  1. I REALLY DON'T UNDESTAND WHAT YOU MEAN. DOES IT REALLY MATTER IF BD WINS BY 1 POINT OR 2? A WIN IS A WIN, RIGHT?

As a spectator, it means more to see competition. It would be impressive if BD pulls an undefeated season with a big spread, but I would rather BD pull an undefeated season with one or two corps just a step behind. It's all about predictability in the competition.

  2. I read your CI theory, on how judges appear unwilling to allow a Corps to win DCI unless somehow it was in the top 3 the year before... has to apparently earn their dues. with the judging community.

The corps can't win without having medaled in their past. Has nothing to do with the prior year, according to CI.

However, on July 19th, 2008, Phantom Regiment placed 4TH, several points off 1st place,( more than" 2 " pts here ).... 21 days later ( in the same year ) Phantom Regiment was crownd DCI Champion. The CI theory falls apart here.

The CI theory explains how Phantom Regiment could win by a small margin based on prior Finals placements. It doesn't relate to placements within a season.

  3. Here is a compilation of OC scores accompanied by the date of their most recent performance. The majority of the corps haven't performed since July 17th.

    Legends 73.200 (7/21)

    Music City 70.550 (7/21)

    Forte 67.750 (7/22)

    Revolution 76.150 (7/20)

    Genesis 71.100 (7/20)

    SCVC 84.40 (7/20)

    Colt Cadets 69.950 (7/19)

    Racine Scouts 66.20 (7/18)

    BDB 86.500 (7/17)

    Gold 77.800 (7/17)

    Impulse 76.400 (7/17)

    Spokane Thunder 74.000 (7/17)

    Velvet Knights 66.500 (7/17)

    City Sound 62.400 (7/17)

    BDC 56.800 (7/17)

    7th Regiment 76.300 (7/17)

    Spartans 76.300 (7/17)

    Les Stentors 66.100 (7/17)

    Platinum 55.850 (7/17)

    Spirit of Newark/NJ 53.800 (7/17)

    Blue Saints 49.800 (7/17)

It looks like a few corps may be missing.

  4. I know it's two seperate shows but with so many corps performing I thought it'd be interesting to combine the scores from the two shows as if it were a big regional.

    92.00 Blue Devils

    90.30 The Cavaliers

    89.35 Crown

    89.05 Bluecoats

    89.00 The Cadets

    86.30 SCV

    86.20 Phantom Regiment

    85.35 Boston Crusaders

    84.60 Blue Stars

    83.50 Blue Knights

    81.95 Madison Scouts

    80.70 Glassmen

    78.10 Troopers

    78.10 The Acadamy

    76.70 Colts

    76.15 Spirit

    75.45 Crossmen

    73.95 Pacific Crest

    72.35 Mandarins

    71.20 Teal Sound

    69.50 Pioneer

    68.95 Cascades

With these numbers, though not entirely head to head competition, it looks like Boston has the capability to be top 6. Plus there's tough competition in spots 3-5.

  5. Newbie question: I know that the brass will march leaving a hole for an absent player, but I thought I heard that the percussion line always marches w/o leaving a hole. True? Sometimes?

In the case of Crown's center snare, they wouldn't close the hole for the fact that she's just injured and will return in one or two days. The case that you're talking about is more of a "we can't fill the hole with a competent musician" hole. In that case, a drumline would more than likely close the hole whereas the hornline would put out a memo for experienced brass players to fill in a hole midseason. There are more proficient brass players than there are percussionists.
