  1. San Francisco Renegades 660 4th Street #237 San Francisco, CA 94107 info@renegades.org FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SAN FRANCISCO RENEGADES CELEBRATE MEXICAN DAY OF THE DEAD WITH THEIR 2009 PRODUCTION, “DIA DE LOS MUERTOS” Exceptional staff return rate for 2009 SAN FRANCISCO, CA (Oct. 22, 2008) - The San Francisco Renegades Drum & Bugle Corps, the official drum & bugle corps of the city of San Francisco and a seven-time Drum Corps Associates finalist, announced their 2009 production at their awards banquet held October 20. The show, entitled “Dia de los Muertos,” is a step in a new and exciting direction for the corps, while at the same time remaining true to the group’s unique identity. The show will reflect and represent the moods of the Spanish holiday, primarily celebrated in Mexico, that gathers families and friends together to remember those who have passed on and honor their memory. The Renegades design team openly solicited show ideas from the corps members. The hundreds of submissions assisted them in selecting a show that best mixed the corps’ creative drive with that of its long-standing identity. “The 2009 Renegades design team has done an amazing job sifting through many pages of wonderful show suggestions from our members and fans. Our final choice not only reflects California's close ties with Mexico, it also gives all sections - especially our color guard - an opportunity to bring the intense excitement and pageantry of this vivid holiday to the field. It’s a perfect show to showcase what's sure to be one of Renegades’ best seasons,” said Greg Gilman, corps director. Songs selected for the program include Elton John’s moving “Funeral for a Friend,” “The Heat of the Day” by Pat Metheny, and the Latin drum corps favorite “One More Time, Chuck Corea.” Other selections will be announced in the coming weeks. In addition to the show selections, it was also announced that almost the entire 2008 staff is returning for the 2009 season. The brass staff will be headed by Rich Duarte, in addition to Chris Nalls, David Landers, Greg Gilman, and returning after a yearlong absence, Larrie Dastrup. Key Poulan, noted brass arranger for groups such as the Santa Clara Vanguard, will once again write the Renegades horn book. The color guard staff will remain completely intact, with award-winning designers Mark Metzger and Vince Velasquez both returning from the 2008 staff. The visual staff, lead by caption head Dave Watrous, also remains completely intact from 2008. Assisting Watrous will be Dave Leon, Anne Bragstad, Jim Jackson and Jed Roach. Jay Murphy, visual designer for numerous bands and drum corps throughout the country, including the 12-time DCI Champion Concord Blue Devils, will return as the Renegades’ drill designer. The percussion staff includes caption head Thom Shearer, Kelly Garcia and Dan Hudson. Mike McCool, renowned program designer and consultant, will assist the corps as its Design Guru. Lee Rudnicki, a veteran of the corps staff, will return as the 2009 Renegades Executive Producer. “Given the Renegades amazingly fun and successful 2008 season, I'm thrilled to see the return of almost every staff member for the 2009 season,” Gilman said. “The year-to-year consistency is sure to make the upcoming summer even better.” About the Renegades The San Francisco Renegades were founded in 1996 by a small group of people that got together simply for the love of the drum corps activity. The mission of the Renegade organization is to bring an unprecedented awareness and appreciation of the drum corps activity to the public through a comprehensive marketing and financial plan. In 2002, the Renegades became the first California all-age corps to compete at the Drum Corps Associates Championships, becoming both Finalist and Member in its first year. Since then, the Renegades have been finalists every year at the DCA Championships.
  2. MAJOR CHANGES AFOOT FOR THE RENEGADES San Francisco, CA - April 1, 2008 - The San Francisco Renegades (NYSE: SFR) announced today that they have entered into an historic merger with the Blue Devils C Corps. At the DCA World Championships, the members of BDC will be used to replace members of the Renegades mid-performance. This first-of-its-kind "second stringer" idea came to pass when one Renegades member was unable to finish a runthrough, asking his son to take his place. The idea was such a hit that the Renegades staff decided to go even younger. "Why not get members who are as young as possible? They have all kinds of energy. Plus, we would score all kids of Cute Points!," corps director Greg Gilman was quoted as saying. The biggest obstacle has been scheduling rehearsals. because many members of BDC have to be in bed early (and because of California's child labor laws), rehearsals have been moved to 7:30 a.m. When reached for comment, Renegades President Anne Bragstad mumbled something about frogs being crunchy and then proceeded on to a ten minute diatribe about whether or not Eddie is, in fact, a rat. ABOUT THE RENEGADES: The Renegades are 7 people and a ham sandwich.

  4. January 22nd, 2008 San Francisco, CA "The West Coast's premier All-Age Drum and Bugle Corps, San Francisco Renegades, Renegades Drum & Bugle Corps , concluded another two-day practice on January 13th with the first full corps run through of their film inspired 2008 show; "Dark City: Every Night at Midnight, Reality Changes." Now in their 8th year, the character of this casting of Renegades is already emerging. “Clearly everyone came to push themselves this year and already we’re being rewarded as every step we’ve taken has been forward” smiles Renegade’s Director Greg Gilman. “Everyone from our newest member to our most veteran instructor is excited and grateful to be part of the fun.” A larger, more powerful Renegades Drumline is approaching capacity numbers. This talented group dictates the corps wide pace to excel having already held several sectionals between camps. Their early season cohesion and ability to energize the greater corps is undeniable to all present. One can only smile at what awaits fans this summer. The Renegades Colorguard Caption Head Mark Metzger & Vince Velasquez have the guard running full throttle as it prepares to provide the visual portion to the Dark City show. Guard veteran Al Yeh relays “The equipment work is best described as FAST, INTENSE and AGGRESSIVE - a cool blend of a tiny bit of old school technique interspersed in lots of modern dance/equipment work," relays Guard veteran, Al Yeh. The Renegades plan to be outside beginning work on the show’s drill during the upcoming February 2nd-3rd camp and are still looking for Tenors, Front Ensemble, Baritones, Sopranos, and Guard. For those who might enjoy an early season listen of things to come, please visit Renegades Drum & Bugle Corps for an mp3 of the Corp’s show opener “Prologue to Evil” by Key Poulan, followed by the drum feature “Metamorphosis.” For further information or questions, you can reach us at pr@renegades.org.

  6. SAN FRANCISCO RENEGADES ANNOUNCE NEW PRESIDENT Anne Bragstad steps in to head Board of Directors SAN FRANCISCO, CA (Jan. 15, 2008) - The San Francisco Renegades Drum & Bugle Corps, the official drum & bugle corps of the city of San Francisco and a 6-time Drum Corps Associates finalist, announced the appointment of Anne Bragstad to the position of President of the corps. She will oversee the Board of Directors as well as the various committees within the Renegades organization. "I am excited about taking over the position of President," Bragstad said. "I have been with the organization for the past 6 years, and served many different roles on the Board of Directors. The Presidency was just the right position at the right time for me, and I look forward to helping everyone make great things happen for this corps this year." Bragstad steps in for Steve Proud, a member of the Renegades since 2000 who stepped down from the position due to work commitments. Speaking about predecessor, Bragstad said, "Unfortunately, as it sometimes does in drum corps, life gets in the way. This is what happened with Steve." The Renegades remain hopeful that Proud will be back with the corps at some point in the future.
