  1. rllR lrrL those are what I was taught however, you could do lllR, rrrL, however the first option will probably provide the best fastest sound =]
  2. Play with a gladstone technique in mind, Think of yourself striking the floor but with very little tension let the stick rebound so it would like like you're stick is at 180degrees, you strike the stick flies back to 180degrees or even more!
  3. What I'm looking for is songs that open or have a distinct part that have for say a minor 3 or major 3 extra.. each interval. for example OH Canada opens with a minor 3rd so it's easy to memorize how a minor 3rd sounds like by singing Oh Canada in you're head
  4. For my theory class it is recommended that we try to hear intervals by tunes that we know in our head. I was wondering what songs u guys think of when u hear the intervals d-P-A d-m-M 1,4,5,8 2,3,6,7
  5. Today In my first lesson as a performance major for percussion at the university of lethbridge my instructor Adam Mason if anyone knows him, taught me a stroke technique. It's based on getting the best sound. Say there was 4 Eight's notes and 4 16ths from the educational point, most people would play R L R L RLRLR. What Adam told me to do is RRRR RLRLR This is to insure that each eight note is a perfectly even sound. What are you're thoughts on this? and does anyone know what this technique is called?
  6. Hello I just started my percussion degree at University of Lethbridge I'm planning on buying some more mallets/sticks because playing in the orchestra ensemble and other ensembles I already see a high demand for specific mallets/sticks. Also I do not like to always ask to use other peoples mallets for certain situations because many people are uncomfortable lending there mallets to other people. My instructor got me to buy : >1 pr. Grover Artist Choice Bamboo Staccato mallets >1 pr. Grover Artist Choice Bamboo General mallets (Awesome timp mallets!) 1 pr. Innovative Concert Sticks Chris Lamb #1 Birch Laminate (CL1L) Liberty I Tour Caddy Bag >2 pr. Vic Firth Giff Howarth 163 marimba mallets >2 pr. Vic Firth Giff Howarth 162 marimba mallets I plan on purchasing the rest of the Grover Artist Choice bamboo series : x 1 GROVER TIMPANI MALLETS - ARTIST CHOICE BAMBOO ULTRA STACCATO x 1 GROVER TIMPANI MALLETS - ARTIST CHOICE BAMBOO HARD GENERAL x 1 GROVER TIMPANI MALLETS - ARTIST CHOICE BAMBOO CARTWHEEL However I would like to make a complete timpani set of mallets which would require some wooden heads, What would you request for a wooden head timpani mallet? or 2? For Marimba I think i'm going to buy the rest of giff howarth's mallet series. For vibraphone, I'm wondering what you guy's recomend but I've been kinda looking at x 2 Innovative Rattan Series RS201 Soft Rattan Vibe/Marimba Mallets x 2 Innovative Rattan Series RS301 Hard Rattan Vibe/Marimba Mallets x 2 Innovative Rattan Series RS251 Medium Rattan Vibe/Marimba Mallets For Xylophone and glockenspiel I'm wondering what you guy's recomend(I would kind of like a complete set) I've been looking at Innovatives Orchestral series (OS1 to OS7) http://www.innovativepercussion.com/pages/...asp?group_id=46 and also Jim Ross series http://www.innovativepercussion.com/pages/...asp?group_id=18 I've noticed that the Jim Ross series has brass mallets for glockenspiel, and the orchestral series doesen't However it seems that the orchestral series has more mallets for xylophone compared to Jim Ross's I've also thought of eventually getting the 3 Jim Ross brass mallets and the orchestral series. What do you recomend for glockenspiel / xylophone? For Multi-percussion (I've noticed a big demand in cymbal mallets) So far i've been using marimba mallets but is this ideal? I was thinking about getting these: INNOVATIVE JC1SC JAMES CAMPBELL SOFT SUSPENDED CYMBAL MALLETS INNOVATIVE JC2SC JAMES CAMPBELL MEDIUM SUSPENDED CYMBAL MALLETS While looking at those mallets i couldn't help but look at these : Innovative JC2M James Campbell Hard Chamois Multi-Percussion Mallets INNOVATIVE JC1M JAMES CAMPBELL SOFT CHAMOIS MULTI-PERCUSSION MALLETS I also think this is a nice mallet for fast switches : Innovative IP1M Multi Percussion Drumsticks : Pretty soon I'm going to have to buy a triangle and triangle beaters, im looking for something nice quality. also I'm going to have to buy a tambourine. What do you recomend? Also apart of orchestra mallets/sticks Theres also a demand for jazz drumming/rock/funk/fusion ext... I was wondering what you recomend for: Brushes ? Jazz sticks ? Rock sticks ? Timbale sticks ? Marching sticks ? Other specific sticks that you can think of ? Steel drum sticks ? Thanks!
