  1. Shades of 2013 for Troop.  They missed finals by .15 that year, the last year they sniffed top 12.

I bring it up because a particular GE judge on that evening in 2013 had a score that was so out of touch with the other three GE judges that it's possible one could point to .15 points in the average.  That same judge is on the panel for this evening.  So.... who knows?

As others have pointed out, as far as Troop goes and this race for 12th, the difference tonight may very well be the percussion judge.

I will continue to agree with 2muchcoffeeman, finals culture sucks.

  2. The only thing that is possible at this time is safety and inclusion.  Until such time as the board and the activity chooses to use or modify the existing governance system, none of the other choices will be meaningfully discussed by the voting membership.  As has been pointed out many times over the years, Dan answers to the board and serves at the leisure of the board and this is written into the bylaws.  Lets say he announces his retirement at finals, do you think the next person to be hired would have anything more to say than Dan has?  Not unless the bylaws are changed.

When I asked, I was told that at the winter meetings before last season, the top 6 (as I was told) wanted last season to be a competitive season.  All things considered, the other 14 stood up to them and finally said, no.  When some didn't get their way, they chose to not field show last summer.  Until the other 14 continue to stand up, none of the other choices in the poll will likely happen.

And, to quote 2muchcoffeeman from the recent Controversial Opinions thread , "finals culture is bad..."

As currently structured, there is no reason to believe that the voting membership at the "have not" level will continue to stand up; or that the 'haves" will consider change in the governance structure, and a significant change to the existing bylaws.

I hope that I am wrong.

Yes... and she can't manage to teach them to point their feet. I see dangle-feet all over their videos.

    I said it.

The accepted term is "biscuits", according to my daughters with BFA's in dance performance, and the Biscuit Ballerina.  She has a lot of great stuff on her website.

Also someone in his life should tell him his blog is cringe and make him delete it … free speech yadda yadda but also, like, read the room? Stop publicly commenting on the work of former colleagues and definitely stop writing with a sense of authority about this activity as if you’re still a part of community. Everyone has a right to their own opinions, but basic decency dictates whether we should go public with those opinion, IMO.

Richard Cranium aside.... the bold part is a good portion of this forum during the competitive season, by many posters.

The two DCI corps I am most familiar with are technically BSA Explorer Posts.  As such, volunteers (for periods > 1 day) are required to complete BSA’s Youth Protection Training (YPT).  I hope that this is also required of corps staff.  Some BSA Troops also have the kids go through the training.  I think corps should have all members go through this training.  Of course, it also means the corps needs to implement policies and procedures that help enforce this training.  The YPT covers topics such as grooming and abusive behavior, drug and alcohol abuse, requirements for two deep leadership and no one-on-one contact, buddy system, separation of minors from 18+ members, etc.  The claim from BSA is that such training, policies and procedures do multiple things: simply having this deters abusers away from the organization, trains the members, leaders and volunteers to recognize the signs of grooming, empowers all involved to stop policy violations re one-on-one contact and such, etc.

The corps absolutely must be better at taking care of issues as they arise because no matter what, some will still occur.  However, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Irony is so... ironic.  This coming from the BSA and what not.

for the record all of world class are members, not just the top 12

    Minus Genesis and Music City?

As I recall, both were scheduled to be voted on for full membership and voting "privileges"; and then the year off happened followed by last year?  I never heard or saw any such announcements if that had ever been addressed; too include last weeks meetings?

    LOVING the Troopers' brass sound.

I don't keep up with staffing much, but that brass book and whole music ensemble sound have big cavies/bluecoats influence to my ears.  who's in charge of those for troop, and are they connected to cavies or bloo?

It says Tim Snyder on their webpage.
