My favorite Temps song and title says it all....

DCI needs an outside audit of who knew what and when followed by what did each person did or not do. Then let the cleaning begin. And any new BoD member goes under same scruntity. DCI needs to start regaining trust more than just saying “well we have this policy now” and hope the corps follow them.

Good call!  It's definitely a "Ball of Confusion?  😂

  2. All of the talk of this person knew, or they should have known and whether or not they had responsibilities and duties to report, followed by those who say there is no proof... lather, rinse repeat.  This board knew and should have done something and that board should have known too, followed by more Rabbit Season, Duck Season back and forth.  More discussion of resignations and what not and why not.  Does DA inhale or exhale during his back-swing on the first tee, how many pieces of corn were in the morning constitutional; and on and on.  Yet, Fielder can't be discussed?

I'm being sarcastic on purpose... but,

Wasn't Fiedler a member of the DCI board and at one time the chairman of that same board when some of these things went on that have been discussed in the last year or so?

What did he know and not report, was he part of some Glenn Beck worthy conspiracy?

"... and the band played on." ($1 to Melvin Franklin and the Temptations)  Irony is so ironic.

Hello just a quick thought maybe someone can explain why it is if a corps needs 50 new members they give 300 callbacks. I understand wanting the best candidates but come on this is ridiculous. These kids most in college are trying to obtain the funds to do something they have a love for only to be brought half way across the country for some and told sorry we only needed 6 for your section even though there are 50 there trying for it. It’s crazy enough that audition camps are sometimes well over 400 trying out and most given callbacks that of course cost money only to have zero chance of making it why not just be honest at the audition and if they want the experience of another camp that’s fine but if not they don’t waste their time and money. With all the controversy over misconduct and the activity being under such close scrutiny you would think the directors would do whatever they can to make the experience positive and not just about the money which is exactly what it feels like is. Maybe if offered a callback the camp should be free unless a contract is offered this way the callbacks would mean something not just a way to increase revenue. The average cost is around 4000 for fees and on the average that’s about 350 a week for the season that these kids are bustin their butts to get just so they can do what they love. I am fairly new to this whole thing I’ve only been into it for about 7 years and I have watched these young men and women become discouraged and want to walk away from the activity and I feel if something doesn’t change soon the passion won’t be enough to keep drum corps alive.

    Bingo.

It's just one of the smaller elephant's in the room.  There's a bigger one right now getting most of the attention.

  4. With regard to the discussion about where any convicted sex offender could or could not be and whom they could or could not be near as well as the distance(s) from which they had to be from others and structures; it would seem to me that you would need to know what the sentence structure was from the court who issued the sanction.  Based on the circumstances of the crime and potential plea agreements, there are often times when these things are negotiated in the court system.

For instance, would a convicted sex offender from Montana, with no such sanctions other than to register as a sex offender as ordered by the court, be prohibited from being on a school property in Illinois when travelling?  I doubt that there is a universal sentencing guideline in place.

I dunno, just thinking out loud.

First the Troopers need to recruit members.  For Percussion  auditions Nov 23 -Nov 25 and Dec 14-16 at Poteet High School, Mesquite TX.  (You are required to provide your own housing, transportation and meals for these audition events)  This is unheard of in the activity. Brass auditions are in Cheyenne which will be difficult  for potential members to attend.  Troopers recruitment area shrinks to a small area not known for supplying marching members.  The untold story of the 2018 season was how noncompetitive the Troopers were.  Fred deserved to be fired.   New team has a tremendous task ahead of them.

There is the subjectivity of defining competitive, I suppose; but their average finish since coming back in 2007 is 15th.  And, I had no idea Fred had been fired or that it was deserved.  One usually isn't fired and it is publicly released that they are still with the corps, albeit in another role.  Interesting.

I really meant that he is just still in some way tethered to the Pioneer image through the likely notion that he continues to write their news blurbs despite his imminent resignation.

In the portion of the release that addresses the return of the bus, the writer changes pronouns; from "we" to "I" and back to "we" again.  I have my suspicions who wrote it and, if so, then it might appear that the interim board is possibly not as engaged as they should be.

Agreed. But the assumption you are making is that they independents are providing legal counsel on this issue and that they are the ones who are driving the agenda. I do believe the majority of the board is driving the agenda but it is not necessarily the independents. So... if in scenario 1, the majority of the board says "Don't talk" then Dan A is following the direction of the BoD. If the BoD says in scenario 2, "be transparent" then Dan A would be rogue. Which points out an issue with the governance structure since it is the interested directors who are calling the shots on an issue where the independents should be actually being the lead voice (again, we are playing this out in theory).

From the DCI website listed as the DCI board, I only recognize three as directors?  It would appear there are more independents?  Are the interested directors really calling shots?

    Kathy Black, Chair
    Chris Komnick, Vice-Chair

    James Doyle
    Charles Frost
    David Glasgow
    Fran Kick
    John Masterson
    Jim Tabuchi

  8. Given the circumstances, the assumption I make is that anyone in that room that is not seriously taking the counsel of those two lawyers would be in the minority.  I would also assume that given these same circumstances, (If motions were even made that required a vote) Dan would not go against that vote and go rogue.  Again, if they are even making motions to vote on what they want Dan to do, the votes would have carried, would they not?

Dci has the power to say stay home. They threatened cadets with it

Did they not essentially do the same to Troopers in 05?  Regardless of the circumstances, were they not asked to go away and come back to get re-evaluated once their feces was coagulated?

Apparently (at least one of) the judges almost did as well:

    2013 Judge's Tape

    :inlove:

For all of the talk of getting "Torched" over the years by various corps,  the Troopers guard got a 1.1 point bump in one performance from the "Torchinator".  I know, I know.... numbers management, last performance of the year, etc.  I get it.

I asked a member of their board about that a couple of years later.  His response was that at that moment, on that night, she stopped judging and was a fan soaking it in like the rest of us.  I think the tape reflects that.  Listen closely to the other judges in the background doing the same thing.

"She's in white!  Oh my gawd!"
