  1. Ok - so I'm confused. The montage of footage that was shown during retreat on Sunday night - which included performance footage, as well as 'behind the scenes' moments, one in particular that I loved was the shot of our Director talking to our corps pre-show!

Is this, or is it NOT going to be included in the Box5 DVDs?? I really, really, really hope so!!!!

This was an amazing addition to the DCA event....WGI does a great job with this type of thing, and often puts out little promo videos such as 'Game Face' 'Enjoy the Moment' 'Get It' and 'In the Tunnel" - I'd love to see DCA follow suit - and be able to access this online, as well as own my own copy.

    Just my 2 cents!!

  2. omg Trish you're so right!! I forgot about them!! I loved them!!! anyone remember their show from '89 - "People, Politics, Attitudes and YOU" Woo! (darn - I miss 'vocals' in guard shows!!! )

edited for 'profanity' ??? i said the real version of darn...guess that's not polite! LOL

  3. OK - so if 94 was the naughty schoolgirls...then 93 would have been the year with the blade line on the tall stools with the long skirts? Was that also the 'Double Fiesta' year? That was my fave... Also - going back even further, do you remember when they had the collapasable geometric panels? They did the uniforms where they kept taking pieces off....and Luc jumped off of a really really high back drop? (not sure if those were all in the same year - I was little, and things kind of blend together)

If I'm remembering correctly there were at least 2 years prior to the schoolgirl show that were very innovative, maybe 3? Was it VP who did the red floor with the Russian flag on it?? Again, it all blends together...

  4. Those were my formative years while in guard, so I had the good fortune to grow up with Victoriaville, as well as Sonnor to look up to! (Anyone remember the Montreal regionals? ALWAYS an amazing show!!)

Victoriaville always pushed the envelope with wacky and wonderful things! I had the opportunity to march with some of the girls from VP in Drum Corps, and they were great!!

Sonnor always had my heart on a string! (Peace was my idol growing up)

I can't view the WGI on demand here at work, and my home computer is horribly sloow- i want to order a DVD - can anyone help me with a description of Victoriaville's shows that are offered? (year and brief music/look description?) thanks!!!!!!!!!

  5. I saw this corps in Reading and I thought the Visual Program was far superior then the rest. Yes, the Corps didn’t march well but the staging was great and the Color Guard was wonderful. I personally thought the music book was weak and the Percussion was way over balanced and way over written.

    It’s a shame you can’t keep the Visual folks…

Well thank you so much for your kind words.

I think Reading was a good show, but I really wish you had been able to see Finals…superb job done by all!!! Our show was very challenging, and I think we peaked just at the right time.

This was truly the best guard I’ve ever worked with, in terms of commitment, teamwork, skill, and ‘Mojo’. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of girls!

I’m glad you enjoyed our program, and as Randy says, hope you like 2010 even better. My husband Chad and I have some big changes pending, and the way things look right now, it will be geographically impossible for us to be involved with the corps for next season, but if things don’t pan out, we’ll be there! OR, if we win the lottery, we could fly up every weekend!

    Thanks again,

  6. One of Kingston's guard members is being helped off the field. She's able to walk, but has a guard member on either side of her, just in case.

This member is 5 months pregnant, and was having some trouble breathing after the show. She ended up in Strong Memorial for observation overnight, and was released a few hours before Finals. She performed an 'abridged' version of the show that evening, just to make sure she didn't overdo it, and finished with a smile on her face! Mom and Baby are both just fine, and she will NOW be putting her feet up and resting for the rest of her pregnancy! :P

Special thanks to the paramedics for their speedy work, Strong Memorial, and Jolesch photography for waiting so long to take our corps photo (we were hoping she and her hubby (snare player) could make it out of the ambulance in time, but did not) and to their small group photographer who RAN with our entire guard so we could take a FULL guard photo at the ambulance! Thanks also go out to Alliance – who assisted us on Sunday evening by unhooking a trailer from their truck so they could drive her up to the starting gate. We really appreciate it!!!!!

Thanks to everyone for your concern, and your help!:thumbup:

  7. A big thank you to Alliance support staff (Ron?) for driving one of our guard members from the warm up area down to the gate, even though it meant unhooking your trailer, and possibly taking heat from the event staff!!! We really appreciate it!!!!!!!

  8. We have competed in 4 DCA shows so far this season (Rochester/Lawerence/Waterloo/Cicero) and at each contest there are 2 photographers at field level.

    WHERE ARE THE PHOTOS????? :throwupen:

I would think there would be interest from members, parents and administration to view, and potentially purchase some of these actions shots, and/or use in Corps promotional materials. I also think it would be nice for those who can’t attend the shows to have access to these photos to accompany reviews and enhance their at home experience?!

I know for our own purposes we would like to be able to send action shots to our costume and flag manufacturers (with the photographers consent of course) so they can use them for promotion of their handiwork! Also, these could be very useful from a recruiting standpoint. Not to mention, a tool to look at body facings, horn angles, stick heights - like football game footage!

Can anyone shed some light on this?

    Thanks!

    Jen~

  9. I want to have a season where I sit in the stands and watch a gypsy tumble across the floor or Alcatraz come to life. I want to see mannequins and the world come alive with colors. If you could read my mind you would see that art should be inclusive and not for the perceived elite. What would we do if there were a season where Vietnam and the Holocaust taught the emotional history to the masses? What would happen if the boundaries were stretched so that our imagination allowed for The Cat and the Hat to speak to us. Maybe one day we will see an irish jig with such emotion that it will make you cry. Could you imagine a night where peacocks filled the floor with their magestic color? You can entertain and still maintain art. You can grow and explore and still speak emotionally to the masses. The audience is not just 5 people with a pencil and sheet. They are children and the elderly. They are newcomers and alumni. They are teachers and students. We must not, we cannot lose sight of that and it seems that we are slowly losing our grip on who our audience is. I beg for the designers and staffs of the guards to consider the audience and demand the standing ovation through such emotional power that a judge would be a fool to put anything down, but box 5.

WOW - I came across this today....thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Grennies are at the Radisson Riverside (was Clarion last year - connected to I&E venue) We had a BLAST there last year!!!

Tip for '09 - when in an elevator with a Kiltie, don't ask if he's 'true' unless you REALLY want to know!! LOL :worthy:

(edited for accuracy - thanks Allen!)
