You need to consider personality-wise where you would best fit in. Attitude-wise, I think SCV is a little more serious, and Cavies less so. If you like good-natured joking around at retreat, you would probably not fit in as well with Vanguard.
-
So Boston will be there!
-
Why do they need a time delay? Does the FCC have rules against swearing on the internet and in movie theatres?
-
They should do Pictures at an Exhibition.
I was thinking this too. Seriously, has it ever been done "true to the original" like they did Martha?
-
It's been quite a few pages since the 2010 Scout's musical program has been even mentioned. Perhaps it is time to close this thread and open a new one where we can argue the point of where the corps is from?

I think figure skating needs some field judges!
-
Sorry. What?
google it.

They don't need buses to tour, they just apparate on the field at showtime, and disapparate after retreat.

It's been a while since anyone has done "Peter and the Wolf". and never with narration...

You have My Controls > Options (in the menu on the left hand side) > Manage Ignored Users.
Too bad for me. I always appreciated your posts.
Oh, come on! I even used a smiley this time!

David Letterman often wears spats.
Tom, how do I put you on ignore?
-
We ADDED spats to our uniform for '84, because we felt our feet were clean enough to benefit from the increased exposure. Would have to study some recaps to see if it paid off though...
-
snipped.
Yeah, if you have a decent piano player it could be a sweet addition. Too bad no woodwinds....nothing like that clarinet solo to kick things off. It may be one of two or three clarinet solos I can stomach. But, either they dump it off on a patch for the keyboard player or they mash it into a horn part. Get the guy from Blue Stars to march Scouts this year and take the woodwind use penalty. Now that...would be ballsy.
This!
I think the move to woodwinds is inevitable (kind of like the vocal "Amen" from Garfield and the "Axel Foley" thing from BAC back in the day). Embrace it, and I'll bet the judges reward would offset the penalty.
-
This isn't hard fact, but I heard that the uniform may approximate 1981-82. Bring back the spats!
This makes me as excited as the musical selections!
Oh, and for those of you familiar with the original (pre drum corps) version of SOTA,
POW!

Tekk
Perhaps its not because you aren't a cymbal player, but because you marched in an era and with corps that did not fully use/appreciate the instrument. With the 2000 Cadets representing the epitome of the activity, one probably doesn't see the need or value of a plate line. To others who marched back in the day, or tend to lean to the more traditional aspects of the activity, taking the cymbals off the field is tatamount to blasphemy. It is simply an issue of different frames of reference.

Sounds like the process of concluding that man has contributed to Global Warming, all the way down to calling it science, and assigning the word "sheep" to it!
Consensus and Computer Models.
Neither of which have anything to do with science. Sure, Computer Models are a tool in science, but not when making unprovable conclusions, and then (worse) making policies based on them. Pure politics. All driven by money, and NOT science.
Precedent? Sure...Galileo and Einstein....two guys who went against the consensus, and used actual science.
But I digress.
I use the scientific process (Observe, Hypothesis, Test) outlined in Competitive Inertia. Note that Crown's rise has confirmed the hypothesis, 2 years after Competitive Inertia was written. In fact, they were cited in the original post:

Then you'll be happy to know how poorly this method worked for me last year! I (we) had Phantom in 4th, Crown in 5th, Madison in 10th and Troopers in 16th. Shows how much we know.
-
I use a very scientific method, based on the theory of "group intellegence", where I compile a large sample of "expert" opinions (those who have already posted) and average the results. This makes me a sheep, but a scientific sheep.

Let us all please keep in mind how well we did last year with our predictions. I collected all the posted predictions from the threads last year and put them in a spreadsheet to find a consensus average. As a group, we thought Phantom would finish 4th, Madison would finish 10th, Spirit would finish 14th, and Troopers would finish 16th. At least we got Pioneer and Cascades right!

So, can anyone tell me the difference between a "marching music ensemble" and a marching band?
-
To all of you who think that DCI will allow woodwinds; you are mistaken. This will not happen.
Glad to see that the person responsible for making the decision about woodwinds in drum corps has finally been identified! Good choice by the way, the nightmares about Blue Devils playing clarinets are sure never to return.
-
More likely that DCI and BOA would merge.
