Hopefully will get a chance to head to Oxford to check out Cadets' camp there in late May/early June. Not far from where my fiancee lives.

I've never been to a move-in "spring training" camp... Cadets or anyone else. For those who have, is there a best time to stop in... day or evening, whatever?

Typically its stretching exercises after breakfast, then sectionals throughout the day around the campus. Then after dinner, its typically all hands on deck, all sections, on the field under the lights for full Corps rehearsals there. But... of course, not every day is the same. I'd suggest following the Corps daily schedule that is usually posted on the Corps website off a chalkboard. Hop used to post that for Cadets, if not mistaken. Maybe those aligned with Cadets might add helpful suggestions as to how it pertains to this years Cadets expected routine however. Its fun to go in any event. You'll probably enjoy it.

Actually, the performance in Florida yesterday was the feeder corps..unofficially know as the Valiants.  BAC is actually in Castleton already.

Shovels and brooms were handed out to the Corps to shovel 2 feet of new snow off the field there this weekend. They accomplished a lot with the shoveling ( Boston brought a plow along to speed up the process), and the field up there looks pretty spiffy and ready to go now, its being reported.

  3.  We can all predict with a high level of certainty that most fans will believe that the DCI judges that will score their favorite Corps well this season in shows were highly competent, unbiased, professionals, while those judges that scored their favorite Corps below what other judges have in shows, are mouth breathing, biased, incompetent, no good ########,  that don't have a ####### clue what they're doing, and we should  ####  and then #######  and then #### #### #### and once more for good measure #### #### #### , and thats enough of these ######## as you probably get the point by now with THAT judge  .

I think that's why I still enjoy DCA as much as I do. I find the majority of the shows to be more directed towards entertaining the audience than to wowing the judges. And don't get me wrong, I still love DCI. Even marching, I found DCA to be more fun and crowd oriented than DCI.

You are not alone. Its not unusual for me to find highly entertaining shows that kept my interest even from the Open Class Division of DCI. My enjoyment of shows levels is rarely predicated on placements. If I list my favorite... oh I don't know... favorite 25-30 shows of all time, the numbers of Corps in that 25-30 that actually won a Title that season would probably be less than half of them. Its no slight on the Title winners either, as much of the time ( but not always of course.. haha ) I'll actually agree with the judges that the best Corps out on that field was who they thought was the best Corps in the competition.

If the "wave of the future" is following WGI trends, those corps whose attire fits the theme should get a score boost.

Although Costuming does not have its own caption on the current DCI sheets ( I believe that in the future, it likely will )  I suppose its indirectly found now on the current GE Visual caption, where the Corps attire can be awarded build up points there by the judge if they believe the costuming successfully added to the overall effect of the show's impressions upon that judge.

If a person is a true competitor, one of dignity and honor, one who sees the real value in competing against the best in the world, it would be far more, infinitely more, rewarding to finish 9th against them than 1st without them. Just sayin'.

True. It was also refreshing to see DCI Finally allow Open Class Corps to compete at Prelims vs. World Class Corps several years back too, imo. With this, we found that World Class Corps that believed they were for example the " 14th best Corps " in DCI, were actually maybe the 15th or 16th best Corps that season. Open Class Champions ( and sometimes runners up ) as a result, found even more rewarding moments with this ie... not only that they were the best in their Open Class Division that season, but they were also better that season than quite a few of the Corps that in earlier years had been placed in the higher Division by DCI HQ.....  in the World Class Division. Without allowing such access, it was only mere speculation alone as to how an Open Class Corps might fare vs. these World Class Div. Corps.

Since corps do theme shows, I believe everything designed and performed should relate to the theme.  If it doesn't, the score should take a hit.

In this " everything designed " belief, sounds like you prefer the costume themed designed unis and headgear over the same traditional unis / shakos to be worn each season then...   For example. playing  songs from the Musical " Hair ", ie 'Aquarius " in a military styled uniform like the Troopers have and a DM with a holster, etc would need to have " their score take a hit ",  in your view.  Would that be your thinking, Ghost ? Just asking, thats all.

  8.  The thing is, apart from our favorite corps or what not, I believe most fans want to be entertained. I mean, which is a more successful year with a fan... a Corps that finished say 21st that was highly entertaining we thought, or a Corps that finished much higher, but really , the show didn't engage us much at all ?  In the end, the Corps that finished higher typically become easily forgettable for us if their show, despite good scores from the judges, was a meh for us. . Don't get me wrong. Placements are indeed important. VERY Important. But good grief, its the captivating shows that will be most remembered years later by most fans, imo,  not so much the placements that season. So as we go about these placement predictions for this season, and hope our favorite Corps or Corps get better scores and placements from the DCI judges this season, lets not forget the importance to fans of finding shows engaging and captivating, no matter what the judges might think. I 'll let the judges determine who is " better " among the tier groups. That is in their domain. I've got no control over that. But I control as a fan what shows I liked and preferred. Thats in my domain. Not the judges domain.  Judges get to decide " who's better/ best ". We fans get to decide " likes/ prefers ":. This is as it should be too, imo

I had originally had a sentence about this NOT being about the Tour of Champions or G7, but suspected there was a filter on the website prohibiting mentioning those terms, thus sending the post into 403 Forbidden limbo. So I removed it.

