Nice brass sound. My only pet peeve is drill for first half of show seems confined to within 25 yd line.
Yeah.... was really noticeable coming after Boston's big-time field coverage.

Great show from Bloo. But a great example of a perfectly wonderful Drum Corps show is messed up with amps, goo and pre-recorded non-sense.

That solo was obviously micced. I see no reason for that, especially when the equipment fails like it just did.
Now we have a perfect example of the problem with mic'd soloist.

When the Scouts sing, maybe the decrescendo-crescendo is deliberate, but it sounds like they're running out of breath.
I think that is the weakest part of their show and wish they would change it. It really interrupts the flow of the program.

Nice field coverage from Scouts.

I may not be a fan of this particular show, but they have really cleaned it up and I think they will have no trouble remaining in the top 12. Good job Blue Stars.

I want to take an ax and a torch to that scaffolding.

I really love Spirit's show this year and they are really executing it well. The last 3rd doesn't work as well as the rest but it still an amazing and fun show.

Yup yup :( Comcast cant help
I feel your pain. Just saw them listed #3 most hated company in America.

Well, I marched at Suncoast where the east was the enemy. There was regional bias, but little community pride (state pride, yes, as we had members from all over Florida). But there was a giant Yellow Brick Road that led out of Florida to Northern California. It's a road I traveled happily.
I would assume you did so with considerable expense to either yourself or parents?

Drum corps hasn't been that way in over 30 years, and probably longer.
And yet we wonder why there are so fewer corps and so fewer fans.
-
Absolutely, but even Crossmen had troubles when they first showed up in Texas. The Bluecoats benefited greatly from doing winter camps in Texas starting in the early 2000s. I think it's safe to say that Bluecoats found a way around competing with all those midwest corps for members by recruiting and getting staff from Texas, and they wouldn't be where they are now without having made that move. Same could be said with Boston Crusaders and Florida. The corps that have been left behind are the ones that have failed to recruit at a national level. I won't name names.
So right.... one the the things that has bugged me about my fellow Texans is that if they can't win at something they don't want to participate at all. Which is why I think so many are willing to travel so far to be members in top level corps. Hopefully this can change with an improving Crossmen leading the way.

Always baffled me too.
"Yup. Hard to believe it's been so difficult for Texas to field a competitive drum corps for the last 20 years, since so many Texas kids are in DCI. "
It is probably going to take other corps relocating like Crossmen did. There are corps that are having trouble recruiting members that might look at the massive population increases in Texas and see a way to stability. Not to mention being able to work outside during winter camps. I hate the idea of poaching a corps from another area, but I think we may be watching a corps that could benefit from relocating to Texas.

This is a throwback closer, almost has an '80s Freelancers vibe to it.
Thanks for pointing that out... it felt somewhat familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it. There is a lot of potential in Colts show this year.

I CAN'T WAIT for San Antonio, the home crowd is going to go NUTS for this and I'll be right in the middle of that madness!!!!!
I'll be there too.... broken foot or not. I will just have to drag myself up those stairs because I don't want to miss Crossmen live. They need to clean visual... but they absolutely have the show to get back in finals. Iron cross just made scream so loud I frightened the dog.

This argument back and forth about the lack of demand in Blue Devils visual program is the same every year... ironically with almost the same result.

With apologies to all of the fan-boys trying to make Crown's show about super-heroes. I see it as something a little more profound than Wonderwoman or Spiderman. The show is about what the title infers.... individuals coming together to achieve something for the good of all. The Common Good. There is nothing common about a super hero. Scouts did a super hero show a few years ago and it was bad. If it does turn out to be about super heroes I will eat my cape.

Madison is no surprise, they have been improving consistently for the past two years, and have great staff. Spirit is a little more of a surprise, but they had a great year last year and have a thrillingly entertaining show this year. Similarly Xmen had an amazing show last year and are no surprise to be on the upswing. Cavies' drop is a surprise, but only because of the reputation. I don't think the judges have it wrong.
Are the sheets making a difference? I'm not sure. I feel like I'm seeing more corps outperforming their books (ie getting a better performance than rep subcaption score) than we usually do, but that's just my impression and maybe isn't correct. I also feel like certain judges are more likely to flip the scores' typical relationship, so maybe some judges are reading the new sheets differently than others.
By improving consistently were you referring to a move from 10th in 2010 to 10th 2011?
I know I will bet tons of hate for pointing this out, but that sounds more like stagnation than "improving consitently for the past two years".

c"Madison Scouts drum major Sean Hadley said his corps’ 2012 production has been coming right along, with a couple more additions and changes in store for the near future.
"We have a few over the last week that we've been implementing," he said. "And there are a few more on the way that we’ll put in leading up to the Minneapolis regional next Saturday. We're looking to really burst out of the gate there and show the drum corps activity that Madison is back in a big way."
Drum major Denzel Brown said the Scouts have been pushing through the heat, with members giving it their all at rehearsals, getting better, performance after performance.

lucky for those that get to see Minnesota
While I do admit that the Scouts have a significantly better visual program than last year and I do see them moving up. You are making the argument that changes and enhancements to their program will keep them ahead of Spirit. This is the same argument that was made last year just to see Boston and BK pass them. You should also remember that other corps and not just Madison may have changes, improvements and a good amount of cleaning on the way too.

I was honestly already prepared to be let down by Crossmen again. But after seeing them on the fan network I was blown away. WHAT AN IMPROVEMENT!!! This is not the same corps I saw last year. Powerful and clean. I am so excited to see them live in San Antonio. Keeping my fingers crossed that we will see them back in the top twelve where they belong.

There is no "just fine" in mid July.
There seems to be a lot of post concerning Spirit beating Cavs but the real surprise to me was how Spirit closed the gap with Scouts. Spirit's show is very well designed and getting clean fast. Madison doesn't seem to be getting much cleaner especially the guard. Add to that the music arrangements seem very busy and cluttered. Robert Smith is an incredible arranger but I think he dropped the ball this year.

heard from a BD friend and the word monsoon was mentioned....
Can't BD "Chase the Clouds Away"... pun intended.
That really is a great stadium for Drum Corps.... wish finals would go back there someday.
I remember in 2004 we had delays for weather during semis... but it cleared up and was beautiful. I will be watching online tonight.

i bet you used your landline phone to call the number too...
Didn't we also to pay to get the scores back then?

Crown has a very demanding show but do not underestimate Cadets' level of demand (just ask the kids marching it).

You may be right. The fact that they seem so much cleaner this early in the season may be giving me the false impression that it is easier than past programs. They could be so good that it just seems less difficult.
