  1. Someone asked about the storyline for the blue stars show. It's basically about a young woman who is jilted by her lover. She spirals into the world of black magic and voodoo to get her revenge. There is much more to it than that, but that is a good five second synopsis. The rest is fun to figure out on your own.

  2. "The La Crosse Blue Stars will perform a preview of their 2013 show, "Voodoo: I Put a Spell on You" at Onalaska High School tonight at 7 p.m. The show is free, but the Blue Stars ask that you bring non-perishable food to donate to the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse."

  3. I'll just note that Independent World was won by by Rhythm X, 5th place Independent World by Pulse Percussion, and Scholastic World was won by Chino Hills HS, CA,. Each of the three have major staff (Tim Fairbanks for the first, Ian Grom and John Mapes for the latter two) that will be working as design staff with Blue Stars for the first time this summer.

    Should be quite interesting.

  4. Everyone is really excited; good things are in store for the Blue Stars. Hornline turnout was fantastic and everyone loved working with the new brass staff. Each section was above capacity. I'm not too sure about percussion or guard though.

Percussion, both battery and front ensemble, will be quite good. I am quite impressed with the instructors. Love the brass guys too. And Michael Shapiro is back for colorguard. Everyone in the corps is very excited for this show.

The Blue Stars are very excited to announce the Brass Staff for the 2013 season. Joining the team will be: Emery Craig – Caption Head, Greg Brown – Trumpet, Aaron Witek – Trumpet, Chris Rugila – Mellophone, Mathew Becker – Baritone/Euphonium, Brent Schooley – Tuba.

"We are very fortunate to provide a brass staff of this caliber and quality for our membership this season," said Bradley Furlano, Executive Director. "I can't wait to work with these outstanding educators, performers, and musicians this season," stated Russ Gavin, Corps Director.

  6. Music Ensemble seems to be an element they are struggling with, I hope they can clean it up before finals. That percussion caption head is doing wonderful things for the blue stars, now only if they can keep staff on board for next year.

Percussion is great. Tom Aungst is a fantastic instructor. It's really fun to watch/hear him teach.

Color guard is fantastical too. Michael Shapiro writes among the most musical and interesting work in DCI.

As for next year's colorguard, Only 9 age-outs. Only one of them is male.

  7. Of course, at http://www.dci.org/news/view.cfm?news_id=7954f08d-850a-4a8f-80df-f3000ae0ab88 there is a simple error under "Story Lines to watch" :

"In the corps below 12th place, Crossmen continue their fight to move out of 13th place. The corps was a small one-tenth of a point away from Blue Stars (83.20) at the DCI Eastern Classic."

    Actual scores at Allentown:

    Crossmen 82.3

    Blue Stars 83.2

looks like nine-tenths to me. no by-line, so i don't know who is responsible for the error. sure changes the story line.

  8. I agree...Unfortunately, by still using "Teal" in the name, all of the negative stigma and publicity with the brand comes with it. This move has obviously isolated the new group from the previous debt and/or pending lawsuits. A clean break would probably have been a better idea from a public relations standpoint. If the ultimate plan is to buy back the "Teal Sound" brand-name at some point in the future, then this perhaps is not a bad move. Honestly though, the Teal Sound brand itself is really not all that valuable to take this collective RISK in my opinion.

Too bad "Phoenix" has already been used (as in rising from the ashes and all that). at least 10 times as far as i can tell.
