  1. I found the old very nostalgic, but I also saw that the new is incredibly more impressive.

Hearing the old charts played again by guys who made them famous was great. The new corps fans have undoubtedly heard all the cds and watched the DVDs, so for them, they were able to witness history. For the old fans, we saw guys we actually knew when the shows were new performing the songs that made us join corps. Everyone won.

The biggest thing I learned was that the show can no longer be weighted heavily toward music. Music should be weighted more heavily, but I found the current shows so much more difficult and entertaining because there is no way that those kids should be moving like they do and sounding like they do.

The revisiting of the 2-7, Bridgemen, Madison, and the upcoming Kingsmen was nice. I believe the activity is so much better now and appeals to a wider fan base. After Wednesday and Friday I was a happy Madison fan. After watching the current Madison Scouts last night I am a happy Madison fan.

In general, I'm looking forward to seeing how designers approach their designing after hearing the crowd response to musical shows.

Specifically, I'm ready for a 2007 Madison show that combines more melody with a maniacal drill that fits the modern demand.

I don't want us to return to the past, but I think we've taken amplification as far as we should. :P

  3. They are loud and entertaining. The run through yesterday was better than Saturday night, so look out come August 11th!

Don't bring your babies to semi-finals!

I heard that ticket sales for Semis are way ahead of sales for Finals. Could it be a desire for oldtime D & B?

  4. ok, ive read lots of topics on here but never really had enough of an urge to post something, but i decided this would be the right post for it..

to all of you who are saying this is just to stir up the pot or that theres no point in this thread, its people like you who get so many discussions off topic and into the same meaningless, pointless arguments all the time. in no way at all, as far as i can tell, was the original poster trying to stir anything up or say that this "old guy" broke the rules. if you read it again, he compliments the guy, saying he was blown away by his amazing talent. it seems more like hes just curious about how old he was, and decided to bring up the topic of other people seen who look older, NOT that hes trying to hunt down and stop anyone who tries to break the rules..

You appear to be a Phantom Regiment guy..didn't Phanton Reg front out Bridgemen in 1977?!?!?!?! Hmmm..interesting isn't it that don't want the pot stirred. (Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrllllllllll). :P

  5. Exactly! DCM is far too stubborn to admit they were defunct as of last fall. They still won't admit it. Can we spell s-t-u-b-b-o-r-n?

To paraquote Larry the Liquidator in Other People's Money...("DCM is dead. DCI didn't kill it. Don't blame them. It was dead when DCI got here. It's too late for prayers... You know, at one time, there must've been dozens of companies making buggy whips. And I'll bet the last company around was the one that made the best g--#### buggy whip you ever saw. Now how would you have liked to have been a stockholder in that company? You invested in a business and DCM is dead. Let's have the intelligence, let's have the decency to sign the death certificate, collect the insurance, and invest in something with a future (DCI).")

  7. One way to look at it is "who fills the seats consistently nationwide?". Madison was greatly sought after by Event Hosts even when they placed 14th. Their history is so strong going back to the '50s and it will take a while for Blue to get that type of status.

Blue is good, and have placed ahead of Madison and SCV, but the latter two have been a force for decades.

  8. And.....We were never a cadet corps. Cap Sound was built to be a part-time corps able to offer time to spend with family and friends, to have or continue jobs, and still get full touring experiences.

The Madison Junior Scouts (a "cadet" corps) melded together with the Capitolaires to become Capital Sound.

  9. Madison bought a whole new fleet (buses, equipment truck and cook vehicle) for the 2003 season, and new uniforms. They acquired a new set of horns for 2004, and again for 2005. My condolences for the "ratty" horns they had to use in '03 - even cutting Capital Sound didn't free up enough capital (excuse the pun) to re-equip every aspect of the corps all in one year.

You're wrong. They bought nothing new. A few very ratty buses were purchased because the old ones fell apart. They did get a cook trailer which probably ended up saving the corps and the members money on food. The equipment trailer was also used...I believe an old moving truck, but it ws needed to replace an old failing trailor.

As I mentioned about the horns, can anyone tell me what type of contract the Scouts got for their horns?

  10. First off, I think Gantang is a troll, and probably not worth the effort of giving a response. He posted this on a thread about CapSound's first camp. He was being hyper-critical and looking for a fight, evoking the old Scott Stewart mantra about not caing about placements and applying it to the new, non-MDBCA CapSound. I don't know what his point was other than to display his own stunning ignorance and to sabotage and hijack the efforts of a corps trying to survive after being dumped by its parent organisation.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Madison's organisation cut the CapSound program for financial reasons, not philosophical? This was all around the same time Madison bought new horns, new buses, new uniforms, new cook truck, etc., so it was fairly controversial at the time.

I'm just glad that rather than seeing yet ANOTHER II/III corps folding, they chose to hit the field with what they had. It is hard to recruit in DivIII, and no, word of mouth alone absolutely won't cut it. An active recruiting program of having staff visit area high schools, setting up booths at local marching band shows, and an attractive, professional web presence are just as important.

CapSound is a great drum corps, and I can't wait to see what kind of production they'll put on for the home crowd in Madison this year.

Insult if you must, but you are mistaken. The core group from the MDBCA days and now are the same. That corps, including the member who has posted in this thread was adamant that competitive placement was unimportant. However, the quote you pulled from an earlier thread was in response to a member taking placement. That is in stark contrast to the mantra that Capital Sound repeated for years. My question was valid.

You misused the word ignorance, ...idiocy, or obstinacy would have worked with your thought, but not ignorance...

As far as I know, Madison did not buy anything new. They did make purchases that made the corps travel better in an effort to compete at a higher level, but I saw the equipment they had in 2003 and it was ratty at best. Do you have intimate knowledge of the contracts Madison had for horns, drums, and uniforms? I don't so I guess I am ignorant to whther they paid for the items or got them for free.

The decision to not field Capital Sound was discussed at length when it was happening, and it was financial. One must credit a Board that is able to make tough decisions. There are very few cadet corps left because they can be a financial drain on the host organization. Kill the host and everything living off of it dies as well.

  11. Actually I believe that while they were "the Thing" they didn't even play Irish music, someone that knows more may be able to clear that up for me, so that may be the exception of the irish of Pioneer.

ummmmmm....I thought I said that a while ago.

  12. The way people on here are reacting about their choice of music. That's part of their heritage and tradition.

Stevie Wonder is Irish? Remember when Pioneer first started? They were not doing Irish music. Their Irish proclivity began somewhere between '80 and now...but that was not their heritage.

Yeah, I know, St. Pat's Imperials...but that changed when they became the Thing.

  13. Speculation is over. Here is the show -
