LOL Though it pains this alum to say it, you are correct. BUT...I was more thinking that they are both known for their traditions and both iconic to their respective activities.

Drumcorps scores are completely random. Scoring is set up as an expression of ratios (like there could really be a true zero), but at best scores are intervals. I've always thought scoring should be on ordinals only, like figure skating. The attempt to assign score values gives an illusion of objectivity and fairness, but let's me honest...no one REALLY thinks drum corps scoring is objective or fair. At best, it's concensus opinion. All to say, it doesn't really matter how high or low the score is. All that matters is where the corps places. And many corps staffs would argue even placement doesn't matter as long as the members are having a quality experience and the fans are being entertained. Then there are the OTHER corps... DOH!

After I saw them in CA about a month ago, I said something along lines of that the guard was bad. I can honestly say I was wrong. They're really good. They've cleaned up a lot; They're expressive; They're doing interesting stuff. Unfortunatly, you don't notice this because they are staged very poorly. Oh my... Couldn't agree less about the staging. I much prefer SCV's approach to Devils. I reallyh appreciate that SCV integrates the guard into the overall design. How Devils get away with the drill they march is so beyond me.
