At first this part annoyed me too until I looked into it some more. That was the speech Charles de Gaulle gave when surrendering the French army during WWII. This part of the show is supposed to be chaotic with sounds of sirens, bombs, and with the battery playing sounds of artillery. This was a moment in Matisse’s life where he had a lot of internal conflict, not only with France’s surrender, as he was very patriotic, but also his decreasing ability to create art the way he always had due to his illness. This segues into the ballad “Both Sides Now” which is staged so that there are two sides to his life at this point - his old life of being a famous painter in peaceful France versus his new life of being a bed-ridden artist in wartime France.

With all those things considered, I think BD does an absolutely beautiful job of representing this through both of those movements. After doing the research, the Charles de Gaulle speech/battery feature has now become one of my favorite parts of the show!

Some might say that if the creators and the consumers of a product that goes that deep to convey the message makes it harder to appreciate the product on many levels.  As opposed to say... Troopers who stated up front, 'Hey by finals week, we're gonna lasso that MF'er.'

  2. With respect to judging, is it San Antonio when penalties can start to be assessed?  I cannot help but believe that behind the scenes there has to be talk about the harmonica.  It has been questioned here as well.  The potential exists that, through tapes and critiques, they are being "encouraged" to explore other options?  "If" the judging community is being pressured from within, or externally, will San Antonio be the test?

Just musing on a Sunday morning...................

On a different Troopers subject- I’m wondering if the ‘squeaky’ sounds the trebuchets make is intentional?   Like the squeaky hinges heard in many Westerns.

Nothing more Spaghetti Western than a good vibra slap somewhere in the score.  Cover that up with a whack on a vibra slap.

Is there a thread for them? If there is, go ahead and close this down.

BUT! To the BK fans in Colorado, I'm actually headed to Estes Park right now for a week long vacation. Hello hiking and fishing lol!!! Yall never know, we might bump into each randomly.

Here's hoping BK rocks this season!

Ahhhh... Estes Park.  The poor man's Vail. 🤣

Yes. More often it is the case that stocks will be donated to an organization or a targeted donation  will be made to purchase stocks. Since they take so long to mature, it is not recommended to buy municipal bonds, especially if the organization does not have to pay property tax. Many non profits purchase real estate as an investment. Rental income can be a steady source of income.

Thank you.  Initially, I was asking rhetorically and then had a Duck search confirm this.  I will defer to the OP on how this may or may not apply to SCV, as others have said to follow the money.  I was just wondering if poor investments (lost) may be something here?  I dunno.... seems just about this same time frame, some guy named Sam and his company lost a chunk of change.  Lots of people lost because of Sam and his company, it's said.

Just trying to follow the money while channeling my very best Glenn Beck😂

I heard in 89, "if you're ever gonna march, you better do it quick. DCI won't be a thing in 10 years."

I marched in 97 and heard staff members from other corps telling each other "we're lucky to still be here. This whole thing will be done in 10 years."

I think "DCI won't exist in 10 years" is a perpetual rallying cry for the gloom and doomers.

I do love SCV. More often than not, they have my favorite show every season. Sadly, if DCI can keep marching on without 27, Bayonne, Suncoast, Glassmen, Freelancers, Guardsmen, Sky Ryders, Magic, DeLaSalle and too many others to list, they can keep on going without SCV.

Often DCI, in general, is like a Labrador puppy who sees something different in the corner.  Go explore what it is... can I play with it?  Can I eat it?  If not, and when the newness wears off, lift your leg on it and walk away.🤣

I think the "military bearing" seems to be gone....within the ADULTS. The members seem to still conduct themselves much better than the adults have within the past few years, and this isn't just a Cadets thing either.

My observation would be that this is because the activity, generally, expects excellence from the kids and accepts (on many levels) less than that from the adults.

i've never been to the dci offices but i had a dream about it once. i saw the DCI logo while in a car and excitedly screamed for the driver to pull over. Ran out into the building only to find it was literally just the most boring, white walls and grey desks office you can think of, and nothing in there had anything to do with drum corps. They say all dreams have meanings...

Are you sure you weren't at the Department of Commerce and Insurance in St Louis? 🤣
