If push comes to shove, and they really overlook the age rule, I'm available.
Same here. Well, they'd also have to overlook the skill and ability rule.

The ABBD/Cali corps animosity in Allentown was real, at least in the 70s-90s. The Crossmen and Cadets fans in the early days had a real chip on their shoulders because they felt BD and SCV would just come onto their turf and try to show them up.
In '79 and '80 the crowds at Allentown would chant "EAST EAST EAST!' It came off to me as a mix of support for Cadets/27 and hoping that BD wouldn't win again (which we didn't always do there at that time)

Do these parties involved with SCV include any involved in the bingo shenanigans at SCV?

US swim Olympic trials at LOS 15-23 June. Field ripped off & temporary pool(s) installed.
Rescind the ban on water on the drum corps field for one year and make this the Aqua Finals.

On the field, presenting their 2024 show ‘Springtime for Hitler’, Drum Corps International is proud to present Santa Clara Vanguard!
eta - Springtime for Hitler is a musical in The Producers. It is supposed to be intentionally bad. If I give more info it will be a spoiler. Go watch the 1967 version (not the later remake).
That would be an awesome show although maybe a bit too self-referential, given all the other evidence presented in this thread. Probably a good thing you explained it too.

I had heard some scuttlebutt regarding Cavies that fall, though I probably didn’t give it too much thought and if I look back on predictions for 2012, I would probably not had them lower than 5th. Now if you told me in September of 2011 that in the upcoming years the highest Cadets would place is 3rd, they would nearly implode, place as low as 9th, then begin to rise again, I would have disagreed and predicted at least another title during that time.
The Universe will end some day.

This is all made worse by few alumni monitoring the situation who are well-versed in nonprofit governance, so someone like me is kept at far away. Easy to agree that the board is handling it when you don't know what a board is supposed to look like from top to bottom.
Is a "not" missing between "who are" and "well-versed"? Otherwise this paragraph confuses me.

This is surely a sign that Drum Corps is over.

The trilogy was announced back in the beginning of 2022, and 2024 is going to be a show about Carl Sagan, and preserving the earth. Take a look at the 2022 show announcement. It literally lists out, for the unsuspecting and the suspecting, the theme of the trilogy. Look at the quotes on that page in descending order: Yves Klein (Tempus Blue), Henri Matisse (The Cut-Outs), Carl Sagan (“Preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.”) https://bluedevils.org/programs/a-corps/seasons/?programID=1&season=2022&module=info
Pale Blue Dot? Sounds like a great opportunity for Space Chords in the show!

GE does not in fact mean "general effect". Judges understand that it really stands for "Gibbs Equation", and is tabulated solely to give BD a sufficient margin to take the gold medal.
Oops, I forgot I wasn't supposed to break the blue oath of secrecy.
DCI has been "Jerry" rigged since 1973!

Other has now devolved to scoring system must be changed because it is unfair based on BD winning too much, and how could we change it so BD doesn't win so much, maybe by de emphasizing effect and snalysis captions.
🍿That's happened multiple times recently...but maybe without the unique whining soundtrack now offered????....

I was at the show and Bluecoats were really great. Many great shows, and they made it clear they are in this thing until the end.

I see it more as old money rather than new money when talking about it in a wealth point of view. Yes somebody along the way made the right decisions and the current people are maintaining those gains, but kids from other top 4 corps go to BD, not the other way around. That did not happen overnight. So I believe today more than 20 years ago 3rd base is more given than earned.
And yet another brilliant show idea - Daft Punk!

I have come to a realization.
DCI is not a fair competitive league, nor can it be. How you can say the BD and Jersey Surf are in the same competitive division? I think the motto of "Marching Music's Major League" is misleading as if the competition was on a even playing field. You cannot compare it to sports because there is no way to do things that sports leagues do to enforce parity like revenue sharing, salary caps and reverse draft orders because these organizations do not pay the members, the members pay them and you cannot tell people how to spend their money.
I have also realized that the drum corps activity does not exist for the audience. It exists solely for the marching members. Drum corps is a high end intensive pageantry camp for young people. Sure there is an audience that loves the activity, but at the end of the day, it does not exist for them. Much like the various community bands and orchestras I play for, we exists for people to play, not as much for people to watch us.
BD is going to start every year on 3rd base. Cant blame them for doing everything right, but at the same time, they have every structural advantage in the world, from location, favorable state laws that allow their bingo (Glassmen anyone?) DCI advantages such as better and closer housing sites and later gate times which allow for more floor time and more rehearsal time. They have also done all of the right things by diversifying their portfolio (the Bill cook model in a way) with System Blue, buying US BANDS and BD entertainment.
It also seems that BD is going to have right of first refusal with a majority of their talent. You often hear of players from other top corps going to BD, even feature soloists, but not so much the other way around.
In the end, the rule is going to be BD winning every year, anyone else winning will be the exception to that rule. To me that is a sad reality.
Now you've given them an idea for a "Vonnegut's Player Piano" show! That would be a hoot!