No harm.. no foul. I really thought it was not your intent, but glad to hear you confirm it now.

Very true. I would, however, love to see SOA back in the top 12 again. I've heard some good (if not very general and vague,) things from camp reports.

Yes.. They could shake things up. Its possible. They rebounded pretty nicely last season, and the changes made there have seemingly helped them. So we'll see. Music City might be another Corps, not currently in the Top 12, that might improve over last season. They might be able to capitalize on their  2018 show being a big hit for marchers and audiences alike. So they bear watching, to at least move up in placement anyway... and there is always Madison Scouts, with lots of staff changes there, that might lift them placement wise as well. Lots of intrigiung possibilities here, ... up and down the current pecking order in DCI.

  11.  Mandarins to remain in Top 12 for 2019 as well ( my prediction).. Its not unusual for a Corps to make Top 12 for their first time, then slide back out. But I view the Mandarins has having figured out the sheets well of late, and they have a good design staff there. So I think they stay in, so we'll see what happens.

Will we see a new Corps in the Top 12 for 2019 that was not there last season ? Its certainly possible. We know so little about all these Corps at this stage. But my hunch is that " no ", we won't see a Corps replacement over last season in the Top 12 this summer. But who really knows. Time will tell.

I’ve tried to PM you but can’t get through.  3 times and a 500 error message each time.  More to add from my earlier note.

I seem to be getting my PM's ok. Got them last nite and this morning so far from DCP'ers ok, LabMaster. I'll reach out to you another way. Chat with you soon.. take care.

    nice try G7

lol !... not sure that was the OP's intent, but yes, it inadvertently perhaps sort of fell together that way a bit in the 2 groupings... haha!

Madison Scouts were not part of the original G7 plan... there are 8 here. But its darn close to the original G7 in this first A grouping.

I would not want to speculate on who would win, nor place where, in the Class B group... its a fantasy grouping by now anyway, and would never happen to even give it much thought any more on who would be the winner, nor the remaining Top 12  in that particular fantasy division any more.

Many is a very different word than "most" or "all".  In any case my initial comment is obviously true since you keep trying to throw a bucket of cold water on that comment (indeed on any comment which suggests that the Cavies (or anyone corps besides the Blue Devils) could be better than your beloved Florida Crusaders).     Stop trying to be subtle -- you're terrible at it.   If you want to bash your competitors, at least be honest about it.

Don't bother replying -- I can't be bothered to read your nonsense.  Now where's that ignore button...

lol... calm down there Cowboy, your horse has too much giddy up, and you're scaring the poor thing with too much kick with that whip of yours, and its about to become a runaway on you.

I stated the Cavaliers had as good a shot as winning the Ott Award as much as " any Corps ", as there has been such a lack of info on " most of these Corps ". There was no" bash "at all in my comments toward the Cavaliers here, nor on any other Corps for that matter. You were terrible at interpreting my comments here. I'll let others decide if there was  ANY attempt my me, subtle or otherwise, to hurt or" bash" any Corps with my comments above. If you want to ignore me as a poster, feel free to do so. But don't claim its because I was about the business to diminish in any way, or " bash " any Corps on this thread. Thats just blatantly untrue and  just ridiculous, and .." lets at least be honest about it "... lol!

You can certainly speak for what you think but it might be a small reach (giant leap?) for you to speak for large groups of people .   .

Actually, if I read your initial comment above correctly, it is You that stated on here above that it is your belief that ( your words ) " The Cavaliers brass line is being overlooked by MANY ".   ... lol!!

  16. 21 minutes ago, karuna said:

.   IMO Cavies brass is being overlooked by many.

I'm not sure we've really had much discussion here ( or seen on other social media ) to conclude that the 2019 Cavies Brass line " is being overlooked by many ". I mean, ;lets face it, very few of us here or elsewhere know much about the Cavies 2019 Brass line, nor for that matter, any of the other DCI Corps Brass lines right now.. Theres such little info out there on these Corps brass lines in the off season, that its  quite easy to " overlook " ANY Corps brass line for this upcoming summer's brass line competitions at the moment, imo. The Cavies brass line finished 7th last season. Is it possible for them to move up from 7th to 1st and win the Ott for Best Brass Line in DCI this summer ? It'll be a challenge, but sure, why not .

Exactly. I would argue moving from 6th to 4th is many times easier than moving from 4th to 3rd.

...and taking this one step further, . ie, where it gets the hardest of all.. in today's modern DCI, its really difficult for ANY DCI  Corps in DCI to finish ahead of the Blue Devils 2 years in a row.
