The ballad is terrific. Hope you got to see the Amber Waves Star performance live back in the day. One of the greatest moments on dci history. The music, the conducting, the scrims and the wonderful early use of body movement including the mirror effect thru the scrims. Absolutely magical.
While I didn't see it live, I did get the honor of performing it live in 2010 with the alumni corps. It was a special moment that I'll remember forever.

I think this is my favorite ballad. Like, ever. Amber Waves held that for a while, but this is so #### good.

I don't care about recap analysis. All I have to ask is:
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!

What a great season for DCI.

Uniform change all but confirmed?

So it really may be a wild one all the way to the finish.

This year's ballads are so good.

I've never been an electronics hater, but both Bluecoats and SCV just give me a headache after prolonged exposure to electricity effects. Both are great and perform well, just not for me, I guess. Does this mean I'm becoming a dino?

If they can clean that new drill in the closer and get physically comfortable enough to sell it like the rest of the show, it will be a blast to watch come finals week.

I love the red scrim effect so much. Maybe my favorite of the summer.
-
I hate having to use the phrase "Golden Dawn" because of the hateful "political group" in Greece, but...
-
I see a new scrim.
-
That closer drill is getting really, really, really clean. Scary clean.

I'm not exactly sure. I know they taught Cadets in both 1998 and 1999 with Donnie Van Doren being the caption head. I am sure they weren't there in 1997. So I don't know where they were before 1998.
Brass Theater, mostly. The pre-Blast show, 94-97ish.

Yeah, this trumpet section is straight fire. Supa hot fire.

Wow, they sound good, and they've got a dude who can bury the hornline.

Please tell me, who is this year's Phantom '08? Nobody I saw.
Hard to say until August, considering this was about the time that Phantom was being written off that season, too. Even Crown (who wound up fourth) was beating Phantom through July 22. No one predicted that climb over the last three weeks.
-
I would agree it's a little premature to write anyone off, but definitely some separating. Still, lots of season left and things will shift some.
08 Phantom was an outlier.
If any year is an "outlier" year, this is it. When was the last time the top FIVE was this close with such a significant gap to sixth place?
-
Crown was never in the running for 1st place. This is a two horse race with Bluecoats wanting back on the podium. I think Cadets have more punch to their show than BD. One thing for sure we ain't seeing no 99.65 this year!

That's a bold statement to make about anyone in the top 5 with a month to go and everyone seeming well inside of 3 points of each other.
See: Tonight's recap and Phantom '08.

Again, they won the Visual Performance Trophy. And GE *IS* a caption, which they won. No back-pedaling. I don't accept it from Hillary Clinton; I surely won't take it from you.
For what it's worth, I assumed he was talking about Brass, Percussion and Guard. Kinda like "They didn't have the strongest individual captions that year, but managed to make up for scores elsewhere." GE will do that.

Janina Gavankar, an actress probably best known for appearances on the HBO vampire drama, True Blood. Dan Potter interviewed her at the 2012 Finals. Two weeks ago at the Pasadena show, she was the guest editor for DCI's social media.

It seems a little like a visual ticky night for everyone. JBC is a weird place to perform, so you get that from time to time, but it's still weird seeing uncharacteristic drops, little visual errors (late on horn moves, front/backfield turns) and the like.
