While I don't know for certain, something tells me that the OP doesn't qualify for the "older" title...
Charlie, are you a geezer?
First show 1976 I still want field judges Geez

Spirit of Atlanta 1980 was the loudest corps I have ever heard. I still have Old Man River ringing in my ears.
YES!!! 79 AND 80. This is as much Gospel AS Gospel.

Pro Baseball games on TV will usually tell on air right after the seventh inning. Pro football sometimes will say on the air during the third quarter right after the half sometimes

BD easily had the best hornlines in the last 5 seasons. I must say the horn switch this year had definitely made improvements. I just think their books are harder, their balance is always perfect, intonation has been great with the exception of the end of their show in 08. But overall I believe their brass hands down is the best.
Phantom had a great hornline in 08, but other than that I don't think I could rank them the best in the last 5 seasons.
Cav's, I personally don't like their bright sound all that much. They have many beautiful moments that fit that sound, but not my cup of tea personally.
Crown has made huge strides in the last 5 seasons. Last year's brass was much better than this year.
Cadets, always have a great horn sound, I just don't like their arrangements that much to enjoy it.
Until the switch to the new horns this year BD's hornlines in my opinion had the brightest sound. Very bright and high end oriented. I've even see people post that on here in other threads. To me they had the "brightest horn sound" much brighter than Cavaliers. Cavaliers just haven't brought the power in some of the last few seasons (Mezzo Forte at the loudest in some shows). Crown and Phantom tie for my Favorite hornlines in the last 5 seasons. Very Entertaining and I walk away humming their stuff the most.

more important than you'll ever know. Waffles are everything. On the first day, God created raffles and then he created us to eat them.
I love EATING RAFFLES and WAFFLES TOO !!! YUM YUM

If I had a thought that I would remotely change your mind...I would PM you.
On the other hand there are still DCP members that are able to decide without an agenda.
FACT FACT FACT !!!! I Love BD. Didn't like all of the show this year. Didn't hate it either. DID NOT CHANGE MY OPINION OF BD ONE BIT!! Still love BD. Excellence rules. BD could have played ASPHALT COCKTAIL if they wanted to. Corps do it all the time when other corps play the same schtuff. Maybe they'll play it in the future. Who knows. Would it have changed my mind about the show? Again, who knows.

You must be the guy who sat in front of me on finals night ever year for the last 15 years.
Nah That would be me <---6'6" 450 LOL

Sigh! Yes, I know. If you read my whole post, you would have seen where I mentioned the "bus seat" reason. Then I said in the very next sentence that I did not intend for this to be another tired old discussion about why we changed the number max. This discussion is meant to be about the success of the change (or lack there of)
Yeah People don't stick with what the OP intended hardly ever on this forum <sigh> Sorry. But I will.
I think it has been succesfull. I love the large hornlines. Marching holes is an age old problem. I don't think the
corps size increase changed this. I always heard discussion of holes even when the rules were 128 members.
34th season of following drum corps here.

We've all heard it by now............nearly every top 12 corps with tuba lines numbering 10 to 20 members has someone on a synth on the front sideline pushing a single key and overpowering them.
Since these synth abilities exist, how long before a corps decides that the extra 10/20 spots are best given to the sop/pit/guard/bari/alto lines since a guy on the front sideline with an electronic toy can completely invalidate their on field contribution with the stroke of a finger?
As a contra player, I HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE, HATE when corps double their bass line with a synth. Makes me wonder, why the F even have a conventional bass line to begin with at all?
This, when alot of Corps have been EXPANDING there CONTRA Lines LOL Some to 20 "Tubas" No worries.

Do yourselves a favor and go watch the 09 Cadets show on Fan Network or DVD and then I dare you to come back here and say that the drill wasn't hard!

Watch and listen VERY VERY carefully to this video. ESPECIALLY the part where DAN ACHESON is sepeaking. He makes it VERY clear that opening the roof was the MAIN deal maker. Listen close.

While you're certainly entitled to your opinion, I must disagree. Let me first say that I'm a Cadets homer and have no dog in this hunt. The fact of the matter is that BD had an amazing amount of vovabulary. I was set to believe what we all tend to believe every year which is that BD still does what they did in the 80's with an easy but clean program. That is simply not the case. I saw that show this year from just about every vantage point, and I'm still blown away by not only how difficult it was but also by how amazing their technique was doing it. It was extraoordinary. Frankly, I don't agree with the hypothesis of this thread. No one else demonstrated the thechnique to get this show done at the level of BD. The cleanest corps won. That said, being an admitted Cadets homer, it does not make me happy to admit that>
Yeah I have to agree. As much as I was not blown away by this years BD offering It was a VERY difficult show. I must admit BD rolls out drill as hard as anybodys.
-
Same thing happened last year (check the forum for comments).
You're gonna get that...Madison and Cavies have a more fan friendly show...but BD is clearly in a league of their own.
It doesn't matter whether fans in a theater applaud for them or not.
Cali.
Yes but it SHOULD matter. We are the PAYING customer(s).

When I wake up in the morning, I start off with my right foot.
Seriously though, when I joined the military, it was hard getting used to the left-foot step-off in boot camp since I had just finished marching Cadets less than three weeks prior.
I bet Dang LOL
