  1. yea maybe that's it. one would thinkt the 35 rule would apply at DCA shows. Think maybe they are just choosing exhibition? Besides, I could swear they have 35. . . in the percussion section!! j/k, but it is a big drum line.
I really have no clue since I have not seen them all season.

Alliance seems to get early season low marks and somehow at Championships pulls a high score out.Last year they were only a a few points down from the 10th, 11th and 12th place open class corps.

Maybe they are just doing the stealth thing this year and gonna wow everyone at championships.

It aint over till the fat lady pees in your cheerios.

Alliance has opted to perform in "Exhibition Only" in our first year of DCI Atlantic Membership. We exceed the 35 requirement with just our brass and battery, and are looking forward to getting our first score next weekend in Tennessee!

    See everyone there!

  2. ALLIANCE Drum & Bugle Corps is pleased to announce their 2008 production; “The Hand of Fate”, featuring the music of James Newton Howard!

James Newton Howard is one of the most respected film composers of the last two decades, composing over 100 film and television projects. He is best known for his spine-tingling scores in every M. Night Shyamalan suspense thriller, comprising The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, The Village, and Lady in the Water. Other well-recognized film scores include The Fugitive, Wyatt Earp, The Devil’s Advocate, and Waterworld. One of Howard’s most recent projects involved a unique collaboration with prolific composer Hans Zimmer, on the Batman Begins soundtrack. To this point in his career, he has received an Emmy Award, and has been nominated for six Oscar Awards, six Academy Awards and four Grammy Awards.

Alliance’s 2008 production will center on James Newton Howard’s eerie motifs from Signs, and will be supplemented with additional music from his extensive film library.

  4. Just when it seemed that VH1 was the only place to unearth one hit wonders, I clicked over to the hugely satisfying corpreps.com to see how many drum corps, in the DCI years, had made finals just once. There have been just eight, with half of those eeking in at twelfth place. One, however, placed seventh its year.

Here they are: in my one hit wonder order of finish, bottom to top. Wonder which unit might become the next one hit wonder? In 2007, perhaps?

    8. 1972, Bleu Raiders, twelfth place: Camptown Races* Proud Mary * Walk Him Up the Stairs * Aura Lee * French National Defile.Louisiana's only entrant in the activity.

    7. 1973, Commodores, twelfth place: Russian Sailor's Dance * Navy Hymn * Sailor's Hornpipe * Anchors Aweigh * Rainy Days and Mondays * Celebrate * Popeye The Sailor Man * My Way. My personal favorite of the bunch, simply because I saw this show in my first live drum corps competition.

    6. 1973, Black Knights, tenth place: Crown Imperial * Get It On * Russian Sailor's Dance * Man of La Mancha * Impossible Dream. The pith helmets, and the dense sound!

    5. 1974, Purple Lancers, tenth place: Fourth Movement from Divergents * The Hoedown* Cakewalk * The Rag * La Fiesta Mexicana * Power to the People * If. This show was supposed to have finished much higher.

4.1975, Royal Crusaders, ninth place: Coronation of Boris Gudonov * Hallelujah Chorus * Amazing Grace * Old Time Religion * Colour My World * Make Me Smile. A glorious off-the-line!

3.1990, Dutch Boy, twelfth place: Strangers in the Night * My Way * It's Alright with Me * What Kind of Fool Am I * Come Back to Me * Once In A Lifetime. Drum corps' Bergeres!

2.1972, Des Plaines Vanguard, seventh place: Mars * Jupiter * Selections from West Side Story * Selections from Hair. Those horns!

    1. 2002, Seattle Cascades, twelvth place: City Riffs: The Music of Leonard Bernstein - On the Town * Profanation * Simple Song * Riffs from Prelude Fugue and Riffs * Make Our Garden Grow. Just four years ago, but it finishes first because, as we all know, what is twelfth place this year, would have placed much much higher historically.

I think there are may actually be 9 One Hit Wonders.

The DeLaSalle Oaklands placed 7th in 1974, and it looks like they never competed again.

  5. Uhhhh.....yes. And as weary as I was in the 2004 post-finals airport in Denver, I still remember her walking by in her green skirt, corps jacket, and her boots. Jeeeeesus. :o

Bluecoats '03-'05 all had female drum majors. The backfield conductors in 04 and 05 were also both girls.

Blue Knights did have one in 2000, as well as the more recent previously mentioned seasons.

Spirit 99 had twins as DM's, one of which was a girl.

    Crossmen 97-99.

I went to high school and marched with Spirit's DM's from 1999, but they were actually two years apart. Jason (older) and Emily Gwinn.

Spirit had a female DM in 2000 also; Christina Rogers.
