As much as I LOVE PR's arrangement of 'Amazing', I have found what I think might be a more expressive and dynamic version. It's a Brass Band arrangement by William Himes, and has been recorded by the Central Ohio Brass Band.
It has also been adapted by Brio Brass here in Minnesota, making small changes for our type of instrumentation (mellos, frenchies, flugels & a pic, instead of cornets and altos).
If you can find a video version or mp3 somewhere, I'd like to see it.
Brio recorded it about 2 years ago, but I don't think it's available in general.
Pat
Bill Himes is a Salvation Army guy, so publicly available recordings do exist.
It is available on the BBBC -Brass band of battle creek web site.
I think it is available on I tunes from the Salvation Army New York Staff Band
Bill Himes Band- The Chicago staff band did a recording of it on their CD-All that I am
and Grimthorpe Colliery does it on thier CD. Hymns

Greetings,
For the past few years the Salvation Army in East County San Diego has been working with some kids to help them build their percussion skills. We have some equipment and the potential to get more. What we have is 15 kids with tremendous heart. These kids love playing. If you have a passion for DCI, DCA, or percussion and wanna help build the future, we could desperately use your help.
We need teachers, battery, pit, marching, doesn't matter.
PM me for more details

89, 95...

I was at the show last night..... A great night
A few very humble opinions
The scores were exactly as they should be.
Academy has slipped dramatically from last year.
If you have 7 people playing brass.... I'm not sure it's worth competing
The lower 3 open class corps look very poor... Awful tuning and intonation issues.. I cant help it, I tried not to cringe.
VK's show= possibly the most entertaining of the night... THRILLER!!!
Blue devils, was unstoppable, they will end either 1 or 2. Thier short clip of the Bach two part invention= AWESOME, Thier battery break, frikin blew my mind!
Phantoms show, once again better than SCV's but not executed to the best extent. Thier brass was the best of the evening. Thier guard..... entertaining, but not there yet. I think SCV and Phantom will be fighting for 3/4, or 4/5.
SCV, much stronger looking than last year, but thier show is just not that great. Guard did very well though.
Pacific crest will finish in the top 15. They looked dramatically better then ever.
Incognito, put forth a wonderful effort, some serious heart, but just too young.

I knew madison would pull it together... will be awesome by next week. I'm expecting a top 12 finish from them
-
good scores for both corps! recaps up! scv perc just .2 down from BD? SWEET.
yeah, like I said, if SCV can pull thier visual together (.8 down...).... they will be incredible
-
World Class
1 Blue Devils 75.900
2 Santa Clara Vanguard 74.000
3 Mandarins 64.600
Open Class
1 Vanguard Cadets 70.100
2 Blue Devils B 69.900
3 Blue Devils C 48.900
Wow!!! Great Scores.... Devils almost 2 full points over scv...
-
Poor Boston, So Close, but yet, so far..... Blooooo needs to sort out their visual...
-
Prediction based on last nights show.. (fan network)
bd: 73.8
SCV: 71.6 Has potential to be incredible though, if things were tighter,
Manderins- 57.4
SCV
BDB

I'll take a water, thanks.
It's so great to have the season finally start. Here we go...
I'm thinking...
1) Phantom Regiment
2) Carolina Crown
3) Blue Knights
4) Colts
5) Blue Stars
6) Madison Scouts
I think Madison takes 5th tonight, and crowns score will be higher, but not high enough to take phantom, which may be more relaxed tonight
-
but werent BD and SCV playing at a show tonight?
exhibition, you'll have to wait till tomorrow
-
Was anyone at the show tonight?
-
Thats SAD : (
Same thoughts though, but on tomorrow show
-
no scores tonight.
are they not scoring tonight?
-
Are you from El Cajon, CA?
haha, yes, in this poor drum corps depleted city of San Diego
-
I honestly wouldn't take anything from the scores tonight. Some people warned that the slotting would put each corps in the same respective placement that they were last year at finals. And that's exactly what happened. No corps beat another that they didn't beat at the 07 semi's/finals.
Therefore, scores from tonight mean NOTHING. This also means that slotting isn't just a myth, at least not for the first show of any season. To me, it's stupid and unfair. But hey, I'm not a judge.
Here's an interesting idea, how about using judges at finals that havent seen quarters, or semi's....
-
and Crown...a distant third.
And Madison...looks like they have some more work to do.
Interesting Cadets win with a 71 and this show has two corps over 72.
hahaha I said the same thing on the toledo thread hahahaa, n

I feel ya all,
I'm not judging at all, just observing
from what I've heard about the level of tightness, the cadets were the best group of the evening, of either show...
-
Hey, Anyone hear anything from the concord show.
My personal prediction, with respect to both corps!
SCV will have a new spirit, and something to prove after last year. But, will the staff changes work to their benefit this early in the season.
BD- Expect greatness, have heard some great stuff about the percussion, lets see how they bring it..
It is early in the season.
My Guess
BD: 73.8
SCV 71.8
Both high
-
1 The Cavaliers 73.400
2 Phantom Regiment 72.400
3 Carolina Crown 70.200
4 Colts 64.500
5 Blue Stars 62.500
6 Madison Scouts 61.500
Open Class
1 Colt Cadets 52.800
2 Racine Scouts 46.500
-
just a thought, the cadets scored lower than both phantom, and the cavies tonight
