs until this season's show, but that hornline marched their ##### off. I never thought I'd say that about the Bluecoats. They moved well enough to win the caption on QF's day. So one of the three brass judges made a call and actually put them where they probably deserved to be. That is what I am talking about. The judges are way too weak as a whole to throw a number down with multiple corps left.
  6. It is 2 very simple answers that a lot of people may not like: 1. They did not march that great. If you can't march like a championship drum corps than it is going to effect your playing to some degree or another. I thought they still played about as good as anyone out there which bring point #2:... 2. They as a drum corps were in 7th. Nearly all of the judges are not strong enough and definately not brave enough to put a 7th place drum corps in first place in any caption. They are way to chicken. Carolina Crown's brass line was easily top 2 or 3 but the corps was in sixth which means no chance at being in the top spot for brass. Their guard was probably the best in DCI this past year and the same thing happened there. You can also look at Phantom's percussion section. Easily one the best in DCI this year (as in top 2 for sure and probably should have won), but the corps was in fourth which means there is no hope for winning that caption. If you notice now, you have to be in the top three (and usually the top 2) to even have a chance to win a caption in DCI. The judges are simply too weak to be able to "make a call" with a number of corps left to go on. Untill we get some good credible judges we are going to see things like this happen year in and year out. Did Bluecoats deserve to be in the top 1 or 2 in brass this year? Absolutely. But being a seventh place drum corps that did not march all that well screwed any chance of that happening this year.
  7. Now is the time when changes are being made around the activity and I thought we could use a topic that listed them on this board. Since there are no official announcements these will just be rumors for now. I am sure some of them will turn out to be true and some will turn out to be ridiculously false, but we all love gossip so here goes: Here are a few that I have heard: 1. SCV's Brass Staff is out 2. Most of SCV's percussion staff is out....including their caption head 3. Cavies are going to shake up things in the brass area (whatever that means....) 4. Capital Regiment and Southwind are going to merge for 2008....I also heard Southwind was going to take a year off, so at least one or both of these rumors are bogus Now list the ones you have heard here....
