  1. I believe this is the place. My buddy who is a pro trumpet player told me about it. Boyles Snyder Co Inc‎ 3446 John St Los Angeles, CA 90026 (323) 663-5363
  2. There is a place in Hollywood. I don't have the name right now. To be honest, I like the sound of raw brass. If you have allergies, wear gloves. If you don't want the tarnished look, go to a sporting goods store and buy the silicone coating for guns.
  3. Nope, not a kid. Marched '67 to '77. Grew up on cassettes and even reel to reel tape before that and I maybe even predate you as to my drum corps time frame hahaha. But, like you, I am in the world of tech communications blah blah blah and in this age of pay-per-view etc. I think it is kind of strange that I cannot see the finals unless I go out to Indiana. Heck, we couldn't even get the darn blog when the server crashed at probably the most inopportune time in DCI blogging history. To have the BD and DCP servers crash (are they in the same farm?) at the same time just before BD comes on and not come back for over an hour? That was awful! My only thread to Indy and it crashed and burned. If they can charge 18 bucks for a qtr in a theater, why not 25 bucks for finals? It's still cheaper than spending a grand to go to Indy.
  4. True, but I thought that was the whole point of the fan thing. Heck, I can understand of it were delayed a little, but by the time they come out with the DVD?? Needless to say, I probably won't subscribe again next year. I can't say that it would've swayed me to go see it live though. It's wait for the dvd or spend a grand going to DCI in the mid-west in the summer. Warm and muggy with palm trees and the trade winds in Hawaii is one thing. Hot and muggy in Indy, no thanks. No offense to the people who live there, but I've had my fill of that while marching. LOL
  5. I emailed DCI about how we can watch the finals if it's not in the fan package and they said we have to wait for the DVD. WAIT FOR THE F'ing DVD?????????? What's the point weeks or months later. I mean yeah, it will be nice to have, but apparently the only way you are gonna see it on Saturday is live at Bloomington. THIS TOTALLY SUCKS!! I didn't even give not having finals in the fanfare thing a second thought. Thanks a lot DCI.
  6. Ontario Mills Mall with some other BD alums.
  7. Ah nice one Doug. Hey, kick butt at DCA. May Joe (aka Mr. Risky) inspire all of the old BD as well!
  8. Well, I guess he saw the light as he played bari for BD. He played a sop for the alumni gig last year until Stanford when again, he saw the light and switched to a big boy horn. He and I are part of a group in So Cal that is trying to get going to play old drum corps music among other things. It is comprised of some ex-BD, ex-Freelancer, Kinngsmen etc. It is small now, but we are hoping to grow. We are trying go with anyone who marched drum corps. Again, he switched back to sop, but for some reason we are not finding trumpet players and so we may go low brass for the time being.
  9. Hey Randy, do you remember Matt Dillon? He marched Fever around the same time as you. I met him last year during the BD alumni performances.
  10. The BD stick figure name is simply Mr. Risky.
  11. I am bummed I am going to miss it and family day!!
  12. It was pretty packed last year too, but no Bohemian Rhapsody.
  13. Ok, that would be cool. I have been trying to dust off stuff (my memory that is) from when I was a music major eons ago and have arranged a couple of things. Kind of more along the lines of patriotic stuff. National anthem being one. Kind of cool, it starts with tubas for the first 9 bars I think it was. I'll send it to you. Also found this stylized piano recording of American the Beautiful. Has some interesting chord structures. It's on a piano, but it sounds neat. I am gonna try it. It will probably take me to the end of summer and maybe I should go buy a midi keyboard, but I don't know how to play piano so that's also a problem hahaha!!!
  14. I hope we can get our group in the L.A. area as successful as yours Tom. It's a slow go as far as getting people to come out. We have mostly low brass and so maybe we will take the mellow route until we can get some trumpets. Funny, I would've thought the trumpets would've been my last worry. Man, we have some good charts and stuff, but not the instrumentation. I guess that's what happens when you have guys with kids though. Oh well, we'll just keep plugging along. Hey, were you able to get that chart I sent you to work?
  15. Man, I wish I were there. I would be all over this! Nice job Tom!
  16. A K-20. Man we had some good chow too! Meatball or Italian coldcut sandwiches or pizza or pasta or anitpasto and MORE! Great little post rehearsal place. Open till 11, but we were there till close to 1. Poor Dave and Tony!!
  17. Hey man, I'm still awake!! Doing that kind of stuff brings back memories. hahah! And having to pay for them the next morning. I guess if you have bass clef stuff, I will take you up on it till I get cracking on my Clarke cornet stuff.
  18. Oh Matt.... Charlie's gonna be there! Man Dave, I would love to be there but 1) I don't read treble clef hahaha and 2) I'll wind up getting there 30 mins before it ends again!!
  19. Hot rifle chick..... Charlie Groh... Hmm tough choice Matt. :-) I mean Charlie's a handsome contra player and all, but hot rifle chick would be hard to top!
