Candidates should keep current in the marching arts, either as a recent performer or staff member in DCI or DCA, or be an avid fan and follower of Drum Corps. 14. Impact Independent Winter Guard from Northern Virginia will be hosting 4 color guard clinics for high school students, instructors and potential 2010 members over the summer of 2009. We will share the basic equipment and movement principles that we use to make Impact a success. The clinics will be held at Fauquier High School on June 6th, June 27th, July 18th and August 15th. The June 6th begins at 2:00p.m., and concludes at 9:00 p.m. One enrollment fee of $50.00 covers the cost of all 4 events. Group discounts are available to High Schools, Colleges or Independent Color Guards sending three students or more. Our clinics are part of a sequence of training principles. Lesson II on June 27th, will build upon Lesson I, Lesson III on Lesson II, and so on. The staff of Impact believes that this approach is superior to a one day event in which most of the information will be forgotten, or a week long clinic during which mastery of skills is unlikely. The four clinics are spread out to enable students to master the skills from one lesson, and then build upon those skills in the next lesson. Lessons II, III and IV begin with a short review session. Students will bring their own equipment. Specification recommendations are available on our website. Our summer clinics are ideal for high school bands with color guards that are student run. These young instructor/performers can learn the basic principles of training in a team environment. However, students from highly competitive color guards also attend to learn a greater depth of skills. Instructors also frequent our sessions to learn new skills and new approaches to color guard education. Interested students and directors should visit our website at www.freewebs.com/impactwg for online registration forms and sign up information. Contact information is available there for questions about the clinics. We hope to see you and your color guard in the summer of 2009! Sincerely, John Burns
