makes sense. USBands while owned by BD has a lot of boots on the ground here in the region. while the circuit has slowly done some national expansion, it's not at the BOA level nationally. yet.

i'm sure that will offend some by saying it, but i'm just being realistic. it's not report button level

The show should say "Sponsored by BDE" who now owns US Bands. That is where the money goes.

Yeah, to go from three shows last summer to one in 2024 is a bummer.  But, this is pretty much the price we all have to pay for these shortened tours nowadays.   Just glad that the activity is finding ways to stay alive.

When you include World, Open and DCA New England had 7 shows last year. Now only 2 (6/28 Ct. and 8/1 Ma.)

I appreciate this response by the Board, but I guess I’m still a bit confused about why the corps had to take the season off. I understand that revenue is a problem, and one that it sounds like the board has been taking very seriously and is trying to find new ways to bring in revenue. But, I’m reading this as the corps put in place several cost budgeting policies (particularly with transportation) that you’ve now decided you don’t want to do anymore because it’s not a great experience. Overall though the corps isn’t in that much debt since it says that expenses equaled about what they were expected to be?

IDK, this decision to not field for 2024 still seems a bit like an overreaction to me. Why not beg for however much money is needed to the dci world for donations? Im sure that tons of us would be willing to donate, I still remember the corps raised over a million dollars in 2021 for Maroon and Gold Day. Im sure we could match that now or more, look at the outpouring of support from us alumni online. I understand that further down the road something HAS to be done to bring in other revenue streams, but no revenue streams can come to a group that just no longer exists, what product will there be to show from 2024 for any business that might be able to help fund the corps?

I look at one common denominator with Cadets and SCV going inactive. Denise Bonfiglio leaving both organizations! Both corps issues were caused by several of years of prior mismanagement and POOR financial decisions.

New CEO said in so many words that they have back up plans for their back up plans but that plan A is solid and they're very optimistic it will work.

And they get appearance fees as far as I can tell. He just explained it's a "revenue share loss" as a non member corps.

I want to believe in their plans so bad. But I can't.

The appearance fees will be MUCH lower as they are based on the previous years placement. They will only receive what the 17th and below corps get.

    1) Will DCA be a one-shot deal on Saturday, or will there be a prelims on Friday?

    and

    2) The part that relates to DCI:  Will your Semis and/or Finals DCI ticket get you in the door for DCA, or will it be a separate ticket? Has anyone heard how this is supposed to work?

The present plan calls for a Saturday AM finals only with a separate admission for DCI All Age.

With the other DCI scheduled activities, a Friday? prelim show would need to be at 9am ending by Noon or they would have to find another site and go head to head with World semis. (I do not think many DCA groups would want the added 2 or 3 days expense of travel and housing to get to Indy by Wed.,)

The plan for now would allow DCA groups to plan their travel to Indy on Thurs night or Friday keeping the DCA weekend only theme for their members.

Update to SCV BoD (that’s the headline folks)… drumroll please… we talked to Dan A. Other than that we’re still looking for someone to take over leadership.
How many months ago was someone put into the “temporary interm” position? Know I’ve been out of the loop but one of the premier corps having problems find new leadership? 🤔

Why talk to Dan A. He is stepping down from DCI after the Championships.

They will be performing in exhibition at DCI New Hampshire, this Tuesday!

They scored a 75.65 That number puts them ahead of Jersey Surf who had a 73.0 at the same show. VERY,VERY entertaining performance. they present a show designed around a children's playground.

I would not be surprised to see them make Semi-Finals on Friday!

I agree that's it's more prevalent, and like I said, expect that to increase.  It has since a/e passed.  You should have seen it on here when soloists first started getting mic'd.  Then pretty much every small ensemble.  And then somebody noticed that entire mello sections sound even better sustaining when they're strategically placed in front of mics, so that trend has grown and grown to where the biggest full ensemble music impact moments are wholly dependent on strategic mic placement.

Hidden?  No.  They don't have to hide anything since it will never be taken into account with judging.  It's pretty blatant at this point lol.

I don't think most people in the crowd care.  I hate it but I've gotten used to it, too.  Just part of what DCI has become.  Just gotta roll with it.

Sitting in the stands, It is very obvious when all the sound is coming from the right side 30 yard line but most of the brass players are on the opposite side of the 50.

