  1. About Phantom's tone Quality. The Regiment Honrline spends all of it's time working on that quality, to sound unique, and unlike the rest of the Hornlines out there. Early season, it would be very easy to say that the low brass is crass, and uncouth, however by the end of the season weh the members are in shape and in control, nothing beats that rich vibrant sound. The sound model that SCV, BD, and Cavies uses to play is very different than the Regiment. Professional orchestras also have different sounds. Some prefer the roundness of New York while some prefer the balls of Chicago. The Regiment is Chicago. Listen to Bud Herseth and Alessi (Orchestral Brass Legends), and you would say that they are breaking every Band Director rule in the book, playing very brightly, and brilliant. Personally, I'd put my money with Herseth and Alessi rather than some idiot Band Director in Podunkville Indiana. We've all been trained for years to play with dull, boring, introverted sounds because it's easy for our Band Directors to say "Back off Trombones, you're playing crass" We cannot identify good sounds when we hear it. Besides the Regiment has Pete Bond working the Brass. He's played for 10 years in the New York Metropolitan Opera. Huh. Early season, the Regiment Brass sounds like crap, but again, by the end of the season the whole Corps sounds like a million bucks. Steve "ASU"
