  1. Still have not seen all of the guards, so I will wait until I do before commenting...

However - although they look beautiful, Phantom's guard easily has one of the easiest books I have seen in a top 12 drum corps in an extremely long time - possibly ever. I am also bothered that they don't use any rifles in their show - it seems to add to the reduced complexity, in my opinion.

How they are scoring close to other guards is a mystery. I think this will hurt them in the long term.

  2. Blue Knights will definitely be in finals.

I predict they will place NO LOWER than 10th place. If they place lower, I will donate $250.00 to the Corps that beats them to the 10th place spot (or lower).

For example, if The Colts come in 10th and BK in 11th, I will send The Colts $250.00 If BK finishes 12th and The Glassmen place 10th and the Crossmen in 11th, my checking account will be $500 lighter and 2 corps will be $250.00 heavier.

Putting money where my mouth (and mind) are!

    :)

    I am 100% serious.

  3. 1. Minnesota Brass

    2. Buccaneers

    3. Hurricanes

    4. Statesmen

    5. Caballeros

    6. Alliance

    7. Renegades

    8. CorpsVets

    9. Tampa Thunder

    10. Kilties

    11. Bushwackers

    CLASS A

    1. Fusion Core

    2. Govenaires

    3. White Sabers

    4. Carolina Gold

EDITED: I am very sorry, I did not meet to offend anyone by suggesting that Bushwackers won't be at finals. I was going off second-hand info that they only had a handful of brass. I DEFINITELY hope they make finals!

  4. I'm pretty sure that's been talked about and addressed. I'm so impressed with Fred and Co. for their approach to the corps' performance from season to season. I've got my money on "huge guard improvement" for this year.

I hope their guard is bigger than the pictures make them look.

    I like their uniforms!

  5. Bold-ish Predictions:

Blue Stars will not finish in the top 8, and get kicked out of the G8

    Teal will make finals

At least one corps (could be World or Open, or both!) will have to have an immediate, urgent fundraising campaign DURING the season - if the announced goal is not met, the corps will stop touring mid-season

1st and 2nd place will be separated by less than 0.04 points

  6. This is an epic, epic win. I haven't always been the biggest Hopkins fan, but I won't let that cloud my perspective.

    Another corps for DCA.... WIN

A more affordable option for youth to participate in drum corps... WIN

    I am excited about this.

    Way to go YEA!

  7. Definitely saw rude behavior at WGI this year. However, I witnessed way more examples of guards being kind and polite.

Below are a few of the guards who I saw acting with grace:

    West Johnston

    Mineola

    Alter Ego

    Westerville

    Americas

I dont like to mention guards by name, but the above 5 I saw do really nice things. A special shout out to Americas - I sat near a group of their performers during prelims or semis (cant remember) and after every show every one of them said one or two things that they liked.

If I was a billionaire, I would give WGI a million dollars if they banned people from screaming "GET IT...." at shows. I hate that.

I am already excited for WGI next year!

  8. For the record, The Bushwackers had absolutely nothing to do with the video production that was shown on the big screen.

Im not even sure if the company comes from the East coast, So lets not jump to the conclusion that this was some type of DCA masterminded plot to stick it to the "evil" ones from San Francisco one last time on Sunday evening. We have enough trouble getting that secret "screw the southern drumlines" meeting set up every September.

To be fair, I heard Bushwackers placed a voodoo curse on the Renegades. Muhahahahaha. I kid, I kid.

I didn't mean to imply that Bush had anything to do with it - just pointing it out. (To head off the "there isn't time for every corps" arguement).

Again, this isn't whinning - but just trying to show why some people might feel the way they do. It's not fun to feel unwelcome. I'm not saying that anyone tried to make anyone feel unwelcome, but help explain why some might feel that way.

PS - I hope that the screw the southern drumline meeting gets moved to Chicago this year. I want some good pizza.

  9. No Renegades I spoke to were angry - disappointed, yes. confused, yes. but angry? No.

    Just for some perspective...

At the beginning of retreat they showed a video that had highlights of the whole week. Tons of corps were featured. I'm not sure if everyone was included (there were TONS of Bushwacker clips), but the Renegades were not. Not even one clip.

Couple that with a disappointing placement, and you can't help but feel a little bit like the kid at the party that isn't really welcome.

Again, I want to be perfectly clear - I spoke to MANY Renegades and no one was angry and no one spoke poorly of other corps.