If you are using field amplification then learn to balance the volume and the speakers!

Jeff-  I do not know what is planned for up there. But, a few years ago, there was a request to build one of those metal ‘pole building’ equipment/storage sheds there. Every year, ASD stores more and more equipment and materials in that area. The amount is space left over for DCI use is about half what it once was.

rpbobcat- the Allentown local committee consists of about 75 volunteers, many who have served the event for several decades. They really know what they are doing and the DCI officials who arrive that weekend generally stay out of their way.

Most DCI people is true. The exception is Tony DiCarlo throwing a temper tantrum to the Allentown people working along the track!

Any reason why some corps are scoring higher then the past 20 years?  Did they start later so got more practice time vs traveling time (Noticed that with The Troopers last year).  This compares the highest first score in the last 20 years to this years first score.

1st score 2023 Prev Hi 1st score Diff
    Bluecoats 79.8 74.9 4.9
    Blue Devils 77 77.5 -0.5
    Boston  77.15 75 2.15
    The Cadets 76.4 77 -0.6
    Carolina Crown 75 74.65 0.35
    Blue Knights 72 70.6 1.4
    Phantom Regiment 71.3 73.5 -2.2
    The Cavaliers 70 75.35 -5.35
    Blue Stars 69.3 66.2 3.1
    Crossmen 70.5 72.5 -2
    Mandarins 71.2 63.9 7.3
    The Academy 65.5 69.55 -4.05
    Troopers 66.75 65.5 1.25
    Madison Scouts 64.1 71.1 -7
    Colts 65.5 68.75 -3.25

Cadets scored a 73.75 on 7/1 in their 1st show. The 76.4 was their 3rd show of the year.

I believe a lot of the scoring is based on fewer performance's  and a shorter season for a lot of the groups (ex. Bluecoats started on 7/5) allowing the judges to start at a higher early season number!

After a week off, I would have expected a higher score...The music part is fine, but after seeing what the other corps are doing with uniforms and props, I get the impression that the Cadets are financially incapable of competing with the top tier corps; No shade on the Cadets because either you have the resources or you don't...So, if DCI is rewarding corps for these expenditures, the Cadets may fall to 8th or 9th by finals..Musically,the Cadets have the most entertaining show imo, but it gets lost in the movement of props that look like they were made yesterday and poorly at that..This from a Cadet supporter of 43 years...peace

Another problem I see, or should I say hear, is the overamplification of the brass!

IDK how that will play in Indy?

I guess I am in minority, but after Cadets on Flo last night I was ‘meh’.  They performed well, but it didn’t ‘do’ anything for me

As an aside, they seem to have a smaller horn line than others.  Quality not quantity perhaps?

Sadly after seeing Cadets live I agree. The Brass is being OVERAMPLIFIED. Setting up 5 field microphones from 30 to 30 is unnecessary. Miking soloists I can live with but the whole brass line? What are you trying to hide or overcompensate for?

To everyone disappointed in Cadets’ uniforms,  I attended both the Lynn and Quincy shows.  The uniforms read very well on the field and are completely appropriate the theme of the show.  The traditional uniform would not have worked.  Oh, and they sound great.

After seeing them this weekend both up close in Lynn and from the top row in Quincy, I have to disagree.  I can understand the athletic idea but to me those uni's look as if they just got off the floor after 8 hours of sleeping in them. The jackets starting off look good but after a while in the show read rather sloppy! The leggings/tights are showing inconsistent  ankle exposure from member to member.

Maybe it's me but do the Cadets props always have to look:soapbox: so cheap? These props appear straight from Home Depot.

And after seeing them in Ma. last night, the uniforms/costumes look like they were purchased at Walmart for under $10 !

it's not just numbers management. it's why the numbers are as they are and what needs to happen to have those numbers given out. See any 9's tonight? hell no. and i am sure the commentary given reflects how the judge landed at the number given.

it's rare because that in essence means they performed what they were given so well that they could have tried more.

why do comp scres change? as things get cleaner, the judge can see more inner details to raise the number and be rewarded. you're able to get those finer details....say a leg turn and hey the ankle does too! or holy cow listen to the inner phrase dynamic shifting between the voices! first read you'll never get those details.

slotting accusations have always happened and will, just as you see biased officiating claims in every sport known to man

A little surprised that a couple of judges last night had high 7's in some subcaptions
