  1. The first time I remember seeing Phantom was in Buffalo in '95 at semifinals. What a show! And the most outstanding thing was Phantoms' hornline. My girlfriend and I arranged to get tickets for Orlando as soon as they went on sale. She was going to see Cavaliers and Madison, I was going to see Phantom. And what an incredible show that was!! And the corps has never failed to impress me since. There is something in the writing, the instrumentation, the passion for excellence and striving for that.....sound!, I have never quite heard from any other( sorry, champs). How do you do that? Just incredible....incredible.....awesome......thank you :worthy:

  2. Regiment put on a great performance. This show has grown by leaps and bounds, and is one of my favourites this year.

I couldn't give a rat's tuckus where they place, it does not affect me personally. I just want to be entertained.

I have long since abandoned the idea that art can be properly judged.

That says it all my friend. :worthy:

  3. As a Canadian hockey Dad, I've had to endure lots of moronic behaviour from parents of kids as young as 7 or 8. Referees, Coaches (many donating their time and love of the game) other parents, and even the kids themselves have been yelled at, made fun of and insulted. Mob mentality at it's worst. And I am ashamed and embarassed for those who think it's OK. When I was a teenager in a couple of Canadian Corps travelling to shows in the US, I was shocked at times with the audiences' reaction to some other corps and never could understand why. This was late 60's and early '70's, and I guess things haven't changed much. I feel sorry for the kids.

  4. Bill Cross - Bari player with Lasalle Cadets from Ottawa, Canada - playing "Summertime" in Porgy and Bess concert piece, early '70's. Lasalle had a great reputation for hot soloists throughout the corp's  history.

  5. Wow, these would've all been from near where I live now (southeastern Ontario). I've been to Smiths Falls, Almonte and Ottawa many times, and we drive past Arnprior every time we visit Rick's family in North Bay. The only place that doesn't ring a bell is Embrun, which is an unincorporated community near Prescott, and Prescott is about a 20-minute drive from us. Interesting!

One of my friends, Chris Pye(Marching Saints, Lasalle Cadets), marched with Crusaders in the mid-70's. He was a bari player, I think. Also Monty Kirkpatrick (Marching Saints, Lasalle Cadets) was involved with Dutch Boy around that time. Maybe someone remembers them. Marching Saints and Arnprior Hi-Risers contributed a lot of good players to Lasalle Cadets (Bill Cross, Terry and Monty Kirkpatrick, Chris Pye,half the mellophone line, about 6 percussionists, at least one guard member). In Ottawa there is a group trying to rebuild an All Age Corps called Capital Ensemble. They have a website at www.capital-ensemble.org. Also Lasalle Cadets has a tribute website. There is a brass ensemble called Spirit of '69 based in Arnprior which does parades and other performances (corps-style), with a web site.
