  1. thanks G Bass, and many apologies for calling it the wrong name (i know it bugs me when people refer to my bass as a cello ;-) based on that info, i'll put a pricetag of $100 on the getzen contra (plus shipping, which'll probably stink, or pickup in CT) -- but ONLY to someone who will use and makes music with it; it's not designed to be a conversation piece! anyone? that's a good idea, G... if anyone already has one of the listed instruments, maybe he/she could post what you think is a fair price for others who may be interested to base their offers? feel free to email me tim@timsway.net for pics of any/all the horns. cheers! tim
  2. i am a musician (upright bassist, primarily) with a penchant for acquiring old and odd instruments. i recently received some 2-valve marching instruments from presumably the 60s and 70s i would like to see in the right hands. as a ft bassist i hate that people ‘collect’ vintage instruments (thus inflating the value) that deserve to be played by actual working musicians. i’ll never afford or gig a 62 fender jazz bass, but some CEO somewhere has one in a glass case and plucks it once a month, y’know? i won’t contribute to this misuse of musical instruments and history! i’m not looking to get rich or anything, just looking to see these instruments go to the right people for a fair price ... if anything a better-than-fair price for the buyer! i’ll do my best to accurately describe these instruments that i know little about and take offers. i’ll sell to the ‘best’ offer - but that doesn’t necessarily mean the highest price, y’dig? email me at tim@timsway.net for more info, pictures and my phone number. thanks and i hope i can help. --- FE Olds & Son Ultratone mellophone. 1 piston valve, 1 rotary trigger, silver, this thing shines and sounds pretty darn good - even in my inadequate hands! a few minor, minor dings and the bell is a little creased but i think this one is ready to hit the field. my mildly educated guess is it’s in “G.” the trigger is a little sticky (i’m sure an easy lube/fix) and it has a cool tuning adjuster on it you spin to position and it stays...no bumping out of tune! no case but will probably fit in a standard mello gig bag. no mouthpiece. --- King K-50, 2 valve mellophone. someone painted this thing silver to make it match their DeLorean or something, but i was able to peel away a little paint from the bell to reveal it’s brass coloring and the King K-50 logo. my mildly educated guess is it’s in “G.” a few dings here and there (worst is where the welded bar connects the mouthpiece end to the body near the bell) but this one sounds awesome and i’m more than half tempted to keep it! no case but will probably fit in a standard mello gig bag. no mouthpiece. --- FE Olds & Son Ultratone marching euphonium 1 piston valve, 1 rotary valve, silver. very nice shine! some minor dings and dents but certainly ready to gig. also guessing this one is in “G.” this has a hard case (i have no idea if it’s original or not) and also has a mouthpiece that says “Olds 18” in a fairly dated-looking font. perhaps the original mouthpiece? p.s. i also have an olds ambassador regular concert euphonium, serial number suggests 1959ish, that is brass and fairly well tarnished and dinged but i think it’s awesome! not really listing this for sale because i’m enjoying playing it so much and it’s pretty ugly. i think i could actually use it, but if someone deserving (unlike i) of this instrument is interested, please let me know. -- and the big daddy: a Getzen marching tuba also 1 piston, 1 rotary valve, silver. super shiny with a couple dents and dings (one sizeable but looks easily repairable or could probably be ignored). this has no case and a big “18-S” mouthpiece (all it says) that i can barely make a sound outside of moose calls with... how do you tuba players do it?!? then again people think i’m nuts for playing the upright bass but i manage ;-) thanks! -tim
