  1. Back around 1970 we were in Northbrook Ill, and the rehearsal field was seemingly a mile away from the school where we were housed. Somehow, Montezuma's revenge made its way to Ill that summer, and there was an endless stream of members running back and forth from the field to the school and back.

Wow, that's the town I grew up in! Shame I wasn't alive back then. I wonder if you stayed at my school... I wish drum corps would come back there!

  2. Hahahaha... when we were somewhere in the central US, an old woman came out of her house across the street and yelled at our front ensemble (in the most obnoxious voice I've ever heard): "CAN'T YOU TAKE THAT INSIDE?!?!?! IT'S SO ANNOYING!!" Our pit tech just laughed and said to us "I think you guys have a fan."

  3. I did this last year. I think he liked the show overall. He actually had a decent eye/ear for things and was able to tell roughly which corps were the best/worst. Also... and I'm not projecting any of my own opinions on this statement... but I will say he had to put both his hands over his mouth because he was laughing so hard at the Cadets' narration (late June). Needless to say, he was not a fan.

  4. Off topic...

I'm going tent camping with my 2007 seat partner instead of getting a hotel for World Championships this year. I was going to various websites comparing prices for primitive camping space and found a particularly cheap place. I was all set to email my seat partner and tell him I had found a place when I read the "mission statement" and realized that it is, in fact, a nudist camp and all campers must be fully nude at all times except in severe weather.

We had a good laugh over it, but needless to say we found a different Indianapolis-area place to camp for the week... we're just not THAT good of friends. :worthy:

    OK, back on topic...

The coffee barely stayed in my mouth for that one. Thank you!

If you went, you might get a "most dedicated fan" article written about you by Boo. Boo? Boo?

Oh man, that would be awesome! Really, that might almost be worth it. However, my seat partner and I already agreed to pay an extra few bucks a night elsewhere for the luxury of keeping our clothes on.

One of the other search results, oddly enough, was for a Dyslexia Institute. I don't even know how that got in there, but he said that he didn't want to stay there either... but "if we found a dyslexic nudist camp, we'd basically have to stay there." I told him I'd prepare my mosquito ten. :worthy:

EDIT: This is my favorite thread I've ever seen on here!

  6. I just can't deal with the synth. It's really, really bad arranging. I heard some 80s scifi music in there...

Definitely my least-favorite synth stuff I've heard so far this season. That part toward the beginning with the repetitive chords drove me slightly nuts. I thought maybe it was just the webcast putting it so out of balance though? I don't know. It is, of course, possible that it'll just take additional "figuring out."

  7. Happy 2009 Drum Corps Season everyone!

Hey - I made a chat room in case anyone wants to use it. Even though hitting refresh seems to be a DCP tradition, I wasn't sure if I could take all the screen refreshes this year. Anyway - it's open all the time -- no client software needed, sign up for screen names is easy or login not required if you just wanna be a lurker.

Can't wait to see the shows tonight!

That's actually a pretty good idea. My hope is that some people will have fan network so other can hear about things in near- real time for free. Not quite the same, but oh well. ;)

  8. Actually the 'phasing' you heard was intentional. And I thought a genius effect. Rather than use electronics, they voiced echo's to create a chasm feel - that 'great divide'. With the guard and marching added - it will work quite nicely.

...all of them? I felt like there were some pretty serious ensemble issues, especially in the opener. Those were intentional effects? I'm not trying to be mean here, just trying to understand.

  9. Maby legands in their own mind .If drum corps publicity and fan base is getting so mutch better why did ESPN drop them how about not enough market.Come on the national spelling be dose not pay to be on there give me a break. The last five years it's been the same 39,000 to 44,000 at finals .You start to put 100,000 in the seats and then you can talk about better skills and publicity. If todays drum corps staffs are so great create a drum corps show useing a drum corps not B.O.A.

That was not my intended meaning; read on:

I don't think he's trying to say Blue Stars are creating legions of fans who weren't already fans of drum corps. I think his point, and I agree, is that more people every year who were already fans of the activity are beginning to include Blue Stars in their list of "me likey" corps.

Yes, thank you. That's exactly what I was trying to say! I apologize for any ambiguity.

EDIT: Can anyone with the Blue Stars inform me at which shows they will perform this? I want to see it if it's within a few hours and I'm not busy.
